The Seahawks will still win the division in my opinion. They're always good for 5-6 wins at home, so if they can play close to .500 on the road the NFC West should be the Seahawks' to take.Originally Posted by keg411

I'm listening to the radio right now -- is it true that it is likely that the Giants/Jets are going to name their stadium after a Nazi company? If this is all true, I am going to have to find a new team.

http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/...-playoff-game/The more we learn about Vince Young, the less he seems like a guy any NFL team would want to count on as its starting quarterback.
Adam Schefter reported today on NFL Network’s NFL GameDay Morning that during last season’s AFC Wild Card game against San Diego, Young wanted to stop playing at halftime and had to be persuaded to take the field with his teammates in the second half.
Think about that. It was the biggest game of his professional career, and Young wanted to stop playing at halftime. That’s stunning for a guy who left Texas with a reputation as a big-game player.
Ultimately, Young did play the entire game, completing 16 of 29 passes for 138 yards, with no touchdowns and an interception. The Titans lost 17-6.
The Saints have given head coach Sean Payton a 5 year deal.

Some Charger fans received this email..
You can rest assured that nothing you say can make me feel worse than I already feel about my mistake on the fumble play. You have no idea. . . . And I have already personally apologized to Norv Turner. I so wish I could have fixed it, though.
Affecting the outcome of a game is a devastating feeling. Officials strive for perfection - I failed miserably. Although it does no good to say it, I am very, very sorry.
Ed Hochuli

I hope the Chargers don't lose the division or miss a playoff spot by one game.
It's nice he's sorry but the damage is already done.
Charger fans must be furious.
Hiya Pepper! Always nice to see you!Originally Posted by Pepper03

No one is even mentioning the "video replay malfunction" in the first quarter that set the tone for this game...
Ooh...poor Hochuli is getting a bad grade. Like that matters! It happened on San Diego's first possession, when Philip Rivers completed a short pass to Chris Chambers on second down. As Chambers hit the turf at the San Diego 29-yard line, cornerback Champ Bailey reached in and stripped the ball from him. Officials first ruled it an interception, saying Bailey was down at the 29.
It was a deflating moment for the Chargers, but it didn't look as if it would hold up to scrutiny. CBS replays clearly showed Chambers' elbow touching the ground before Bailey stripped the ball, meaning the receiver was down before Denver took possession.
After taking a look at the replay, announcers Dick Enberg and Randy Cross agreed the ball would be returned to the Chargers. But after a delay, Hochuli announced that the replay system wasn't working and the two-minute time limit for a review had expired, so the call on the field would stand. The Broncos scored a touchdown five plays later.
But it was the bookend bad call that people will remember.

New owner may be losing patience
By Dan Arkush
Sept. 19, 2008
Team sources tell us Rams head coach Scott Linehan’s job security is on increasingly shaky ground following the strong message that was delivered in no uncertain terms by Rams owner Chip Rosenbloom the day after the team’s 40-13 Week Two loss to the Giants in its disappointing home opener.
“The level of play is not acceptable to me or anybody in the organization,” Rosenbloom told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “Things will get better, and if they don’t, changes will be made.”
If the local media had their druthers, the changes would come soon and would be wide-ranging. Numerous critics are blaming longtime president/football operations/GM Jay Zygmunt as much, if not more so, for the current mess as Linehan, who, as hard as he has tried, has been unable to stop the bleeding that has turned the Rams' franchise into a leaguewide embarrassment, a situation that Rosenbloom is having a hard time tolerating.
“Chip is pretty fed up,” one longtime team insider said.
An in-season coaching change would be a dramatic departure for the Rams’ organization; the last time it happened was in 1962, when Bob Waterfield resigned eight games into the season after a 1-7 start.
It has been suggested by more than a few local critics that Linehan resign for his own good, as well as that of the franchise, but there are no indications that he is seriously considering abandoning ship.
But the possibility that he might get fired, perhaps soon, has become a different story altogether, with the team’s fractured fan base becoming increasingly disillusioned with the sorry product on the field.
If Rosenbloom were to pull the plug on Linehan, team sources believe the most likely interim options would be either offensive coordinator Al Saunders or defensive coordinator Jim Haslett.
But, as one source close to the scene put it, “That’s a very delicate situation, when you look at how poorly both the offensive and defensive units have performed.
“Haslett is probably better-suited, with (assistant head coach/linebackers) Rick Venturi capable of taking over the defense, but neither option seems real attractive right now.”

