Wrestler Chris Benoit and family found dead (-mod)

    http://www.wwe.com/inside/news/benoitdead

World Wrestling Entertainment is deeply saddened to report that today Chris Benoit and his family were found dead in their home. There are no further details at this time, other than the Benoit family residence is currently being investigated by local authorities.
Tonight’s Raw on USA Network will serve as a tribute to Chris Benoit and his family. WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family’s relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy.

havent watched wrestling in years but i do remember him from way back....

Unfortunately, yes. It's being discussed in the WWE thread.

That is really sad. He was a real pro. He's not known for his mic skills, but you never got cheated when he was in a match.

    The whole family? Unreal.

Time for Vince to kill his "death" angle now.

Sheriff's Lt. Tommy Pope said the three were found about 2:30 p.m., but he would release no other details about the deaths at the house near White Water Country Club.
Pope said the deaths were being investigated as homicides, but said the cause of death awaits autopsy results on Tuesday.
He would not say how the bodies were discovered, or who found them.

I haven't watched wrestling since the WCW days, but he was one of my favorites back then.

Very sad. Just an incredible thing.

RIP to he and his family.

I'm hearing he scrapped it to introduce the tribute that's running on USA right now,

Very sad. What I'm hearing right now is that Benoit had been excused to leave a WWE house show last night to attend to a family emergency. Apparently, they were coughing up blood.

For those of you who watched WCW way back when, Benoit's wife was a manager who went by the name "Woman". She was also Kevin Sullivan's ex-wife.

SoSH has a thread similar to this and a poster over there had linked to this:

Bob Ryder has been hit or miss on some of this stuff in the past, so take it for what it's worth as this thing could change by the minute.

It could be fifty different things. The police are treating it like a homicide and there is no evidence of gunplay.

Regardless of the outcome, the guy and his family are all dead and it sucks.

What a shocker. Holy sh*t. First Eddie, now Benoit? This seriously can't be happening.

First his best friend, now his entire family and himself. And to think Vince decided to pull the most insulting angle in WWE history by faking his own death. Where is the justice in this world?

Can you elaborate on the McMahon faking his death thing? My son mentioned something about that and I didn't know what he was talking about.

Basically McMahon had acted if he were going senile for the past month, and a couple of weeks ago, he got in his limo and it blew up immediately. They have been running "tributes" for McMahon ever since, including having his daughter cry over his death. Tonight's show was supposed to be a 3-hour tribute to Vince McMahon, but they, of course, cancelled it and made it a Benoit tribute.

I'd imagine they're immediately stopping that angle now altogether.

Thanks for the explanation. So basically people thought McMahon was dead till tonight? Or was he not fooling anyone?

Anyway, RIP to Benoit and his wife and son.

I doubt many people, outside of young children who don't quite understand that wrestling is scripted, thought he was actually dead, although WWE acted as if Vince were dead. They even did a 10-bell salute for him, and the "tributes" were almost exactly the same as what WWE did for Owen Hart and Eddie Guerrero after they died, and what they probably will do for Benoit now. Dare I say it, the tributes for McMahon were, at points, more extravagant and drawn-out than the tributes for Guerrero or Hart. Even before this, it was already being called the most despicable angle in WWE history - I can only imagine that it would've gotten even worse tonight.

Well everyone knew the real McMahon was alive....but they killed off his character. Just the same way as they would kill off a character in a soap opera or a TV series.

They way they went about it is what pissed everyone off. They had tributes to McMahon and a ten-bell salute...much in the same way they had real tributes and a real ten bell salute to wrestlers like Eddie Guerrero and Owen Hart who have died over the past several years.

Re: Wrestler Chris Benoit and family found dead (-mod)

He was not fooling anyone. Everyone knew he was alive and well, it was just a wrestling angle. I've already spoken about how terrible the death of Benoit and his family is, but people need to lay off McMahon. It's just like soap operas. They have storylines where people die all the time and people from their cast and crew die in real life. It happens. His storyline actually improved ratings and thats what he was trying to do.

Benoit was one of the three best wrestlers I've ever seen (along with HBK and Flair). He seemed like quite the family man and a great person all around.
His wife was a great valet. She really had a lot of heat when she managed Doom in the NWA/WCW years.

Their son Daniel looked a lot like their dad. It's sad that he'll never get to live a good full life. He looked up to his father greatly.

