    My dad

Anthony Louis Fiscella was the strongest man I have ever known. He married my mom when I was three, and from that day on, He was my dad. He never treated me like I was anything less than his own. He just loved me unconditionally.

Today, he lost his battle with heart disease. His passing was peaceful, and I am grateful to have held his hand as the Lord took him home.

May he rest with the angels today.

I'm so sorry for your loss. How fortunate for you, that such an unselfish man came into your life when you were so young, and became your Dad. How fortunate for him, that you were there for him at the end of his life.

    Rest in peace, Mr. Fiscella.

Hi Yankchic...I see from your profile that, like me, you were born in '80.

I lost my Dad (enormous Yankees fan and a great man) in 1999, passed suddenly and peacefully in his sleep in his own bed at home. I will always remember crying uncontrollably when they won the WS that year, because I knew my Dad was as happy as I was to see it happen for the second year in a row. For that reason, the 99 team has always been the most special for me from the Dynasty years.

I know how hard it is to lose a parent so young, but eventually the pain will pass and you'll only be left with the wonderful memories.

Be strong and the people around you will get you through this difficult time with their love.

    It Takes More Than Blood
It takes more than blood to be a dad.
Oh this is surely a proven fact.
I've seen men give his heart to a child ...
Never once think of taking it back.

    A Dad is the one who is always there;
He protects a child from all harm.
He gives a child the assurance that he
will be their anchor in any storm.

A real Dad is a man that teaches his child
all the things in life he needs to know.
He's the tower of strength a child leans on.
The source of love that helps them grow.

There are men that children call Daddy.
Oh, he is their shelter when it rains.
He showers them with unconditional love.
As if it were his blood in their veins.

Whenever you meet a Dad that redefines the word,
honor him with all the respect that is due.
Understand that he proudly wears this banner ...
Because his heart is big enough for you.

It's sad but true that not all men understand
it takes more than blood to be a dad.
Someday if they wake up to their empty life ...
They shall miss what they could have had.

To those men who will never be a dad ...
No matter what they say or do.
It takes more than blood to possess that title ...
And it's only found in a man like you.

I'm glad that he loved, taught and guided you, through all the years you both knew ... and I'm glad he never, ever made you feel like you were not his own.

So, Randi, even though he was not there, as you came upon this earth ... Nor the one responsible, or present for your birth ... Anthony Louis Fiscella, was, just as you've simply said -- he was, and is, your dad.

Losing those whom we love is something we all must go through. That part of being human which we all share doesn't ease the immediate pain and sorrow, but as long as you keep your dad's spirit alive in your heart, he will always be with you in the truest sense.
