Big Brother is watching all of us.

LMAO @ this reasoning by Callis...
Mike R. (San Juan, PR): Why doesn't Jesus Montero get more love?
SportsNation Jim Callis: (2:49 PM ET ) He gets love. But you have to remember he's still very young, still hasn't played above complex ball and still hasn't proven he's a catcher.
Since when did being young, not playing above rookie ball stop BA from giving enormous love to players? As far as Montero staying at catcher, it's also hardly a given that a guy like Oscar Tejada stays at SS, or Villalona at 3B, which since he's moved to 1B! Pathetic, Callis.
32 - Cito Culver, SS, New York HS
82- Angelo Gumbs, CF, California HS
112- Rob Segedin, 3B, Tulane
145- Mason Williams, OF, Florida HS
175- Thomas Kahnle, RHP, Lynn University
That exchange does raise an interesting question, though: If Montero can't stick at catcher (and, rightly or wrongly, this is the conventional wisdom on him), where does he go? Where else do you see him playing? 3B? 1B? LF?Originally Posted by albo4lyfe

I'd see him at 1B. If him & Romine play to their capabilities, I'd be fine with Montero manning first while Romine is behind the plate.Originally Posted by YASS

1B/DH for Montero in the future . BTW Callis just sucks so much . I can't believe he gets a salary for the verbal diarrhea he spits outOriginally Posted by NY_GOLDENARMS

Montero's stance is kinda weird. If he's in the majors 10 years from now, you guys think he has the same stance?
Yes. Broken left foot, the foot is in a boot, not a cast. Expected to be out 4 to 6 weeks. Evidently, coming off the mound right where the mound dirt goes to grass, an awkward step/or landing of his left foot.Originally Posted by indianyanksfan

It would be and I still hope he can stay at catcher. I just can't think of many catchers that became anything but barely adequate at converting to 1st base.Originally Posted by BennyTheJetRodriguez

Probably 1B. However, they showered Villalona with nothing but praise and it was a huge question whether or not he would remain at 3B. On the other hand, they don't really talk about Montero when talking about top, young spects. Montero at least has good athleticism to possibly remain at C, Villalona was just a fat kid and it didn't take long to move him to 1B.Originally Posted by YASS

Jeter will sign with Tampa for 2011 as the Yankees with have no room for him imho.
Tampa won't be able to afford him.Originally Posted by dan66

Where'd you get that from? A-Rod isn't the greatest defender at 3B but he's very capable.Originally Posted by boday

Defense
Lost in the monstrous season by Rodriguez offensively was the fact that he played much better defense as well. He ended the season a smidgen above average by zone rating, but he was actually pretty solidly above average most of the season. On July 23 Rodriguez's zone rating was .821 compared to the AL average of .765 and he had made around 14 plays more than an average AL 3B, which was roughly equivalent to saving 11 runs above average to that point and 19 runs over 162 games. Over the remaining 57 games Rodriguez's zone rating was only .669 and he made somewhere around 11 plays fewer than average. To my eyes he didn't seem to play any worse in the second half although he made 7 errors over 130 chances as opposed to 6 errors over his first 240 chances, so he may have just faced harder opportunities. Still, overall it was a nice rebound after a couple of pretty bad defensive seasons.

I was shocked as well, Ensberg is better defensively then A Rod.

Oh wait.....forgot. It's Callis.
(I do think he knows what he's talking about, but he's rather bad at removing the sox colored glasses when discussing Boston's farm system)

No offense, but Lars' 124 games in A-ball are not really comparable to Montero's 33 in the GCL. Whether or not Callis overrates him remains to be seen, but there's clearly more to go on with Anderson at this point.
Also, pardon my ignorance, but what's the problem with posting game reports here? These games are open to the public, so it's not proprietary information, right? I assume the "ban" is up once the season begins?
Review the facts. Callis was all up in Anderson's taint before he had even played a professional game.Originally Posted by ngruz25

Granted, but ... objectively, is he wrong now about Montero now?Originally Posted by Snatch Catch

My issue with it is that he is willing to be all over guys like Anderson and V (two guys who are predestined to be 1B) before they even play an inning professionally, yet he has this major issue with doing anything even close with Montero mostly because...he's might eventually be a firstbaseman.Originally Posted by YASS
It just doesn't add up. Even after Montero has shown two of the most encouraging traits found in young power hitters: Plate discipline and the ability to loft the ball to the opposite field, Callis is still hedging.

Some more stuff there. Great stuff.

I think all the PP boys are boycotting this thread.
Montero hit a line-drive home run to left-centerfield today after hitting 8 in the cages before.

you are correct anyone can go down there and what and report for free here what happened. but no one does.Originally Posted by bmxstreetrider86
patrick and the scout.com network pay for him to go down there and report what is happening. that stuff should remain on PP.
if someone wants to go to tampa and sit next to patrick all day and then come back here and report the same thing for free they are more than welcome.

agreed.

Nobody is reporting the linescores of these minor league spring training games and Patrick was the one keeping a scorecard at this game so he could report those numbers to his site.Originally Posted by bmxstreetrider86

it's really not that complicatedGiving out a small (single) snippet with a link to the article isn't a problem. It's when you're giving out several snippets from the same article is where we start running into problems.
Saying "Betances pitched three scoreless innings today" with a link and leaving it at that isn't a problem. But when you start getting into giving away detailed information:
Betances struck out three, was sitting 92-94; Vizcaino was sitting 91-90, struck out three and was sitting 90-91; Garcia struck out three in his inning, was sitting 90-91 MPH, and also got a ground ball because of a passed ball; Montero went 2-3 with a double and a 2-run home run.....etc, etc, etc....

Does this guy bring his own gun, too? Or does he rely on scouts' guns? Actually, is he a trained scout?
Seems like a pretty good gig, I wish I was getting paid to watch baseball all day. Then again, a scout has a pretty grueling life, so maybe not.
Montero seems to be hitting a homerun in every game.