Condolences to the extended Benoit family.

Edit: At this time, the deathed are being ruled a double murder-suicide. It's hard to believe and I'll wait until it's confirmed further to talk more about it.

Re: Wrestler Chris Benoit and family found dead (-mod)

According to this story, Benoit killed his wife and 7 year old son over the weekend before ending his own life earlier today..

    http://www.myfoxatlanta.com/myfox/pa...Y&pageId=3.2.1

Detective Bo Turner told television station WAGA that the case was being treated as a murder-suicide, but said that couldn't be confirmed until evidence was examined by a crime lab.

The station said that investigators believe the 40-year-old Benoit killed his wife, Nancy, and 7-year-old son, Daniel, over the weekend, then himself on Monday. A neighbor called police, and the bodies were found in three rooms.

Re: Wrestler Chris Benoit and family found dead (-mod)

First I would like to say as a wrestling fan i am shocked and saddened by this turn of events. I didnt find out until i turned on RAW, and it just hit me like a ton of bricks. It still hasnt fully sunk in yet.

Something has been bugging me though. All the media outlets are pointing the finger at Benoit right from the start. Im not a detective or anything and I fully admit im pulling this from my ass but if it was a murder suicide i wouldnt rule out the wife. I mean doesnt it seem strange that Benoit would randomly drop everything he was doing and miss a pay per view where he was in a big match to kill his family and then himself? WWE.com originally posted that he missed venegance because of a family emergency. The wife calling him and making up some story saying that she and the kid was sick while just as disturbing, sounds a little bit more believable to me. I just find it weird that a guy who was considered a family man and such a great guy by many just randomly snapped and dropped everything he was doing to fly home and kill his family.

However, regardless of who killed who this is a tragic event, and most likely one that should have been avoided. The Benoit family left us way too soon.

That part is just not right, they have cheapened the tributes to the wrestlers who are actually dead.

Re: Wrestler Chris Benoit and family found dead (-mod)

WWE and the local police have said that it was a murder-suicide, and that Benoit took his own life sometime between the 23rd and the 24th (it seems that he took his wife's and son's lives on the 23rd, from what the police are saying).

I seriously hope it's not true, but at this point it seems like it's basically confimed.

Yeah its sounding like he killed them...then himself. I dont know what to think. From everything you hear about him....everyone always said how great of a family man he was. Just tonight on Raw you had Edge talking about seeing Benoit bring his son into the locker room during a show last month. He commented about how close they seemed and how great Chris was to the kid. You wonder what could have happened to just make him snap like that.

Never heard of vomiting blood as a symptom of carbon monoxide poisoning, turning red yes...and anyone vomiting blood would go to the hospital pretty fast. Sounds like another type of poisoning...

Re: Wrestler Chris Benoit and family found dead (-mod)

WWE.com is now running the headline "Double-Murder Suicide" and have taken down the "Chris Benoit 1967-2007" photo on the homepage and his bio page, and changed his bio page back to what it was before he died, with no mention of his death whatsoever. They basically took down many of the tributes to him, and are pretty much reporting this death in a neutral, "news-like" tone right now.

*EDIT* WWE.com just switched his bio page back to the tribute, although the link to it from the homepage is still taken off, as is the tribute picture/article to him.

Right now i wouldnt be surprised if it was the media jumping to conclusions because he is a big muscular wrestler who might have used steroids. Im not believing anything until it is 100% confirmed, but If it is true I am just as shocked.

What if he came home and found his family dead and then killed himself? Everybody seemed to think that he loved his family more than anything. Maybe im just in denial because im a big benoit fan but I find it hard to believe somebody who is considered to be such a family man, would randomly make up a family emergency so that he could miss a PPV where he is set to win the ECW title so that he could kill his family.

Its most likely denial from my part though. Man I really hope he didnt kill his family.

If authorities believe that Benoit killed his family, I would have to believe that they have some physical evidence which wouild back up their theory.

I undertsand that it's difficult to comprehend how someone would just snap like that, but honestly, nothing shocks me anymore; especially not anything concerning the escalating amount of deaths in pro-wrestling. If these deaths were taking place in the NFL or NBA there would be no end to the amount of federal investigations. The bottom line is that there is something really wrong with with the world of pro-wrestling, or "wrestling entertainment." I think Roddy Piper explained it best in his autobiography from a couple of years ago where he called it "The Sickness" and went on to explain how the business has destroyed people. Well it sounds like it was more then him just going home for a family emergency. Apparently he no-showed a house show and a few other events over the weekend. Some WWE officials were worried about him, tried calling his house but not go answer. He called sometime Sunday and said that he wouldnt make it due to the family emergency. Then there is a report of one wrestler getting "strange" text messages from him late last night.

