The 2008 NFL Draft Discussion Thread

Approaching 14 hours until it starts.

I'll be up at 6 AM Pacific time raring to go and it should be a great day, always one of my favorite days of the year.

Re: The 2008 NFL Draft Discussion Thread

First time in a while I don't have one specific player that I want the Jets to draft. But at least I won't be disappointed, which usually happens with them.

I'm really hope they get McFadden. The Queens ties the franchise has from their days at Shea Stadium connects perfectly to the original Run DMC (from Hollis, Queens). Pairing that with the new Run DMc (wearing #23 or 32) is a public relations bonanza waiting to happen.

I can see the Nike/Reebok/Under Armor commercial now...

Re: The 2008 NFL Draft Discussion Thread

My roommates and I were absolute draft geeks and got the brilliant idea (in the middle of a long night of drinking) that no one could go to bed until his team selected. The fan of the then-defending champion Cowboys had a REALLY difficult night, morning and afternoon.

In addition, the NFL Draft is the only occasion I have used to call in sick to work when I or a family member wasn't truly sick.
Don't tease me, you know what I do for a living.

    And it's here.

I am hoping that the Giants can pick up a good defensive player at 31; and right now I am probably hoping for Kenny Phillips most of all.

Apparently one of the rumors making the rounds is New England trading up to #5 to get Gholston before the Jets can.

I hate that it's at 3 PM now. And I have to leave for an early dinner at like 5:30 so I won't even get to see the whole first round.

Yeah, why did the NFL push back the time? West Coast ratings?

Im really not sure. They have dramatically shortned how long the first day will take though, so the coverage will probably end at the same time as well (today will only have the first 2 rounds instead of the typical 3, you get 10 minutes to pick in the first instead of the typical 15 and 7 minutes in the second instead of the typical 10).

So the possibilities assuming there are no trades probably are:

    3. Atlanta- Matt Ryan or Glenn Dorsey
    4. Oakland- Glenn Dorsey, Darren McFadden or Vernon Gholston
    5. Kansas City- Gholston, Branden Albert or Matt Ryan
    6. Jets- Matt Ryan, Gholston or McFadden

    My guess is:

    3. Dorsey
    4. Gholston
    5. Albert
    6. McFadden
    7. Ellis
    8. Ryan
    9. Rivers
    10. Rodgers-Cromartie

I can't believe the Dolphins are taking an offensive lineman with the #1 overall pick. I mean normally I could believe it, but Tuna had my expectations up this year. I have to believe a Jason Taylor trade is in the works.

I don't think anyone would give up a low first rounder or a high second rounder for Jason Taylor, who is 34 years old now.

I just posted this in the Jets thread, but I'm REALLLLY hoping the Jets get McFadden (Run DMc) just so that we can start calling Thomas Jones "Jam Master Jay".

ESPN is reporting that their sources are saying Atlanta will take Ryan at 3 and Oakland will take McFadden at 4.

However, if Dorsey is still on the board I wouldn't be surprised if Oakland took him and they could be bluffing to ESPN trying to make a trade happen.

Probably that, plus the fact that by starting it at 3 a lot more of the first round will be in prime time (and earlier picks).

Wow, it sounds like Baltimore is putting a huge offer together to try and move up to #2 in the draft, which would comletely shake up the first 8 picks.

They'd be stupid not to. It would certainly make a better statement of returning to the past than hiring Art Shell to coach.
How comfortable Chris would be playing in his Dad's shadow is a different story...

Interesting thought from Werder about Dallas trading the 28 to Arizona for Anquan Boldin. It's a win-win. Dallas obviously gets one of the 10 best receivers in The League, and Arizona gets some ammo to try and move up and make a run at Run DMc -- that would be an excellent tandem with Edge.

Nothing quite beats today for me -- I just got back from BC's spring football game to see the NFL Draft on TV.

Now they're saying Matt Ryan to Atlanta. I wouldn't wish that on anyone, let alone our star player.

Here's hoping the Raiders do the right thing for their franchise and take Dorsey so that Run DMc & Jam Master Jay will do 8 shows in North Jersey.
