So much for the big comeback...Stanton, Bako out; Hill in
By Gordon Wittenmyer on March 30, 2009 12:11 PM
One day after settling the closer job, the Cubs ended the final position-player battle in camp, making Koyie Hill the backup catcher and cutting veteran catcher Paul Bako, as well as former Yankee reliever Mike Stanton.
Neither veteran player had a bad spring. Bako hit .364 this spring, including a 5-for-5 streak at one point. But Hill had the inside track as a trusted backup already in the organization, and his spring was as good as Bako's -- actually hitting .381 through Sunday with a homer and four doubles.
Stanton was a longshot to make the roster from the start after missing all of last year. He had a 6.48 ERA in 10 appearances this spring -- most of the damage in 2 or 3 of the appearances.

Apparently Sidney was liked by the Yankees as a teammate. I think hes a bad pitcher but I dont have anything personally against him.

The Dodgers put Doug Mientkiewicz on the disabled list.
I didn't realize Willie Randolph was hired as the Brewers manager. sucks for him.
"First batter up well here's the pitch: it's a curve. Second batter up because the first got served"

Oakland promoted Dan Giese. They sent LHP Jerry Blevins (4 earned runs allowed in 2/3 of an inning for a 54.00 ERA) to Triple-A Sacarmento.
Ohlendorf pitching another gem tonight for Pit. That trade already looks bad. Through 6:

The Yankees would have been pretty ballsy to give him a crack at the rotation after how poorly he pitched out of the pen. He wouldn't have had time to establish himself.

Tanyon Sturtze, free agent reliever: Sturtze got his release from the Dodgers May 1, and now the Worcester native is contemplating his future, which could include retirement. Sturtze, who served as a de facto coach for the Dodgers last season while he was recovering from an injury, said he's spending time with his kids and looking at his options.
Do we have to consider him a former Yankee? To me, it's like the whole thing never really happened for some reason.Originally Posted by Micky Rivers's Bat

Have you ever noticed that he actually comes out and pitch once his Yankee contract was finished? Makes me wonder if he wasn't just faking it the whole time, since his deal went just shy of $40 mil.Originally Posted by mexicanyank

I could have bet money he would be pretty good this year. He has been our curse. Beating us in the World Series when he was with the Marlins and sucking us to death while he was with our team. Now all of a sudden he is good again. I hope we kick the crap out of him today.

Kyle Farnsworth has thrown 15 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings. His last earned run allowed was on April 19th. He has 19 Ks to 4 BBs on the year.
Bring this man back to the Bronx!![]()
Ohlendorf gave up 12 baserunners in 4 1/3 innings. He now has a 4.85 ERA in the NL Central (5.24 if you go back to last year). The Mets also somehow lost the game against the Pirates.
Just sticking it to everybody who was chastising the Yankees for trading away Ohlendorf after he was okay in like 4 starts to begin the year.
He threw 95 as a reliever, but it was flat, and his secondary pitches were inconsistent and terrible. He throws 90 as a starter, and his secondary stuff isn't much better. The last time he's performed even moderately well in any capacity was 2006 in AA.
