HM: Everyone who batted in that fourth inning (Jeter through Posada). Those were amazing at-bats, each one of them, against a pitcher who to that point looked completely unhittable.

A lot of votes for Cano ... I realize his RBI was the difference, but to me the "heroics" on offense all happened in the fourth inning. Jeter worked a tough walk, A-Rod came through with two strikes, Giambi looked overmatched but found a way to muscle one up the middle, and Posada was set up 1-2 and fould off a couple of tough pitches before delivering the sac fly. It was a clinic on how to hang in against a dominant pitcher.

"We understand that John Henry must be embarrassed, frustrated and disappointed by his failure in this transaction. Unlike the Yankees, he chose not to go the extra distance for his fans in Boston."

Honorable Mention - Melky. If Melky doesn't get on his horse and catch Wright's shot in the second inning (?), it's a completely different game, IMO.
22 years old...Andy is where its at for me. The HGH thing annoyed me but I'll never lose that love I have for him.Originally Posted by sweet_lou_14

Cool. Yeah, Andy's one of the special ones. Had he never left, I think there's a damn good chance we'd still be chanting 1918.Originally Posted by b_joseph

You're absolutely correct. If it wasn't for Melky's great catch, who knows what would have happened.Originally Posted by The Q Bomb

Great job Pettitte! And, Mo is unreal. NOBODY will ever be close to what he is (and hopefully continues to do for a couple more years).Originally Posted by Brick Tamland

Yeah. Wow. I can't believe I let that catch by Melky slip by. I've been so concerned with his lack of decent AB's lately that I forgot to remember how golden he is in CF.

No caps, but I'll award a second Team Hero collectively to everyone on the offensive side who worked a walk, advanced a runner, or got a run in with an out. (All three of the Yankee runs started out as Johan Santana walks; two of them scored on, respectively, a Giambi groundout and a Posada sac fly.)
And naturally also to Robbie Cano for a genuine RBI single!

Nice pictures.

Petitte.
You gotta give the credit to Jorge for that pickoff of Jose. He's the one that nailed Jose on that by calling on Petitte to attempt the pickoff.
