And what does Gina Lollobrigida have to do with the Yankees?

The devil made me do it. And both of them could play for my Yankee team anyday.

You should've done Marilyn Monroe vs. Cynthia Rodriguez. At least then you'd have two Yankee wives in there.

If I didn't find it so blatantly sexist (and if it weren't likely against CS), I'd go so far as to suggest you men go ahead and stage a "hottest Yankee wives" contest in the SB.

I found the connection between Gina and the Yankees ... or at least between Gina and George Steinbrenner!

And by the way, it's Lollobrigida!

Anyone know if the yearly birthday roses ever did stop when Joe D passed?

I've never heard about that. Joe's son, Joe Jr. died in my area a few years back; sounds like he had lead a very troubled life. He was living in a land-locked boat of some kind, down near where Joe Sr. was born (Martinez, California area).

Poor guy. Hope he wasn't trying to live on the boat that Joe D received on his appreciation day given at Yankee Stadium in 1949. The wooden Cris Craft is still in Martinez (out of the water) and it isn't an inclosed boat.

I liked Gina in Trapeze. She was in many Italian films, but she was not in Sophia Loren's league as an actress.
She became a very well respected photographer after her film career ended.

IMHO, Loren was the best actress of the three but Monroe's movies and her performances were both effective and affecting. Very American 1950's-60's. Her closest rival as a movie icon might be Elizabeth Taylor -- but since Taylor's still alive and aging, she'll never be as "forever beautiful" as Monroe. Weird dynamics.

I think that Gina has a great face but only Liz Taylor (see my earlier pic of her) and Audrey Hepburn would I rate above Marilyn. She's just too "YOWZA!!!" for me to explain otherwise.

Hence, my love for great-bodied gals in the HFC contests. Not that these gals could ever compare to her.

I also preferred Sofia Loren to Gina, but everyone has different tastes.

Monroe is simply an icon that none of the other actress/sex symbols can approach and a lot of that has to do with the fact (as you imply) that she died before her great beauty was tarnished by age. Liz Taylor whom you mention is a good example of a once great and beautiful actress who we tend to think of now as an old, overweight, celebrity who used to be Michael Jackson's friend. Gina Lollobrigida is still alive too and over 80 years old. I'd hate to see what she looks like now. I have enough problems looking at recent photos of Brigitte Bardot, who was once one of the sexiest creatures on the planet. Another great beauty who didn't age well was Ava Gardner, the love of Sinatra's life.

I thought she was 14. Anyway, those are the best pix I've ever seen of her.

Not suggesting anything, but she did have great beauty back then, and that's about it.

Well, that makes all the difference (where's a "roll eyes" emitcon when you need it?)

And against my better judgement I will pursue this further..... IMDB says Liz was born in Feb. 1932 and National Velvet was released in Jan. 1945 making Liz 12 years old when they were filming it.

Are you sure you're not confusing that movie with say something like Father of the Bride (made 6 years later) and considered one of Taylor's first "adult" roles? She was a cute little kid in National Velvet (emphasis on kid) but she was also in that awkward pre-teen period and she wasn't exactly a beauty at that time.

    Sometimes you worry me, Brad.

The scene from the movie Niagara with Marilyn walking away from the camera at around 1:43 minute mark.... THAT is why you choose Marilyn.

And they say the Falls are a natural wonder?
    Co-sign. Marilyn is the G.O.A.T. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UA-sdB4BRcY

Liz Taylor is 76 years old right now. You think I'm going to fall in love with a younger pic of hers? She is 76 years old. You expect me to go crazy over someone that old?

I was merely saying that she looked very good. National Velvet is only the first movie I'd heard of where she had a good role, so I could've been hinking about others.

I'm unsure how old she was in that pic she'd posed for. Meanwhile, I haven't heard you comment one way or the next about whether or not you'd felt she looked good in that pic.
