Royals taking Esposito is a very nice pick for the 7th rd.

With teams like the Royals and Pirates taking players that would seem to be difficult signs requiring way over slot money, do you think MLB has a new way to stop the Yankees, Boston, Detroit, et al from skirting the system?

If these teams select these players before the over-spenders can...mission accomplished.

Yeah and if these small market teams start spending over-slot, mission destroyed.

Big name and talent, but severe lack of performance to compliment it. I'm not at all mad that they didn't take him in the first 6 rounds.

Do a search for my screen name and "Thames."

There are many posts from last year where I'm ranting about the silly difference in money that he wanted. They could have had him for another 100K or so last year. He was into signing with them, too. I was pissed.

    Re: 2008 Draft Thread - Day 2

perfect game has this to say

Kyle Higashioka is a 2008 C with a 6'1'', 190 lb. frame from Huntington Beach, CA who attends Edison HS. Strong, mature build. Very aggressive hitter, power potential, simple approach, swing can get long at times, dangerous hitter with ceiling. High energy catcher, quick release, quick feet. Plays very hard, has fun. Top level tools. Excellent student.
And I can see he's signed a letter of intent to go to cal-berkeley
