Watch this space for a pithy new signature, now under construction!
Thanks, YASS. Where do I start with Pence? I love him.
I hope Hunter Pence does really well because I drafted him in my fantasy baseball league.
Well, he hasn't slowed down much from last seasons tare. I believe he's hitting .352 this spring training already and would fully expect another .300 season from him this year. It will be good to see him start and play a full season this year.
This will be a good thread for me seeing as I drafted pretty much the entire team in my fantasy league.
In before the lock!![]()
Why would a thread for the Astros be locked?Originally Posted by gdn

I get to see a lot of Astros baseball around here. This will be a good thread for me seeing as I drafted pretty much the entire team in my fantasy league.
What about Hunter Pence? Shouldn't he be starting over Bourn in center? I believe Pence is your future, your life-time astro, so let him play in his natural position... move Bourn to right.
Looks like I may be alone in this thread all season![]()

True, and the Yankees have absolutely nothing to do with the Astros. The Yankees have a interleague series in Houston this year so maybe I'll get some conversation then. I'll try to make it down to Minute Maid then and take some pictures for you guys.
There should be many entertaining nights of the Shawn Chacon rope walk this year.
FOR TAIWAN!

Sorry.. I'm referring to the member "SS"
I'll be there, field level on Saturday and Sunday! Can't wait to check out the park, but mostly can't wait to see my boys again.Originally Posted by johnmvp
You haven't been to Minute Maid yet? It's a beautiful ball park. It gets pretty hot down the 1st base line when the stadium isn't closed but other than that it's a blast.
So is it decided that Ausmus will be the backup or will he start over Towles in April?Originally Posted by johnmvp

Back up. In signing his contract he actually agreed to be the 'sunday catcher' and tutor JR Towles.
I signed JR on my fantasy team just because he could put up unknown numbers with no one knowing about him.
Woody Williams has been released by the Houston Astros and is due to retire. Best wishes, Woody. You had a great career.
Are their any Houston fans here? I'm thinking about starting up an Astros fan page similar to NYYFans (set up, performance threads, etc.) and curious if anybody would like to start this project with me?
New faces, same result. Astros score one run in 18 innings. Needless to say, they are 0-2.
Tejada hit a walk off. Astros must be happy considering Everett would have hit into a double play or struck out.
Another scary season for the Houston Astros

LHP Wandy Rodriguez has been placed on the DL by Houston.
Anybody see the absolute tare Berkman is on right now? This current streak is just insane that he's on. Here's some crazy stats for you.
According to Trent McCotter of the Society For American Baseball Research (SABR), Berkman is one of only 2 players in the last 50 years to have 19 hits in 25 at-bats. Albert Pujols did the same from May 30-June 7, 2003.
Berkman is also just the 4th player since 1957 with 16 hits in 20 at-bats.
He also set an Astros franchise record with 18 hits over a 5-game span. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the previous record was 17, accomplished by Derek Bell in August 1999 and Julio Lugo in September 2000.
Hi John. I just found this thread and I'm glad I have a place to talk about the Astros.
God, what a weekend! Sweeping the Joe Torre Dodgers was terrific. But to have Hunter break up the No hitter to complete the sweep was perfect.
I was against the Tejada trade but it looks like he's lit a fire under these guys. All they need is at least 1 top flight starter to have a chance at post-season.
BBTN showed their hind side again this weekend. They had Olney and Eduardo pick their "hot bat" for the guy they'd want at the plate "right now" on, I think it was, Saturday's night episode of BBTN. Olney went with Chipper, Perez with Utley. Good picks, but that was week old (or older) news, IMO. Berkman should have garnered a vote, he's been incredible lately.Originally Posted by johnmvp

.382/.463/.772, 12 HR, 36 RBI, 6 SB, 24.6 BtRns, 35.1 VORP, .396 EqA
He's even doing it on the basepaths. Insane numbers at 1/4 way through the season. Unsustainable, but insane nonetheless.
I'd say it's a little to early to be chanting M-V-P yet but I sure do love the thought of it. Scaring thing is he could go in a slump next week and be down under .300 in no time.. knock on wood. I hope he gets MVP, he deserves it..he's had a great career and gets little credit because he's on the Astros. If he was on a high end market like the Yankees who knows how big his name would be right now.. we might be laughing saying "we'd never get Berkman on our team" just like we laugh about A-Rod playing the hot corner in Minute Maid.
My favorite part of Berkman is his power from both sides of the plate.. it's amazing. He blasts a opposite field bomb left handed then turns around and hits one up on the tracks right handed, you have to love that as a baseball fan. I love watching his tare and it's something we Astros fans will got to see we had the chance to witness. Keep it hot, Berkman!
Roy Oswalt has not been impressive at all this year.
No he hasn't and he's picked the wrong year to start out ................ty..this is the first time he's had a good offense behind him.
Berkman with another 3 hit day..amazing. What's more amazing is Ausmus actually had two hits.
Oswalt in his last four starts is 4-0 with a 0.27 era. Wish we would have acquired him.
Country boy maybe, but calling him a "hick" might be a bit harsh and inconsiderate.

I know people in Brookyn, New York who are looking forward to buying construction equipment, including bulldozers. Do you consider them hicks too?Originally Posted by Yankeeah

Have you see Oswalt's pay check lately? I'm sure the tractor if you make a World Series in his contract was more of a joke than anything else.
You have to wonder if post-poning these two games over the weekend, will hurt the Astros momentum.
they are a good team right now
"Bonsoir, elle est partie!" French for "So long, she's gone!"
Rodger Brulotte
I'd say it won't. It actually gives Oswalt two days rest and now he can be moved up in the rotation to be pitched earlier.
Damn right. Now we won't have to pitch four and five man in the rotation.
Heh, I can't believe the Astros have a better record than us...I would love to see them snatch the wild card though.
If I was an Astros fan, I'd be so pissed right now.

Me too -- especially now seeing how it turned out..Originally Posted by RYMASTER or Ryan_Yankees
I'm not sure they had a lot of options...Atlanta was an option but was iffy to get hit with a storm that weekend too..last thing you want to do is move the games and get rained out elsewhere...
I heard on XM yesterday that the Astros owner wanted the Cubs to fly in before the storm, and then wait through the storm in a hotel on Saturday and then play two games on Sunday...the Cubs (and most people) thought that was a bit nuts...some of the blame of this two game debacle is being pointed toward the Astros owner who had them wait to fly out until Sunday for the game on Sunday...
The Astros players were pretty angry and I can't say I blame them...you would think there would have been some other solution than this one...
Instead of playing in Wrigley South, why didn't they fly down after the storm and play in Round Rock? Round Rock Express have a stadium named Dell Diamond that's just a nice as any major league field and it's only two and half hours from Houston. I was in Austin from Tuesday until Sunday night and we didn't get any rain or harsh wind. Cubs win.
Not a bad idea. However, I believe that would require the approval of the players' union since it isn't a ML parkOriginally Posted by Astroholic
Something like that isn't completely unprecidented. The A's started the 1996 home season at the sub-par Cashman Field because of the construction of Mount Davis.Originally Posted by Astroholic
If they were looking for a neutral site with a guarantee of no rain outs, Tropicana Field was vacant this weekend, as was Safeco. Milwaukee was just not a fair choice.
