Let's just hope it doesn't turn into a snooze-fest a la the NFL Draft. I really like the 5 minutes for each pick.

Btw for those who don't want to click on the link:

    June 7, 2007, 2pm ET to 6pm ET on ESPN2.

Too bad Yanks have only one pick. With all the sandwich picks they have a long wait between their 1st and 2nd pick.

Interesting. I hope the picks don't slow down too much because of this.

I like when they take a first-rounder who slips to the eighth round because of signability issues, and they give him first-round money anyway....

Now, THAT'S how you use your resource advantage, not by signing old players for too much money.

Hopefully they'll come prepared with some game film of some of these guys. Thats what will make it interesting to watch.

If it's just a lot of stats and yakkin I can get that here with this posse.
    We have enough youth.

Re: Draft to be televised on ESPN2

I watched online last year and they showed alot of hilites and stats. ESPN has struck gold by turning the NFL draft into the event it is now, Mel Kiper and fantasy/mock drafts, etc. Maybe they can do the same for MLB and we are the winners. We follow all year, and get to see our new prospects hilight reels, projections, etc.

Almonte was available last year, but not picked in any round. I see no reason why he'll be picked this year.

I hope not. Locking it would be fine but without this thread and it's descriptive thread title, I would not have known anything about the draft being televised.

Nick Schmidt does not throw mid-90's and neither does Danny Almonte. Almonte isn't even close to mid-90's. Schmidt is more like 88-91 MPH.
Trading Justin Berg was a mistake.

I don't like this at all. You don't need 5 minutes to make a pick. Especially when picks can't be traded. The entire round shouldn't take more than 5 minutes. And it only usually lasts that long, because Tommy Lasorda always gives an overly dramatic selection for the Dogers. Personally, I always enjoyed the lightening round atmosphere of the MLB draft...

I thought that time limit existed before this year. Or are you saying that you didn't agree with it even last year (or before)? (I'm just seeking clarification.)

This is the second year teams will have 5 minutes to make a selection. The 5 minutes is really for the broadcasters/webcasters to talk about the previous selection. I really didn't like it last year. The rapid fire aspect of the MLB draft is unique to the other major sports' drafts, and is what makes it a lot more entertaining...
