    From L.A. to Spokane

Well, for a whole bunch of reasons, my wife and I just completed the Big Move and left our home in Los Angeles and have relocated to Spokane, Washington.

This move puts us much closer to family and we are both looking forward to a different lifestyle and climate. Life in Los Angeles had become overbearing with its expense, over-crowding, and stress. While we did sadly leave many friends behind, we are very excited about starting this new chapter in our lives.

We made the trip in about 3 days, braving snow and desolate highways with spotty cell phone reception. Driving a U-Haul while towing my car through sheets of snow was an experience I don't wish to repeat anytime soon.

Anyway, I'm wondering how many Yankees fans I can expect to find in my new home. My wife and I are already planning a trip to Seattle to catch the Yankees when they visit there.

I myself am deeply jealous. Washington is a beautiful state & the people are really cool. I wish you much happiness in your new home.

Thanks. I know we're cool. But AZ people aren't bad either.

You're welcome. I'm hoping to be cool too someday & move up to Seattle. I'll be up in Seattle for 5 days in Feb. visiting friends & snowboarding, so I guess that makes me lukewarm.

    Thank you!

It's been snowing here for most of the day. While it made unloading the U-Haul a little more difficult, it sure made the neighborhood really pretty. Everything is covered in a perfect blanket of white.

As a native Southern Californian, I'll have to learn how to drive in winter conditions. Fortunately, my brother has been driving in winter for some years now so I'll have some help.

I would love to participate in some kind of Yankee fans invasion of Safeco!

    Where exactly is Port Townsend?

My wife and I were making a very decent combined income and it still would have been very difficult for us to get into a house in L.A. It just wasn't feasible. We would have been in our apartment for a very long time. We're looking to start a family soon and the cost of buying or getting into a bigger apartment would have been prohibitive.

We are going to be in roughly the same income neighborhood in Washington and with lower real estate prices, we'll be able to get into a house much sooner.

    Thanks for the good wishes.

Great, sounds like fun. I'm driving cross country starting Thursday morning back home. Gotta love the snow.

I totally understand about the real estate costs. Out of curiosity, were you and your wife able to stay in the same type of job/same income range or did one or both of you have to switch?

It's a great stadium (Safeco that is). I try to go to every Mariners-Yanks game in Seattle each year. Luckily there will be many of us Yanks fans there, unfortunately there will be quite a few Sox fans wearing "Yankees suck" gear as well

If I end up in your area I'm gonna give you a jingle.. I'm excited for this trip, I guess. It's a good time to catch up with my father and I'm excited to go home. However, the car ride is going to suck because of the weather!

Stopped in PT once while on a ship (I was in the Navy). Unfortunately it was only overnight and I only got to stay long enough to get a few beers at one of the local pubs. I wished I could have spent more time there as it looked like a really cool place.

Well, my wife is doing a career switch and going into a service/sales position which figures to pay her pretty close to her job in L.A., where she did commercial trafficking for network radio. Obviously, much depends on her comission but we are very optimistic about her chances for success.

I was doing TV production administration for a company noted for its parsimony (company name rhymes with "Box"). I am looking to do the same kind of work (project managing), though not necessarily in TV, as my skill set is translateable to a variety of industries. Based on my research, I should be making about the same, if not more, income than I was getting paid by that aforementioned company run by that evil Australian person.

Welcome to WA! It will be 3 years this January since we moved up from AZ, so I can relate to the driving a moving truck (with car towed in back) over passes and hills with sheets of ice. One of the most terrifying drives ever and will never do that again.

“The question is, do we want to do it? The question is, are we still hungry enough to do it?”

Are they doing ok business wise? I know the shutdown of the ferry has really hurt businesses in PT.
