Congrats to A-Rod for this MVP Award. This was the best single season individual performance I have ever witnessed. Hopefully he plays [this] well for the next decade for the Yankees.
Agreed. We should have got rid of jeter a long time ago. What a dumb move that was!Originally Posted by montrealer

Your not a great fan of the best player on this team? Funny, these are the types of things you might say if, Dave Ortiz won the MVP, or anyone else not on your favorite team.Originally Posted by Yankees Empire
They're counting on being interviewed on ESPN. What better way to get on TV? Then they can rehash the "you can't truly appreciate Magglio unless you watched him on a daily basis" excuse. MVP is MVP, but it should have been unanimous.Originally Posted by frostdude1
The guy did kind of act like a jerk. I was a huge fan of A-Rod as a player (my fave player actually, while DJ is my favorite Yankee), but I can't quite get back to that level of respect and appreciation as I did before the opt out. His 2007 season had me hook, line and sinker. His opt-out really sucked. Here's hoping he convinces me again in '08.Originally Posted by dkman

Congrats A-Rod. You clammed up some nay sayers last year in the regular season. It'll be even harder this year with the opt out nonsense, but nothing 60 HR or so (with a few in the PS) can't cure![]()
Congrats A-rod! Let's do it again next year...

Still don't like him and never have. In his first go-around I cheered for him because he was a Yankee. When he opted out I was pissed but hey, at least I didn't have to pretend that I like him anymore. Now... well... I just don't understand how the NY fans seem so quickly to forgive and forget.

because of 3 yankee hater writers this really shoulda been a back to back to back Yankee MVP w/jeter sandwich in the middle of arod's 2 yankee MVPs

Heh, A-rod is lucky he pulled this crap in NY. Supposedly, we are the most "buy a player" type fans out there. I wonder how this would have worked out for him in bean town.
A couple of years ago when Pedro was in his prime and had an ERA in the high 1's he lost the MVP award because a NY writer left him off the ballot completely (remember the MVP is a top 10 list). These things happen because sports writers like to think they're bigger than the game so instead of voting for the right player (in this case Arod) they will vote for a local player or won't vote for a rival player. Just be glad it didn't cost Arod the award because some sports writer refuses to vote according to how he should.Originally Posted by Game4Tino

Well, I guess I'm back to liking him again.
Way to go and Many More....
How those two clowns in Michigan didn't vote for A-Rod is beyond me.
I heard this today...Did Coltrane actually exist? This is like being blind for 50 years, regaining sight, and then peering directly at the sun.

It should have been unanimous but at least he won. In 1996 he was absolutely robbed when Juan Gonzalez won. It should have been unanimous then, too.
1996
Juan Gonzalez WARP3= 5.4
Alex Rodriguez WARP3= 13.9
Juan Gonzalez OPS+= 145
Alex Rodriguez OPS+= 160
That means A-Rod was worth 8.5 more wins to his team then Juan Gon!
Then again, it isn't as bad for sportswriters as it is now considering the how easy it is to get statistics. Oh wait, yes it was:

I've never cared for A-Rod's general demeanor. He strikes me as having all the sincerity of one running for the U.S. Senate. And I really don't care for how this whole "opt-out" situation has gone down.Originally Posted by dkman
I respect A-Rod's abilities as a ballplayer and being a Yankees fan, I hope he continues to perform well. Nevertheless, alot would have to change for me to admire him on the same level as some of my personal favorites (Jeter & Posada, O'Neill & Mattingly from the past).
Shouldn't they have a higher honor for a single player performance, something that no one could possibly reach, just so fans can react with disgust when he doesn't achieve it?

The way I see it, it's very difficult to judge a players demeanor from the perspective of a fan. Maybe Jeter is just better at looking like he has a good demeanor in public. Maybe press coverage affects my perception. We also don't know how the opt out situation really went down between how Boras acted and how A-Rod wanted the situation to play out.Originally Posted by Yankees Empire

I agree. The HoF is cheapened when guys like Ted Williams and Ernie Banks are allowed in it. F'ing losers.Originally Posted by gdn
