I took my two dogs for an hour long walk and with the temperature being 82 degrees. The older dog (which isn't in the best of shape) had trouble making it home and I had to stop at a gas station and a Burger King in order to get them water. The older one, Jensen, was panting like I had never seen before and I was afraid she was going to have a heart attack since she is out of shape and going on 9 years old. So as I neared my way home there were a huge set of stairs I had to climb with the dogs. The younger one, which was fine to walk the rest of the way wouldn't cooperate going up the stairs so I had to pick him up and take him to the top. Meanwhile, Jensen is trying to climb the stairs as she's panting her ass off. I had to run back down and grab her and bring her to the top. After that, I noticed her tounge was starting to turn a purplish-blue colour and I started getting extremely worried. We made it to the next street over which was about 2 mins from my house and I had to ask someone outside if they could be kind enough to bring out some water for them since I was afraid I wouldn't make it home with them. So, they did and they were really nice about it and even held onto them while I ran home and got my car to bring over and rescue them home.
I learned a valuable lesson today in how far you should take an out of shape dog in hot summer weather and almost lost one of my dogs because of it.
I don't know if anyone else has ever had an experience like this. I hope not because it was definitely one of the scariest things that has ever happened to me.
Right now, she is still panting really bad but it's getting better and I have a huge bowl of water for her.... I just hope she is fine tonight because I really put a number on her.

I hope you're staying home tonight so you can keep an eye on her.
