This just cracked me up. I've got Placido Polanco on one of my fantasy teams. I'm reading a "News & Notes" item on him and this is what I find:

    http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/...8lDrIZg1WFCLcF

Jul 27 Manager Charlie Manuel said he will likely stick with Polanco as his starting second baseman for now, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Recommendation: Putting Polanco at second base allows Manuel to start Greg Dobbs or Cody Ransom at third base in an effort to get more offense into the Phillies lineup.
Is that what it's come to in Philadelphia; they're playing Cody Ransom to get more offense? Priceless.

A guy in my fantasy league, a Phillies fan no less, actually just picked up Cody Ransom for his roster. I felt like grabbing a drink from the kitchen for the sole purpose of spitting that beverage out in disbelief.

Did nothing for that guy in my fantasy league since he left him on the bench. Shameful.

    What's the point?
    from roto:

Pirates claimed RHP Chan Ho Park off waivers from the Yankees.
Park is expected to meet up with the Pirates on Friday...The last-place Bucs are likely to use him in long relief and mop-up duty.
I heard this today...Did Coltrane actually exist? This is like being blind for 50 years, regaining sight, and then peering directly at the sun.

Phillies Designate Cody Ransom For Assignment

By Ben Nicholson-Smith [August 5 at 12:21pm CST]

The Phillies designated Cody Ransom for assignment, according to the MLB.com transactions page. The Phillies, who acquired Mike Sweeney from the Mariners yesterday, no longer had room for the 34-year-old Ransom on their roster.

The utility man can play all four infield positions, but hasn't hit much in his MLB career. In 346 plate appearances picked up over the course of eight seasons, Ransom has a .227/.311/.391 line. He has a little power and did hit two homers for the Phillies this year, but didn't do much more than that in his 46 trips to the plate.

Ransom has also suited up for the Giants, Astros and, the club who designated him for assignment last year: the Yankees.

Apparently Wade Boggs is doing supermarket openings now: http://www2.tbo.com/content/2010/aug...mpa-palms-sto/
NEW TAMPA - Baseball Hall of Famer Wade Boggs cut the ribbon today that launched Publix's new 20-year commitment to the Tampa Palms community.
The Lakeland-based supermarket chain opened its newly rebuilt store at 16041 Tampa Palms Blvd. West at 8 a.m., drawing more than 600 patrons in less than an hour.
"We were marking down the days on the calendar," said Boggs, a Tampa Palms resident.

"You feel like (the fans) have your back," said Melancon, whose career record improved to 1-1 with the win in Tuesday's 4-3 victory over the Mets. "It's nice to pitch in that circumstance."
Must be nice to be in a situation where nobody cares if you suck because you're not going to make the playoffs anyway.

    Glad you found happiness.

CMW will not pitch this season. Looks like it was pretty smart not signing him, even though I was sad to see him go.
