You did, if that's all you remember. The Real Mel Allen had a great set of pipes and knew how to narrate a highlight show (which was a rarity in and of itself as this was pre-ESPN).Originally Posted by RYMASTER or Ryan_Yankees
This Week in Baseball was must-see TV for me. I'm a little surprised that it only started in 1977. It just seemed to be so much a part of my weekend viewing. From the trumpets that blared in the intro, to watching Freddy Lynn stretch over the center-field fence to rob someone of a home run in the closing credits, it was solid gold every week. Couple that with Greatest Sports Legends (I got a chance to watch the one on Bob Feller and then actually meet him the next week), and that was an hour to an hour and a half of gold.

Mel Allen's voiceovers on TWiB are right up there with the skier wiping out in the opening montage for ABC's Wide World of Sports (The agony of defeat!) in my 'watching sports on TV in the 70's' files...
...speaking of WWoS on ABC - anyone else remember Franco Columbu busting his leg while carrying a refrigerator in a footrace?![]()
