The only two first-place votes that didn't go to Rodriguez were from Tom Gage of The Detroit News and Jim Hawkins of The Oakland Press in Pontiac, Mich.
how is this allowed ?

He needs to do it in the post-season. Otherwise it doesn't count.
Good news is that there's another 3 or 4 to come with him on the Yankees.![]()
Congrats to A-Rod on his MVP and a sensational, historically great season.

Those writers from Detroit should get their votes revoked. Not voting Alex first is right up there with that guy from Chicago putting Jeter behind A.J. Pierzynski in 2006.
I can understand (I said understand not agree) the Detroit writer backing his man Mags but who's in Oakland?

where did Jorge finish?

Jorge finished 6th and Jeter 11th.

It's Billy Beaner's fault! He must have been owed a favor. He's just jealous he can't afford him.Originally Posted by kino4

I just give up...
Congrats, saw this coming.
I'm just glad I can celebrate this as a Yankee fan today and not as a baseball fan.
*grumbles*
Should have been unanimous.
Congratulations Alex. Now please do it again next year.
Congrats Alex. I think you're being overpaid based on this, so please, prove me wrong.

Congrats Alex. I am much happier giving my congrats since you are still (unofficially) a Yankee.![]()
It's A-rod's fault. He should have come out in dancing with the stars to get those two votes.

Not that it comes as a surprise, but Congratulations! 156 RBI - this was a well earned MVP. We wouldn't have been to the playoffs without him. And I'm glad I can now look forward to A-Rod's future MVP seasons. Keep it up!
Meet the new boss [Hank], same as the old boss [George]
Hopefully he can improve on this lackluster effort next season...
Lance Berkman is a Yankee!! Finally a Rice U. guy on the team!

I agree, though, that it should've been unanimous. Whatever wins the Yankees did manage during their rough patch appeared to be on his shoulders alone. Congrats to A-Rod.
Funny turn of events..... Last week, this thread would have been in "Around the Majors'.
Congrat's A-Rod. Rest up, cause you just have to go out and do it again in 08!![]()

Sweet.
I really wish A-rod/Boras didn't pull the crap they did. He JUST STARTED to win NY over. Now he's love/hate. I dont think he'll ever fall into good graces again.
I wouldn't be surprised to see him traded in 3 years.
Congrats fvcknuts.![]()

Congrats to A-Rod on a magical season.I don't think it will be the last time he wins either...
Ordonez had a great season but he didn't deserve even one first place vote...
where did they publish the names of the two michigan writers?
Well at least I can be (somewhat) proud of him now, being a lifelong Yankee and all.
Congrats, Alex!
Silly Detroit voters. I want to hear them defend themselves, just for kicks.
"Well he was going to win anyway, to we decided to support our man for the hell of it!"

how wasnt this unanimous?? the league needs to do something about favoring their hometown heroes, and make them give a fair vote.
Phil Hughes is a starter!

I'm surprised it's not unanimous. Any ideas who voted for Abreu in 7th? That's more shocking to me than the Detriot writers voting for Magglio.
Why? Does it cheapen it somehow? is it only 98/100ths of an MVP?Originally Posted by a-RobinsonCano-Fan
I think two obvious homers voting for Maggs just shows how obvious a choice AROD was.
The only way anyone else even got a vote was for publicity/homerism.
