he should be ready to pitch at the end of the season when he will be a free agent and get a 10 year contract.

It would be beyond insane, and unbelievably ironic, if the one guy NO ONE has ever

counted on during his time weezing the Yankees would come back and " Save our

season " so to speak. Imagine if he was to pull off an Aaron Small-esque type run?

    Id LMFAO guys ...

He's going to not come back this year, sign with the Red Sox for like 8 dollars and win the Cy Young going 35-0 with an ERA of 0.00

Not really. He had an alright game against the weak hitting Twins, although he only got 2 K's. And he had a bad game against the DRays. The thing about Pavano is that even when he is healthy, he's not that good.

Disagree, he is good but too lazy and needs too much external motivation to get going. He has a little good but too much of a head case.

Re: The Savior [Pavano - Mod] is coming....

I expect absolutely zero from this guy this year but it really would be funny if he did pitch and win a big game for us this year. Most likely he'll trip on the chalk line durring a MiLB rebab start and break a nail causing him to miss two more weeks then slip on a bar of soap wrenching his knee causing him to miss the rest of the season.

Re: The Savior [Pavano - Mod] is coming....

If Pavano wants to help the Yanks, he wont pick up a baseball in 08. This guy is going to help the Yanks in 08.

As the Yankees search within the organization for pitching help following the early-season struggles of Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy, they might look no further than the Trenton Thunder’s Daniel McCutchen.

Unlike Hughes, McCutchen is no kid. The 6-2, 195-pound right-hander is two years removed from the University of Oklahoma and will be 26 in September. He made his pro debut with the Staten Island Yankees in 2006, opening the season here and making two starts before being promoted to Charleston.

Unlike Kennedy, he doesn’t nibble. He goes right after hitters, and has 43 strikeouts in 46 innings this season to prove it.

But is he ready for the big leagues?

Trenton manager Tony Franklin says McCutchen can definitely pitch at a higher level. Tino Martinez, a special assistant for the Yankees, says he could skip Triple A and get big-league hitters out right now.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman is intrigued, but not yet ready to say he’s the organization’s next Joba Chamberlain.

“It’s too early to say that. But he’s certainly throwing very well at Double A right now,” Cashman said. “He opened our eyes in the spring, too. He works fast; he’s got some power stuff that goes with it. He’s got a great mentality. All he’s done is win since he’s been in the pros.”

Though he’s been primarily a starter since his senior year at Oklahoma, the Yankees are already confident McCutchen can help them in the bullpen. But then again, the Yankees crave starters.

No matter how he is used, Franklin is confident McCutchen will succeed as much because of his talent as his steely makeup.

“I played with Joaquin Andujar for four years in the minors, and people said he was a nut,” Franklin said. “But he was quite the competitor. If you beat him, then you beat a pretty good pitcher. I get the same sense from Cutch. He never backs off, and his stuff is certainly good enough to pitch at a higher level.”

Sounds intriguing. I don't know if Daniel McCutchen will ever succeed like Joaquin Andojar but one is certain: the name, Daniel McCutchen, will never be as cool as as the name, Jaoquin Andojar, which has to rank as one of the great baseball names of all-time.

So another minor leaguer being hyped up by the orginization who hasnt even thrown at AAA yet. The yankees learned a lot from their development of Hughes and Kennedy it seems. And by the way the last time we had a guy go straight from AA to the bigs was Sean Henn.

They do have a lot of pitching prospects at all the levels, if you throw enough of them out there some have to work. Take it for what its worth, Bill Madden was talking about this guy in ST saying he can throw like Joba.

Im not doubting the kid has good stuff I'll take your word from that post. I just dont want to see anymore prospects rushed through the minors like Hughes and Kennedy were to end up like they did this year.

True, if they arent ready its pointless to bring them up to the big club.

Exactly. I'm not a big fan of Carl's, but he is already on the Yankee payroll, if he has the potential to contribute to this year's pitching starved team in either a starting or bullpen role, I welcome his contribution.

If he comes back and pulls an Aaron Small, or better yet if he pulls off a St. Louis Cardinals Jeff Weaver-postseason type of thing then we'd totally cash in. I'd hope he's crossing his fingers. Just not on his pitching hand, because he might hurt them somehow.

The AP also reported that right-hander Carl Pavano -- rehabbing from Tommy John elbow reconstruction surgery -- threw 40 pitches off a half mound on Friday and could work off a bullpen mound next week. Pavano is considered an outside possibility to make it back to the big leagues this season.

didn't this bozo have surgey in May last year? and isn't the rehab time typically 13 months? I know he is a long shot but jeez for the $40M the Yanks have shelled out to this clown you think he'd be bustin' his ass in rehab to get back, especially since if he can make a few good starts some other bone headed GM will probably given him a bunch more money next year.
