All this hoopla over very generic uniforms....ouch

Can't get more generic than that. I love the caption for the James Shields pic, "James Shields will throw many pitches at Tropicana Field next year in this uniform."

    Wow.

Yes, the last few paragraphs at the bottom

"Yet the organization will not remove all connection to its first 10 years of play as the Devil Rays. An updated Devil Rays patch will continue to be worn on the left sleeve of the jersey. The team will also continue to operate its popular touch tank filled with live rays at Tropicana Field."

Way too generic and boring, and the fact that they don't have "Tampa Bay" on the away uniforms irks me as well.

Re: Tampa Rays...new look and name

It took this long to release this garbage, away uniforms should have the name of the teams home city on it. The colors are good, but get rid of the name "Rays" it doesnt work or better yet fold the franchise. Why mus every team have a black alternative uniform, arent there any better colors than black. What a waste of a franchise.

The color scheme is actually really pretty. Otherwise, they're just kind of 'meh', and it's the same font as the old uniforms.

Its better then what they started with in 1998, but its still not that great. I hope these new uni's bring about better play and maybe I will actually go to some D-Ray, I mean Rays games next season

Good for the Rays and their new uniforms!! This may be the year they get out of the celler. Who knows maybe Baldini stays healthy and they get some pitching. I hope they get to surprise the AL and move ahead of the Red $ox!!

Definitely an improvement, better than I thought it would look from the description in the paper. Thanks for the pics.

For their sake, I hope the "new uni, new name, new era" idea comes with a more competitive team. They've got a good young core base established now, but they need to spend a little cash to fill in some of the pieces they still need.

I was at the uni/logo unveiling last night. In person, I like the look. The players were all pretty cool and they had some of the better players in attendance.....Kazmir, Upton, Crawford, Gomes, Sonanstine, etc. Of course, the biggest cheer of the night was for "Zip" Zimmer!!!! He looks great, by the way.
Also, Kevin Costner should stick with acting. I left after two songs. The band was awful

Maddon2006: In addition, our team colors of green and black have been replaced by navy blue with a light blue shadow, with royal blue trim, an electric blue collar, and several cornflower blue nautical stars throughout. We will also wear a New York Yankees hat during our away games.

Maddon2006: Our logo of a Devil Ray will be replaced by a newer, bright yellow logo that compliments our blue uniforms and kinda looks like how it looks when Link hits things with his sword in Wind Waker.
Maddon2006: In celebration of today's great event, the city of Tampa Bay has arranged for a fashion show, featuring our great legends Wade Boggs and Fred McGriff, and several other players who are more famous for playing for other teams.

Expansion teams. Before long they'll be the Orlando Rays of Tampa Bay. Maybe they'll adopt a rally orca.

Unis could be worse. They could be those godawful vests that were so en vogue in the late '90s, perhaps of the purple-and-teal variety.

I remember the first week on the 1997 season, the Yankees were playing the newly-renamed Anaheim Angels. I saw those terrible vests and could only think "WTF?"
