AROD throws Boras under the bus, officially

As heard from Bob Klapisch on the the Max Kellerman show today....
AROD said at press conference that Boras lied to him by saying that Yankees were not interested in him. It was only this lie that led to the agreement to opt out. Boras was also supposed to wait until Monday after WS to make announcement. AROD will pay Boras for work already done, but needs him no longer.

Again, it is a nice statement, but how naive does A-Rod think we are? Everyone knew the Yankees were interested, the guy doesn't read a paper, look on the web? Plus Hank and Hal said they called him, so I don't believe A-Rod, but I am glad to hear someone stand up to Boras, even if it is phony lol.

Re: AROD throws Boras under the bus, officially

Actually all the calls should go through his agent, Boras wasn't answering the calls ..but the only two people who know what really went on is Arod and Boras, and Ill take a Yankee Legend in the making words over his anyday..

    Doin' it again in 2010..

C'mon now, it's not like ARod is going to need an agent to negotiate another contract for him. His contract negotiating days are over.

    ========
Endorsements and the like will be a major pain to negotiate without an agent. I suspect that a new agent will be named down the road when Boras' contract officially expires.

Boras (and most agents) do a heck of a lot more than negotiate contracts. I'll be surprised if he really cuts him off.

During the conference call he skirts a lot of the questions about him and Boras. This is just more of Boras' work, not that I mind, I am very happy to have Alex back but I don't believe him when he talks about the situation and his relationship with Boras.

I know but it just seemed to me like Arod was doing a little public relations fence mending.

I'm sure ARod is a good guy but sometimes it's hard for me to take him seriously.

Except for one day - its not gonna be about AROD! I have to say I am surprised that the Yanks chose today to announce it. I understand the "we have the clean guy" theory, but I would wait til after today's hoopla, so we could get some good press on this!

    Exactly.

Boras has no problem taking the public hit for all this if it can somehow help his client. The fact that A-Rod isn't actually firing him tells us a lot of what we really need to know.

Knew there was more to it. Hopefully people understand this and don't hold the opt-out against A-Rod. Also so much for the polished, fake A-Rod, he tossed Boras' ass under the bus.

The one question that A-Rod didn't answer that really bothered me was why didn't he call Hank right away after opting out or before deciding to.

Why should anyone care that A Rod opted out? Since A Rod ended up signing with the Yankees for close to the same amount he would have recieved if he had not opted out can't we all just let the issue die and move on to other things.

I imagine every player wants an agent who'll take the heat for you like this, and I imagine many players view this story as exactly that.

Why would you continue to employ an agent somehow who did this to you?

Boras is probably just doing what he needs to do to do right by his client, especially since he did mess up in judging the market and response. Hopefully for the good of the Yankees, it's bought into and people/media back off Alex.
