    Bob Sheppard Returning Tomorrow Night?

Hey, I remember in a thread eariler that it said that Bob Sheppard was returning tomorrow night, July 1st. Im going to the game because its my birthday and hearing his voice would mean as much to me as a Yankee victory. So, has anyone heard any news or updates?

July 1 was his target date, but I hadn't heard anything new about that in quite some time. I would expect we'd all hear about it in advance, so I'd be surprised, but I'm going wednesday, so I hope you're right!

He needs to be at the All-Star Game. This must be like his spring training.

I that was the case, it would have been all over today's newspapers here in NY, and I haven't seen anything. I can hardly wait for him to get back to work at the Stadium.

That would be very good news, hopefully it's true, but I haven't heard anything.

I was on the stadium tour this weekend and the tour guide mentioned that they don't expect him back at all this season.

At his age, I'm not surprised. If he ever makes it back to the Stadium in any capacity, consider it gravy.

But I'm sure he'll be healthy enough to keep cashing those paychecks in the meantime.

Actually, I think he's close to 98. (He won't say, but all indications are that he was born in 1910...) God bless him.

I hope he manages to come back and do at least one more game before the old place comes down. Although I was listening tonight, the guy they have doing the PA now is sounding more and more like him. It's really uncanny.

Yeah, but he has a lot of trouble with the names. He's pretty old as well, they showed him once during a game, he looked at least 75 or 80. I was at the Sunday night game against the Mets, "Now batting for the Mets....Carlos Delgardo". He also called Marlon Anderson, Marion Anderson. My friend who is a Mets fan had a pretty good laugh at it.

Hopefully they get a new younger (compared to Sheppard and Hall, 50 or 60 would be young) P.A. announcer to open the new stadium.

I looked it up once with this special software we had at my old job (to track people down) and that was 2 years ago and I belive he was 96 at that time.

You're stalking a 90 something year old man? Now that's just plain creepy.

UPDATE ON BOB SHEPPARD: The Star-Ledger is reporting that Mr. Sheppard will not work the All-Star game. That is a shame.

Re: Bob Sheppard Returning Tomorrow Night?

It's too bad he couldn't make it just to announce the player introductions before the game.

I hope I'm wrong, but the man is 97 and I think it's a real possibility he won't return at all. I hope I'm wrong.

Exactly. He needs to be celebrated before it's too late. The man has been at the Stadium since '51. I think he needs an appreciation day this season.
