There are rumors about them getting Lee. I hope that doesn't happen. They could be scary in the playoffs if that happened. I wouldn't want to face them.

Lee/Lariono in the first 2 games of a short series=dangerous.

I'm chickening out here but give me the WC if I'm the Yankees.

Those of you still going crazy over Liriano aren't really following him closely. His April was stellar but his May was the exact opposite. He looks more April-like this June, but the full story of the season tells of inconsistency.

Also, if they get Lee, they kind of have a rotation jam. The Twins really like their homegrown young starters.

Even with that "bad May" his ERA is under 3 and he's striking out more than 9 per 9 innings. FWIW I think he might have the best FIP in the AL, too. He's rather scary.

My issue with FIP here is that he gives up legit hits, so taking them out of the equation isn't really fair.

I agree that he's scary. Rather, he CAN be scary. And he'll be a beast as soon as he gets into a consistent groove.

Aha. I don't watch every one of his starts but I'd agree with your reservations about FIP/BABIP/whatever. He's pretty beastly, I'd just hope to catch him when he's in an off-groove, though the Yankees have won both games against the Twins that he started IIRC. He hardly got beat up, though.

I didn't see a string of US Open updates from this past weekend by him. I think either he's slipping or he has been spending too much time with the world cup.

Look at his post counts is stunning.

World Cup Thread has 2,700 posts, BB has 1,400

The MMA thread has 3,100 posts, BB has 1,830

The English Club Football thread has 2,450 posts, BB has 1,425

The European Club Football thread has 2,121 posts, BB has 1,630

And this doesn't include the Survivor or Big Brother threads. Does anyone know why he posts in such large quantities?

He had one post which he made as a goal was being scored. Or he edited it to reflect as such.

    It was awkward.

Bambino22 caught him plagiarizing a few months back. The best part was when he got called out for it, he ignored it and edited his posts (despite the fact they had already been quoted) so he didn't plagiarize.

The Twins have offered outfielder Aaron Hicks and catcher Wilson Ramos for Lee, a major league source told Jeff Fletcher of AOL Fanhouse (via Twitter).

For real. Plus, I don't think we have another series with the Twins this year.

Matt Capps from Washington to Minny in exchange for Wilson Ramos. Capps will be the new closer, moving Rauch to a set-up role.

However, since those rankings occurred, baseball has been played, and Ramos’ value has diminished. He hasn’t hit at all in Triple-A this year, as more advanced pitchers are taking advantage of his aggressive approach. He also hasn’t shown much in the way of power, as only 19 of his 67 hits have gone for extra bases.
If BA were to do re-do their Top 100 today, I guarantee you that Ramos wouldn’t rank #58. I’m guessing that he wouldn’t even be in the Top 100. He’s has a bad year, and the things that were questions about him last year are problems this year, giving teams reasons to think that his bat might not be enough to make him more than a defensive-minded backup. So, his pre-season ranking does not really reflect his value at the moment. Things have changed.
I guess time will tell if they sold too low.

I'm pissed at the bullpen throwing away two solid starting pitching performances in a row. Thank god the offense recovered, but come on.

    Re: The Minnesota Twins Thread

Yesterday Kevin Slowey pitched 7 no-hit innings, but was pulled (and rightfully so) because it was his first start back after skipping one, and his pitch count was getting up there. Certainly was a positive outing for him, but I really don't expect consistency from here on out.

Also, don't look now but Mauer has built his BA way up to a nice .331 for third in the AL. Dude is .437/.504/.660 since the ASB. That is nasty.

    Alert! Alert!

Joe Mauer just homered at Target Field for the first time this season!

(It was also his 3rd hit of the night.)

Imagine where he'd be if he didn't go into a slump (at least, for him) during the first half.

They're six up on the ChiSox and have the third best record in baseball (1.5 behind the Rays). Where did THAT come from?

Second hottest team in baseball right now behind the Rockies.

Unlike the Rockies, they're a paper tiger IMO. Four and out in the ALDS, book it.

Now that's not fair to say. Get any team on a hot streak during a short series and who knows what could happen.

True, but having to play every game down to the wire took it's toll come playoff time. Plus no Morneau, having to start Duensing in Game 1 and Nathan hurting (which lead to his TJ in the spring) didn't help.

This year they have Liriano, Pavano as a solid 2 (who the hell ever thought you could say that) and a pretty deep lineup and this team is a hell of alot better then last season. The BP is questionable, but this is a much better team then 2009. The 2009 team have to win like 17/20 just to get to 88 wins.

Sure, but those teams usually have the arms to hold up a lead if they get one.

The Twins pen is going to get demolished come playoff time IMO. Unless they put up a ton of runs on the board each game, I don't see them sticking around for very long against the Yankees or the Rays.

I recently heard a stat about the Twins pen, and apparently it's one of the best in the AL. Although no, I don't trust Matt Capps in tight spots.
