    Dentists (warning)

Just beware...if you go to a dentist and he/she says you need a lot of expensive work get a second opinion. I went last year and the guy told me I needed like $12,000.00 worth of dental procedures including several crowns (of which insurance would pay only half on most of it). I'd been scared to go to the dentist anyway since my previous experience was not good (started drilling before I was numb).

So I go to this new guy yesterday and he told me he could rebuild the broken fillings (I have 4 broken) and that I need one of those peridontal cleanings (the x-rays showed early stages of peridontal disease). However, I need ZERO crowns. Additionally, the dentist was very personable and explained everything in detail, whereas the other guy had me watch some video and gave few details. He wasn't personable at all.

I'm still nervous about going to the dentist, but the guy made me feel comfortable and I think he'll do a great job. Additonally, the work will cost probably half what the other guy quoted and I now have a primary and secondary dental plan, so my cost will be very minimal.

I had all four of my wisdom teeth out at once and to make it worth, they had to make incisions in my gums over three of them in order to remove them. I received a topical anaesthetic and by the time I got home it wore off. Then I had to wait about 2 hours for my dad to go pick up my pain meds from the pharmacy and another 30-45 minutes for the meds to kick in. I was in the worst pain of my life for 3 hours. I couldn't stand still it hurt so bad.

Point of the story. Make very sure when you leave the dentist's office, you are really well drugged up.

So will I be ok for the game tomorrow?

Going in at 9am. Game is at 7pm.

Ever been to a game while medicated before?
You won't be able to drink alcohol (b/c of the meds) and you probably won't be able to eat (you'll feel like you got punched in the jaw). But if you're okay with just rolling w/ the meds and watching, you'll be fine!

That's my plan. Just sucks I will not be able to cheer to much or counter all the insults from M's fans. I'll bring the meds and sit there.

I don't think you're gonna want to go to the game tomorrow.

Depending on what meds you get it could be ok. My meds knocked the pain out but they didn't knock me out so once I finally got them I was fine. I just couldn't eat anything or drink much. Just make sure you keep your gauze on throughout the day and ice down if the doc tells you too.

You'll just look funny is all.

I'll look like I got into a fight with a M's fan outside!

I'll be heading straight to the drug store right from the dentist office. So the pain killers will be flowing. Wish I had remembered sooner it's Yankee weekend here.

Can bus into the city, so driving is not a factor here.

Just listen to a couple of Nancy Pelosi soundbites... that will numb you to the point of not caring about the pain.
Thanks for the memories, George. You made the Yankees what they are today... Champions!

Unreal! The dentist or anyone else was not at their office today. Either they forgot or I have the wrong Friday, though I'm postive it is. Called the office and got a voice mail saying they were seeing patients M,W, and TH this week.

Now I should be ticked at them for not keeping an appointment, but its hard to get mad about not getting my teeth pulled before the Yanks game.

So I will now be going into Safeco 100% tonight with a sudden burst of energy and can now fully enjoy my beer(s) and sausage!

Looks like you knew something was wrong and glad you got a 2nd opinion.

Aren't crowns usually done for teeth that got a root canal?

Going to one myself tomorrow. Gonna get the remaining wisodm teeth removed and go to the Yankee game tomorrow night in Seattle.

Not necessarily. I have a crown and never had a root canal. My tooth had an old silver filling in it and it acted like a wedge and broke my tooth apart. There wasn't enough tooth to bond or fill, so he made a crown.

About ready to head into the dentist. This is one time, I'd much rather be going to work.

If an opposing fan pisses you off, work the gauze just a little bit and you can have a trail of blood trickle out of the corner of your mouth! It can look freaky if they have no clue you had your wisdom teeth pulled!
