I like the Gaffney deal a lot. He was basically the number 2 (w/ Wes in the slot) by the end of the season.

You could almost pencil the Pats in for 12 wins and a berth in the AFC Div. Round. The only thing that stinks about their schedule is all the West Coast games. 6 against NYJ, BUF and MIA, and then KC, OAK, SF, STL, ARI. It's waaaaaay early, but I like it.

LOVE the Gaffney deal. He gets single-coverage a lot in this offense with so much attention being paid to Moss and Welker. Judging by the current market for WR's, this is a discount.

The Patriots today signed former Minnesota Vikings safety Tank Williams to a one-year contract, according to the St.. Paul Pioneer Press.

Williams, 27, appeared in 13 games with two starts last season for the Vikings after missing all of 2006 because of a training-camp knee injury.

Williams will add depth behind Rodney Harrison and James Sanders. He fills the spot vacated by Eugene Wilson.

Jesus, did DaBomber just disappear? Kind of funny that he talks sh*t all season long, and then when his team loses, he runs away.

    Come again?

Are you refrerring to my opinion on the relevance of a taped walk-through, should one exist?

What's funny about it? They're two different discussions, no? (If one exists and it's relevance if it does-that is)

Sure, sure. So why would you care if one exists given that you don't believe it matters?

Who said I cared? I stated my opinion on both matters (the alleged taping and the relevance if it was true) and have moved on.

Do you want to have a heart-to-heart or something? Enough about me, how do you feel?

Or is this one of those (very) thinly-veiled attempts at baiting me into a discussion that could throw the thread into a tailspin of "NE is teh cheaterz!!!11" followed by "Everyonez doin' it 2!!11"? Because I've kind of outgrown that circullar debate. People are going to think/believe what they want-wrong, right, justified or not, indifferent-all the same.

Ah, I must have misunderstood. I guess you don't care.

A heart to heart? Hmm, I'm not sure where you came up with that one. I think I'm okay for now, but if I'm ever feeling down I'll look you up.

No, not really. I found it interesting but obviously I misunderstood that you could care less if they taped the walk through or not.

    Are you always this indirect?

If you have a point, feel free to make it.

I'm not sure what your issue is with my posts. I never said I cared nor that I didn't care. I've stated ad nauseum that NE has violated rules and had no issues with the penalty they were given. I've stated that if it comes out that NE did tape the Rams walk-through before the SB, they should be levied an additional penalty. I've also stated, that in my opinion, if a tape does exist it played no part in the victory.

    Does that help?

    Often times I am indirect.

My point is that if there is a tape that the Patriots cheated the most important game in the NFL, that victory should be taken away. And if it played no part in the victory, then why would the Patriots have done it? Reality is nobody would know if it played a part in the victory or not, but what we do know is that if the Patriots didn't think it would help, they would never have knowingly cheated by taping the walkthrough.

These are all fair points and tough to contest in any way shape or form. The problem that your penalty creates is the matter of precedence. Setting such a precedent could be dangerous going forward and I highly doubt the Player's Union would stand for it. I disagree with it but I have a vested interest as well. Truthfully if things happened the other way around, I wouldn't be asking for the Lombardi. Easy to say, I know.

"And if it played no part in the victory, then why would the Patriots have done it?"

The obvious answer is, if they did it, it was done with the intent to gain a competitive advantage. But following through with the process doesn't equate to the competitive advantage being earned. Or better stated, it doesn't equate to the desired results. It becomes moot when the opposition overcomes any possibility of said competitive advantage and succeeds regardless.

The Rams walkthrough was a practice of 'red-zone offense' according to Rams officials. The Rams entered the red-zone once and scored a TD. Advantage nullified.

It's pretty safe to say that if a tape exists, it played no part in the outcome of the game. If it was done, it was all for not (naught?).

BB's a compulsive voyeur. I think half the stuff on voyeur.com is his!!!

Seriously, as I was corrected a few pages ago, if the Rams spent all game in the Red Zone and not converting, there woudl be a valid argument. Since they scored, eventually, the only time they did, it's a moot point.

