I can't negotiate the Site without being kicked out. I've had countless database errors and a few freezes.

It's understandable with this volume of people viewing the Site.

Perhaps we can make this member-only for the time being as it has been in the past during these high volume times?

How bad was it when we had 1,317 people online?

Oh... and how about only letting Americans on for now?

    Re: Site Trouble

I have a feeling the issue might not be the forum but the database usage on the main page with the new blog and whatnot... I'll look into the code to see if I can optimize anything... in the meantime, the hosting company has been on top of things and have re-started crashed services.

This is a very busy time of year...

    Sorry for any inconvenience...

I think you have to click the link on the top of the home page...the side links on the forum pages don't seem to be functioning.

I used to lurk another forum prior to this years back, they implemented a feature where you'd only be able to view the GDT's after a certain amount of posts. Honestly, it'll help with both the logjam and get rid of the hit and run trolls..

When the Yankees get eliminated, this board lights up more so than the rest of the year. I noticed the board was slow or couldn't even get on for a minute or two when we were losing in game 3. As soon as we had the big inning, navigation was seemless. Then of course last night's loss lit up the board again.

It happened the last 3 years when we got bounced in round 1.

I'm curious, what happened on 7/31 that made this board light up and set the new record? I was on my honeymoon then.

Is anyone experiencing site trouble lately? For the past week or so especially, the site has gone down for me a lot...I haven't been experiencing the problem with any other sites.

    Anyone else having issues?

Yes, I have an issue with Sam.

Oh, you mean technical problems? Actually, the site was slow to load a few times this afternoon.

Thinking about it again. Ban all the Red Sox fans for a start. Then get rid of all the posters who are in the northern hemisphere (not counting America of course). That would be a start.

I could put my picture up there instead so you could see how pissed off I am, but I don't want to add "horrified" to "frustrated" when you see that page.

    Hi,

In an effort to ensure the stability of the site, as per this thread, I've implemented some small changes such as the one you are referring to in order to reduce database load.

I'll be doing some server upgrades when the season is over, which hopefully won't happen for several weeks and hopefully I'll be able to afford, so these features will be re-implemented at that point.

    Sorry for the temporary inconvenience.

I'm only guessing, however it seems to me that the guests are not the problem. We can have 600 guests on here at once and it doesn't seem to take down the server. However, if you've been on the site when it does go down it's always right after a very critical play where everybody wants to chime in. Now if 200 folks try to post all at once, that may be enough to cripple the system. That's my guess....and guests can't post.

I also imagine that guests increase site traffic which helps with the ad revenue. Sounds like Jim is trying a few things but I don't think any of us can expect him to hurt the site's bottom line. You have to pay the bills.

Actually that makes sense, also thinking about it I'm sure the guests probably bring ad money in to the site too.

EDIT: and I see Muggsy said the same.
