I am shocked at how little excitement Caray showed on Melky's homer - rediculous. So rediculous that I didn't even know it was going to be a homer!

Well at least TBS got some great and classy players in Frank Thomas, Cal Ripken, Tony Gwynn, and Curtis Granderson..
Just a tad better than ESPN's oh... John Kruk, Steve Philips or when FOX once used Bret Boone..
Which of these thing doesn't belong?Frank Thomas, Cal Ripken, Tony Gwynn, and Curtis Granderson..
No offense to Granderson because he's a good guy and he probably got this through his mlb.com thing, but he's still only a 3rd year player....

TBS' coverage so far has been amateurish at best. They've got a lead announcer who is openly rooting for one of the teams while spewing out garbage about the winning run being on base in the bottom of the 8th or even worse the TOP OF THE NINTH. The guy has no clue, his father obviously got him into the business and now his father's name is keeping him there. They are constantly splitting the screen for some other useless tidbit or graphic. They are constantly promoting other games and events during the event with on screen graphics, you can hardly watch the game. Oh, and they take the cake for stupidest on screen graphic of all time with that BS "Length of Lead" garbage over at 1st. Just a bad, bad job.
Jeez, I almost forgot, they've got Craig Sager interviewing fans and Queen Latifah. Nuff said.
I have the Dish Network and they just started to broadcast TBS HD today. (good timing)Originally Posted by jlam

Agreed. I think I've heard them get a players' name wrong at least a few times. That's about as bush-leagues as it gets.Originally Posted by stephsamps

Chip Caray is the worst announcer I've ever heard in my life. He outwardly is rooting for Cleveland.
At least Hawk Harrelson is an actual broadcaster for the team he roots for in the booth. Caray might as well put on an Indians hat and wave pom poms in the booth. Terrible. I never thought I would say this, but please give me Buck-McCarver.

Seeing these guys on the pregame gathered around a baseball diamond laid out in a hardwood studio doing, well, I DON'T KNOW what they were doing on the pregame was embarrassing. Frank Thomas has NOTHING to say. seemed like a waste of hardwood flooring.

I thought Caray was pretty solidly behind the Yankees during the Game 3 broadcast. He was noticably more excited when the Yanks started to rally than when the Indians scored their early runs.Originally Posted by dabomb2045

I think that's because the Yanks were the home team this time out.Originally Posted by Why Not?

The TBS coverage hasn't been anything great, but nothing could be worse than Joe Buck. I despise him, especially for his lame call of the Boone HR, one of the most dramatic moments not only in Yankee history, but in baseball history.

That's a lot of lost revenue for TBS.

Cal Ripken and Tony Gwynn should be involved on every postgame broadcast period.
The rest of TBS can go.
That's possible, I didn't hear much of the earlier games.Originally Posted by mjdlight

I'm sure Frank Thomas is a wonderful guy, but he looks like a high schooler trying to deliver a speech in front of the class.
I had taped the game and I'm watching a few highlights now..I have to say -- I'm seriously worried about Tony Gwynn's health. He was always a little chunky -- a little moreso the older he got -- but he's gained a lot of weight -- I hope he loses weight..seems like a great guy and he looks a bit unhealthy...

I have to agree about Gwynn being a good person and his weight. I'm afraid that if he doesn't lose some weight soon, he'll go down the same road that Kirby Puckett did.Originally Posted by b-ball-lunachick

I look at this way.... anything that gives me an alternative to ESPN is a good thing.
I don't know if this bugged anyone else, but in the postgame show Thomas talked about the throw to third by Victor Martinez in the third inning being the 'play of the game.' Now, I agree that it was dumb to throw to third instead of first with one out in a game the Indians led 3-0 (although if Blake knew it was coming, they might have had Matsui). However, Damon followed with an RBI single that scores a run even if it's two out with a runner on third rather than one out with runners at the corners. The Yankees did no further damage in that inning, so why was that play so pivotal?Originally Posted by Bugg

Wow, Chip Caray is in fine form tonight.
(When talking about a possible rain delay)
"The Indians would be upset if they lost Byrd with the way he's been pitching tonight"
This coming after Byrd had given up four baserunners in 1 1/3.
"All Byrd wants to do is get to Johnny Damon here in the second."
This is with Doug M at bat with runners on 1st and 2nd with one out. Doesn't Byrd want to get a DP ball there and not pitch to Damon? If Doug M homers, is Byrd now happy to be facing Damon?
"Jeter's first at bat, he took one back up the middle."
Actually, he singled the opposite way to right.
This was just one half inning of work.
I don't think Kenny Williams thinks he's a wonderful guy. That was an incredible rant by Williams on Thomas after the ChiSox won the WS.Originally Posted by bigwampum

Chip Caray- "He (Paul Byrd) was magnificent."
Thanks TBS, just what I wanted, the insights of Jon Bon Jovi during ALDS baseball. Well done.
I think we now know what happened to that missing millionaire adventurer guy.
Tony Gwynn ate him.
These guys have no business doing national baseball broadcasts. They make the Miller/Morgan nights on ESPN sound good. I hope it was just a one season thing.

Some of those are pretty picky, specifically where he complains about Caray saying, "You can't have a better pitching matchup than what we've seen tonight..." Well, literally speaking, of course you can, but it was just general banter. However, some of the others were spot on.Originally Posted by wexy

I agree. You could probably listen to any sports broadcast and find a similar number of "errors" if you really need to fill some column space. It almost seems like a personal vendetta by the author.Originally Posted by TheYankee

I like Fox better to be honest.

Byrd was good at getting out of trouble all night but dazzling is an overstatement. I admit I didn't like the national media treating Byrd like some pitcher who had like 4 wins all season (he did win 15 games this year). His job was to keep the Indians in the game for 5 or 6 innings and turn it over to the bullpen, which he did. Every inning was excruciating and one or two hits away from disaster but he did his job.Originally Posted by TheYankee