Coaches on Hot Seat: September
I see that look and I know what you're thinking. It's ridiculously early to tackle the topic of NFL coaches on the hot seat. We're only staring down Week 3 for crying out loud. Could we at least manage to put September behind us before we start speculating how many casualties there will be this season among the ranks of the headset crowd?
Short answer? Uh, no. Not when you've got Oakland's Lane Kiffin generating a media vigil at the Raiders team complex early this week, just to see if he makes it past Tuesday with his job intact. Not when you've got the Rams' Scott Linehan having a bit of a meltdown in his postgame news conference Sunday, then hear team owner Chip Rosenbloom on Monday put his head coach on notice and threaten changes if improvement is not forthcoming. Not when Cincinnati's Marvin Lewis seems to be grasping at more and more straws by the week in an effort to motivate his comatose Bengals, and not when Vikings owner Zygi Wilf feels it necessary to give Brad Childress that kiss of death known as a vote of confidence.
After having seven new head coaches hired in 2007, and just four in 2008 (with two teams, Miami and Atlanta, hiring both years), I get the feeling that in 2009 we're in for more of a 2006-type overhaul of the sideline set. That year, a whopping 10 different NFL clubs tapped new coaches, nearly one third of the league. And don't forget, it's already a given that Jim Mora is taking over for Mike Holmgren in Seattle next season, with Jim Caldwell likely to do the same for Tony Dungy in Indianapolis (just FYI, we do not consider the retirement-minded Holmgren or Dungy to be among the hot-seaters in any way, shape or form).
That said, I'm going to make my Coaches on the Hot Seat report a once-a-month, in-season staple here at SI.com, identifying the likely suspects as the season unfolds, with coaches either performing their way on or off of our endangered list. In subsequent installments, we'll even try to identify the pool of most likely candidates who will interview and wind up getting all these forthcoming NFL coaching vacancies.
For this first crack at it, we're starting with 10 names that bear watching, even though some of them have teams off to 2-0 starts. What? You think anything Wade Phillips does before January's playoffs means a thing to his long-term job security? You obviously haven't been paying attention. Which is why we're here to help.
2. Scott Linehan, St. Louis -- If Linehan's Rams haven't hit rock bottom by now, Lord knows no one wants to see what that train wreck might look like. Since starting his St. Louis tenure a surprising 4-1 in 2006, Linehan is 7-22 and in the throes of an all-out death spiral. After the Rams' 41-13 home-opening loss to the Giants on Sunday, Linehan finally started showing some sure-fire signs of job stress, losing it for a bit in his postgame news conference, at least by his nice-guy standards.
The 0-2 Rams are just horrible. They rank last in the NFL in total offense and total defense, and have been manhandled to the tune of 79-16 in their first two games. Their fan base is dwindling, empty seats are a regularity at Edward Jones Dome, and even a move back to the Los Angeles market doesn't seem out of the question. If that doesn't spell coaching change in the NFL, nothing will.
With Rosenbloom's ominous comments on Monday, it seems possible that the Rams could make an in-season coaching change for the first time since ex-Rams Hall of Fame quarterback Bob Waterfield turned in his whistle after eight games in 1962. But don't look at defensive coordinator Jim Haslett, the ex-Saints head coach, as a replacement. His unit has been dreadful, and I don't think the front office is crazy about him either. New/old Rams offensive coordinator Al Saunders is an interim possibility, at least given his wealth of NFL experience.
• Pink slip potential: 95 percent.
Al Harris has a torn spleen, will miss rest of the season:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3603042Jack Bechta said Harris will see a specialist this week, probably as early as Tuesday, after the initial diagnosis was a ruptured spleen, according to those reports. That visit will determine Harris' course of treatment, whether surgery is necessary and how long he'll be out.
"He tasted blood in his mouth and had some in his urine," Bechta told the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "When you have that it's not always connected to the spleen, although the CT scan did confirm there's a tear in the spleen. The next step is to look at everything again and take a conservative approach."
Also, it looks like the Brady Quinn era may be starting very soon if the Browns don't turn things around.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3602560Although Crennel didn't say Monday that he's handing the reins over to Quinn, the coaching staff plans to give Quinn more practice reps with the first team this week. It's the biggest indictment of Anderson to date following Sunday's 28-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in which Anderson had one of the worst performances of his career. He completed just 14 of 37 passes for 125 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions.
"We will definitely try to get the other guy [Quinn] ready and ready to go," Crennel said. "We'll see how it progresses from there. [It means] probably a few more reps in practice right now."

The Rams definitely have the look of a team that could do what Miami did last year, if not worse.

I think they've got maybe 3 games they might be able to win. The 2 games against the 49ers and the home game against the Dolphins. But it wouldn't surprise me if they went 0-16.Originally Posted by BonusCantos

On ESPNews: SI reporting Linehan will get bounced if the Rams lose today, which they almost certainly will.
I'm a Bills fan so I'm paranoid. I could see Bulger coming into the game after one series or something. I know he hasn't done well this year but Trent Green is really taking a risk playing. I also see them throwing everything but the kitchen sink at Buffalo in an attempt to win. Don't be surprised to see tons of gadget plays.Originally Posted by BonusCantos

The Rams have gotten outscored by a margin of 116-29 this season - with play that atrocious, I'm not even sure how they'll win one this year. Sure, anything can happen in any game, but this team is a legit contender for 0-16. The Bills would still do well not to take them lightly; like with Baltimore vs. the Dolphins last year, I'd hate to be the team that loses to them. As long as they execute, I don't think they have much to worry about.Originally Posted by TheManKnownAsMecca