I dont have links in front of me for those bits of info...cuz there are probably from a bunch of different article I've read in the last hour.

I hear you about the denial part. I dont wanna believe it either. I liked this man and I dont wanna believe he could do such terrible things.

Yeah I posted a few of the links you quoted too. I was of the opinion that Benoit was actually with the WWE when he got a call and then went home. If it turns out that Benoit was at home and then called the WWE, then that is a different story entirely.

Yeah it definetly sounds like he wasnt with them at all over the weekend. I'm not sure what the house show schedule was during the past week leading up to the PPV....but usually they give the wrestlers a few days off prior to the PPV. I do know he was suppose to be at a house show on Saturday. He no showed that, wasnt returning any calls and thats why WWE people were concerned. Then he called on Sunday to say he would be taking a later flight to Houston and would arrive later then planned. He called back then saying he wouldnt be there at all.

The reports that i have seen saying that police believe Benoit was the killer dont have quotes from authorithies though. The quotes I have seen from the police have basically say that they have rules out a gun or knife being used, that they have found the "instruments of death" and that they were investigating it as a murder suicide pending results of the autopsy. No actual quotes from the police on who they believed was the murderer that i have seen. At least not from the local article from http://www.ajc.com/news/content/metr...625benoit.html Well they said they would have the autopsy tommorow i believe, which will either confirm or deny Benoit being a murderer.

Im interested to hear what these "instruments of death" were considering they said no gunshots, stab wounds, or any signs of a struggle. Poisoning?

They didnt say, im thinking maybe whoever the murder was suffocated the other 2 and then poisoned themselves. It would make sense. They were found in 3 different rooms, and apparently the wife and kid died a day before Benoit died. Depending on the poison it could take a day to kill him I guess.

Something I find interesting is that Benoit had 2 other sons that are still alive. If he snapped why would he only kill one son and not the other 2? I know they were from a previous relationship but were they in the house at the time? If they were something isnt adding up.

His two other children were not at the house....I dont think they were even in the same city or anywhere close.

Then as much as I hate the say it, it looks like Benoit killed his wife and son and then himself. It seems to be the theory that makes the most sense. Something made him snap when he was at home, he killed his wife and son and then realized what he did and killed himself. He died a day after the other two and sent a text message to somebody in the WWE before he died according to the news. Im not believing it until the autopsy report confirms it but that is the most likely scenario of events imo.

Its strange, we might have just paid tribute to a murderer.

Re: Wrestler Chris Benoit and family found dead (-mod)

Me and dabomb took this conversation to pm in an attempt to keep this thread purely about the facts instead of speculation and theory but I found something interesting at another board i post out.

From a topic up on the GSB...

Benoit's wife's death was added to Wikipedia at 12:01am this morning (Monday).

    http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?...ldid=140442953

No one else knew the family died until 2:30 PM the same day, 14 and a half hours later. Oddly enough, the IP traces back to Stamford, Connecticut.
Of course it could just be a really big coincidence, but I find that a little bit strange.

    Lucky for them!

I also hope this is not true but it seems like it is. My granson is really into the WWE and this is not the greatest thing for kids to be exposed to.

This is shocking. I haven't really watched wrestling lately, but Benoit was one of the biggest guys in the business the past decade. RIP.

Wow...that really didn't even cross my mind. I thought it was a carbon monoxide leak or something that got them. I guess I'm just an optimist. Either way, it's a terrible story.

I hope it proves to somehow not be the way it is currently being reported. There is only one scenario in my head where I could see him doing it, but I won't post it in the thread as I don't want to start throwing speculations around.

SI is reporting that the deaths are "going to prove to be bizarre".

Details of the deaths "are going to prove a little bizarre" when released to the public, Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Autopsies were scheduled Tuesday by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in DeKalb County.

I know this isn't Vince's fault, but there have been so many premature deaths lately that there are obviously serious issues with the wrestler's lifestyles. Hopefully some changes will be made in regards to the amount of time spent on the road, more stringent drug testing, etc...
