    Chicago boycott of Macy's working

I swear everybody I know has said the same thing.
"I will not step foot in that store again, Fields was Chicago, Macy's is New York"

We want our store back. Bad enough our biggest bank is now CHASE but this one hurt.

Federated admits things are not going well with the name chane in Chicago

CINCINNATI -- The parent company of Macy's acknowledged Friday that its State Street department store, flagship of the former Marshall Field's chain, is "doing badly."

Since replacing the green Field's awnings across the upper Midwest with the Macy's name and red star in September, Federated Department Stores Inc. has been on a mission to win over Chicago-area shoppers, many of whom were attached to the hometown Field's brand and unfamiliar with Macy's.

I think it's just bitterness. I know a hand full of people who refuse to step into Macy's because Fields was their store. Well it really wasn't if it isn't here anymore. I'm biased since I'm East Coast and always liked Macy's, but sometimes I feel Midwesterners have a inferiority complex when it comes to things non-Midwest.

Silly really. I love both Macy's and Fields although I was disappointed that Field's closed in downtown Minneapolis....I stay there quite often for business and loved going to Fields. I look forward to it when I travel. Now it's Macy's and there's one on just about every corner in Connecticut.

    Merry f'ing Christmas

I think it's the whole "Second City" persona. They all know who the "First City" would be, and are jealous of NY.

Boston lost a department store institution in Filene's and somehow the world didn't come screeching to a halt. Things change, that's life.... stores will always come and go.

Just like they are jealous of our team too! The Yankees that is, the one and only N.Y. team!

I will not set foot in Macy's again until they reopen all Bloomingdale's outlets in New Jersey!

The CEO of Federated, Terry Lundgren, was out in Chicago all the time when this first happened. He had meetings with community leaders and really tried to understand what the people of Chicago were feeling in regard to Fields closing. For example, he made sure that their christmas tree or something stayed. They've made every effort in the world to try and accomodate the people of Chicago.

For the CEO of a huge company like FDS to put so much time into listening to people talk about a now-closed department store is incredible. It's hardly like it was a faceless corporation that came in and took over the city.

(Disclosure, my uncle plays golf w/ Terry Lundgren and I've had lunch with him)

I will admit he spent a lot of time with city officials but they all told him the same thing..DON'T DO IT.

The irony here is Field's rip the heart out of Detroit when they renamed Hudson's to Field's.

As a rule people here do not obsess about New York like Bostonians do. We maybe the "third city" now but I have yet to talk to anyone who has visited here and not had a good time.
I will put the retail options of Michigan Ave on a par of anywhere in the US.

As a West Coast Gal(San Francisco), I have visited both C-town and NYC and have had a good time at both cities. I have to say these that the shopping in nyc is the great.