This is a horrible argument. While I don't think I'd advocate for the NFL to take away the Patriots' victory (IF any evidence ever comes to light that they did this), it's a reasonable thing to consider. The idea is to punish the crime and deter others from cheating. If there was intent to gain an advantage, you punish someone for that intent -- not analyze it afterward and then decide it might not have mattered.

I don't think we disagree, I just think you're misunderstanding what I'm saying.

    1) IF it's true that NE taped a Rams practice prior to the SB, they should be penalized.

    2) IF it's true that NE taped a Rams practice prior to the SB, in my opinion, it did not factor into the outcome of the game.

These are two separate thoghts exclusive of one another for me.

Fair enough. Now maybe one day we'll figure out if any of this is relevant

The longer Dabomber is gone, the sadder his life is to me. It's an internet message board and he's worried about what people are going to say to him. Just come back, take a few shots for your comments, and go back to posting.

I'm here, so this doesn't apply to me.

But some Pats fans, probably like some Yankees fans after 2004, just needed to take a time out after SB 42.

For my part, I didn't watch ESPN for about a week after the game and I refused to discuss the game in any detail with my friends who are Giants fans.

DaBomer apparently still isn't in the mood to talk about the Pats with relative strangers.

Other people practice different kind of avoidance in the face of a bad result.

To connect the dots from the fact that he isn't posting on a message board with Giants fans and a lot of other fans who hate the Patriots and many of their fans to the conclusion that he has a sad life is a pretty big jump in my opinion.

Without the bright glare of the cameras and the opportunity to draw a lot of attention to himself with the entire football world focused on the Super Bowl, I guess this issue just isn't all that important to the Opportunist, er, the good senator from Pennsylvania.

What it means to me is that he cant take the heat. If you talk trash---then you gotta be a man and "take your medicine" if your team loses. He can dish it out but he cant take it back.

    That's one possible explanation.

I don't know this poster at all. I think we went back and forth in threads a few times and we exchanged a PM about traveling to the Pats-Jets game in light of the terrible weather.

But even without knowing him, there are lots of other possible explanations. The most likely is that the guy just doesn't feel like talking about this game right now. Maybe he knows that if he started posting, he'd blow himself up and get RO'd.

Sometimes, being a man is knowing when not to engage.

Theo, I'm 100% with you on the ESPN thing and not watching sports shows or the news when one of my teams loses. However, DaBomber was the one who ran his mouth non-stop, so to duck out and not take his medicine says to me that he is a coward.

Thanks Mecca....this is my point exactly. It bothers me when you have people who constantly talk trash, talk down to other fans, and act like they are special cuz they root for a good team....but when their team loses, they run away and hide. Its his turn to take the heat. If you trash talk--you have to be willing to take it as well when your team goes down. People who hide are cowards.

The irony of your sig is too thick when saying this. Life has indeed moved on in a physical sense but of course, you can't wait to remind him of the past.

Mo isnt the one who talked immense trash before the game, then went into hiding after his team lost

Yeah, I get that. It still doesn't make his/her post any less ironic.

Re: The Official 2008 New England Patriots Thread

It's also possible that DaBomber lurked here after that game, saw some of the things being written in some of the threads and realized that he didn't really belong here.

Frankly, the level of extreme hatred expressed by some of the posters toward the Pats and, more to the point, their fans, often from fans who openly admitted it was because Pats fans are often Sox fans, was not something I entirely expected. Though perhaps I was naive in not expecting that.

I could imagine another poster seeing some of that and saying "screw it, let them enjoy their hatefest and gloatfest without me."

Sometimes, the level of hatred -- on both sides -- is hard to digest. A friend of mine who is about 6'4", very fit and an expert in one of the martial arts (I forget which) was taking a leak at Yankee Stadium, wearing a Sox hat, when he started to get harassed by a few guys. It was near in time a very bad incident in Iraq for American soldiers. My friend most likely could have handled these guys with ease but instead he turned to them and said "you do realize that I'm an American and not an Iraqi? I like a baseball team in one city and you like a team in another...so we should fight about that?" And then he just walked by two sheepish looking dudes.

