    Airport Security

I forgot that I had a bottle of water, which was meant to be consumed on my way to the airport, in my carry on bag.

It blows my mind that if I take a sealed bottle of water through security they confiscate it, scan it and carry it away. Yet my ipod, cell phone, digital camera, 6 AA batteries and associated charger don't get a second look.

    Am I missing something?

That's my mini rant for today.
If they ask who was our star, give them 25 names, and if you forget our names, just tell them we were Yankees.

If that German guy can down a liter of vodka in the boarding line, I think you had an option.

I know what you mean, though. It does seem ridiculous that bottled water is so suspect.

People complain too much about the airline security restrictions.

There's a reason why they let you take certain things and not take certain things.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not complaining if it came across that way. I know there's a reason for it - no matter how odd it may seem. I respect the security people and I know they are only doing their job. I'd never give them a hard time.

It's still better than flying out of Turkey, where we had to go out onto the tarmac in the wind and rain, and stand next to our bags as they were loaded on the plane. Any bag not spoken for was supposedly taken out for Explosive Ordinance Disposal.

The last time I flew they took away my bottle of water too. I just forgot about it.

Other then the wind and rain, what's wrong with that? I don't want any bags on my plane that aren't a passengers. I know that it won't stop everything, but it's a good first step.

Ok - it appears I came off as complaining. That wasn't my intent. The point wasn't about the water, or PITA security procedures...

I could care less about a 20 cent bottle of water...I understand why it was taken. The point I was trying to make is that the electronic devices seem to just fly through - no verification that they work or they are what they appear to be (insert Denny Green reference here). That struck me as odd - that's all I'm saying.

As far as Turkey goes, hell yeah, I was glad they did it for obvious reasons....my point there was the security here is more efficient in that sense....where you check in, but stay with your bags until they are scanned and searched then you are free to go.

I'm pretty sure that wasn't Ataturk International. I actually think the security system there is better than most US airports.

Things would go a lot quicker if people stopped getting all antsy about profiling. People fitting a certain description are a lot more likely to be a threat. Why the hell are they still taking 11 year old girls from Minnesota for additional screening?

It was the airport in/near Adana - and it was several years prior to 9/11

Yeah, that place was in pretty bad shape but I bet all of the Ceyhan money will turn it around.

    Exactly.

This isn't directed at the original poster but if you aren't willing to sacrifice 3-5 hours of so freedom to stay safe then you should find another alternative to airlines (yes, I know that isn't as easy as it sounds).

I agree with you - and I'd rather deal with losing 3-5 hours of freedom than the alternative. I mean really - is flying from New York to LA (as an example) really that much more dangerous (even in these times) than driving it and spending 3-4 days or more on the road?

I think overall, the airports have come a long way since 2001.
