I dont know if there's even a word to describe how pathetic that is.

To call it "inconsistent" would be an insult to inconsistency.
The offense has been like this for the past few years. It's infuriating.
Matsui out, Posada playing at half speed and Damon out, what do we expect?
Giambi has been streaky, Cano still hasn't showed up yet and the Melky that played in earlier in the season is AWOL. On top of that, ARod and his drama with Jeter is showing signs of aging.
Did I miss anything?
It's an understatement saying that the Yankees have to have a second half offensive resurgence unlike any they've ever had, just to make the playoffs. Every cylinder must be firing in time for this to happen. Does Joe G have that sort of miracle under his sleeve? The upcoming schedule (late July- late August) will make or break the 2008 Yankees.
updating...
The hitters who ARE out there every day, not including the guys you mentioned, make about what, $75 or 80 million? That's more than a lot of team's entire payroll, so yeah, you'd expect better.Originally Posted by cupcollector99

Cano has a 174 OPS+ over the last 2 weeks. Let's hope that's him starting to show up and not just a SSS issue.Originally Posted by cupcollector99
I absolutely agree with your point that it's going to take a juggernaut 2nd half offense and a rotation with no Ponsons or others of that ilk to make the playoffs. This series against the Rays is big for us (and the Sox for that matter).

No doubt the offense has been unimpressive lately to say the least. However playing the role of optimist I do see some signs of life:
-Cano seems to be coming out of his slump
-Jeter is starting to hit again
-ARod is locked in right now
-Giambi is healthy and hitting
-Damon will be back after the break
-Matsui could be back and if not Bonds may enter the picture
-Competition between Gardner and Melky should only improve offense from CF.
Interesting Post All-Star Break numbers:
-Cano- Career .906 OPS after the ASB and a .335 Average
-Abreu- Career .920 OPS after the ASB (.918 in 07')
-Jeter- Career .860 OPS after the ASB
-Melky- Career .738 OPS (up from .695) after the ASB
-Posada- 1.061 OPS after the ASB in 2007- in his career has the exact same OPS for first half vs second half
-ARod- .971 career OPS after the ASB (only slightly higher than his first half splits though). In 2007 it was 1.058 after the ASB (only slightly down from an amazing first half of the year last year).
-Giambi- .951 career OPS after the ASB (slightly higher than his first half)
-Damon/Matsui- second half consistent with first (exactly the same OPS)
So everyone in our lineup statistically has performed as well or better in their careers after the all-star break.

That's umm, like, less than 2 runs per game.
Beautiful
Marge Simpson: The plant called and said if you don't
come in tomorrow, don't bother coming in Monday.
Homer Simpson: Woo hoo! A four-day weekend.
It has been painful to watch all of the baserunners be stranded.

Oh and one more bit of optimism to add to my previous post:
-We can't possibly hit worse with RISP in the second half
(knock on wood)