That could have happened in Fenway in the other direction and it could have happened anywhere. My point is NOT that it was the Yankees fans who were doing the harassing.

And it doesn't make DaBomber not showing up here the right thing or the wrong thing.

I'm just saying that sometimes the hate gets so intense that it makes being around the haters pretty unappealing. Walking out of the bathroom without fighting is one reaction and just not engaging on a message board is another.

Good story. The only difference would be if your friend was doing the taunting originally.

However, I will agree some of these arguments are so silly. Virtually everyone here loves their team(s). We are all the same, we just root for different colors.

Good point, except we'd have to do a pretty big retroactive search to see just who was the first poster to start taunting. Which of course as any kindergarten teacher will tell you, doesn't mean anything either.

I would actually agree that in many cases on this, and every other message board is that often times, everyone is different, and the colors of the teams people root for is actually the least of those differences. I remember when I was getting chirped because I'm a Yankees/Patriots fan saying that their are some fans of both of those teams that I find deplorable, and that I would say that I have more in common with certain Sox/(Jets/Giants, but never Colts/Broncos)) fans, based on how they approach their teams.

For example, for me personally, I can't stand anyone who wears a Got Rings? or 26 vs. 7 t-shirt. If that's you, it doesn't make you a bad fan, I just don't agree with rooting for a team because they win more often than the others. Even MORE so, I don't like the fans that hold the fact that they think they are better fans because the Yankees have been so successful. I guarantee you, there are 5 or 6 Devil Rays fans out there that can hold their own with the best Yankees fans. Same goes for the Patriots. Somewhere in Houston or Glendale, there's a guy who knows how the ST free agents are going to impact their team, and who he thinks would be good fits in the mid rounds of the draft. He (or she) is a better fan in my mind (I know saying that is close to being against CS) than the Patriots fan who talks about how great the Patriots are and can only name Tom Brady and Tedy Bruschi on the roster.

    That's just me though.

This was always my gripe with the Yankees. It became my gripe with the Patriots. And, sadly, it is becoming a reality with the Red Sox, too.

Then, on the other hand, more fans=more ticket sales=more revenue=better the ability to put a quality club on the field=more titles=more fans=more ticket sales=more revenue=better the ability to put a quality club on the field=more titles=more fans...........

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, more fans, generally (but not always) leads to more success. It was funny, I got an email this morning (auto generated I'm sure) from the Patriots selling St. Patrick's Day Patriots gear. I commented to my boss, yes, what every Patriots fan wants, Pats stuff that looks like Jets stuff. But I'm sure there's a market for that garbage. And if it means more revenue, better coaches, facilities, etc. I'm all for it. I just won't be wearing it.

Also, more success (almost always) = more bandwagon fans, which tend to be the WORST in terms of saying stupid stuff and making an otherwise loyal and knowledgeable fanbase look bad. The lesson of course is to avoid blanket statements about fans.

Negative. His cutter is not a human pitch, even he says he does not know why it moves like it does, says "God does it." I believe him.

At this point it doesn't really matter. I could understand not wanting to come back for a few days, but if a quick, "Good game, wow I was wrong, etc." is too much to ask from someone who was the main smack talker, I think you're taking the whole thing a bit too seriously.

I gave ieddyi credit last year. Obviously, early in the 2007 MLB nothing went right for NYY, and the stars were aligned for the Sox. He was there, every day, taking his lumps. It's easy to post when you are winning. It's a helluva harder when you are losing.

Eh, but that's the nature of the thing. I'm not going to lump people in this thread into this group, but I know some Pat fans who would still be rubbing it in had they won. I talk my own ................ - not to a wild extent but a bit, sure - and had the Pats won I would have said "ughhh good game" and would be doing the whole "looking ahead to next year" thing too.

Teams and fans circling the wagons look to next year. Champs revel for a while. And if someone was talking a lot of smack they have to accept reprecussions, as text-based and minor as they may be.

yeah. Or, he could be coming on here every day complaining about the refs and how the NFL wanted a Manning to win it again like I read on some other boards.....
