Yankees Have Already Sold 3.8 Million Tickets For 2008

    http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2008/03/2...-and-counting/

The Yankees announced today they have exceeded 3.8 million tickets sold for the 2008 season, marking the earliest the club has ever reached that level. With one week until Opening Day, the current tally is 400,000 tickets ahead of the Yankees’ total on the same date last year.

“Even with historic advance sales, tickets remain available for most games,” said Yankees Chief Operating Officer Lonn Trost. “I encourage fans to join us at Yankee Stadium throughout 2008 to celebrate the 84th and final season of Baseball at The House That Ruth Built.”

For the past three seasons (2005-07), the Yankees have reached the 4 million mark in home attendance, joining the Toronto Blue Jays (1991-93) as the only other Major League team to accomplish the feat in three consecutive years. The Yankees have also seen their home attendance increase in each of the last seven seasons (2001-07).

I hope they sell out every game, but I'd think a couple of April weekday games will only get 45-50k.

I dont understand what the big deal is. Why are people going to baseball games all of the sudden? Something special going on this year?

Only 45-50k? That only 45k is still more than every other team in baseball.

I know, I meant the "only" relative to a sellout.

I feel like that is a meaningless figure these days. So many of these tickets are purchased by speculators and scalpers. There's no way that all 3.8 get used.

Last Thursday, the Yankees released additional tickets to the $5 games. I got to the stadium a half hour after seeing the availability on ticketmaster. Everything was gone. The employee at the ticket window said one guy came by and bought every $5 ticket that was released.

The Yankees should stop helping these scalpers by making such announcements.

I guess people want to get as many games in in the old Stadium as they can. Nostalgia is a powerful thing.

There might only be 45-50 K in ATTENDANCE, but my bet is that the games will be sellouts.

    90% ? That seems a little high.

I would guess maybe 20 to 30 percent, as there is no more than 10% of each games tickets on stubhub and eBay for April games, so following that with Ticket transactions already completed, leads me to believe the number is much lower than you estimate.

wow, the yankees are going to make a sh*tload of money this year. and probably share a sh*tload in revenue to the likes of the devil rays.

i hope they sell as much in 2009, but OTOH this means that there's no way the ticket prices will come down.
