    Seattle Ticked at Manny

I'm listening to Michael Kay and Al Leiter on YES right now, and they just mentioned that the majority of the Seattle team was vocally upset last night after Manny watched his 8th inning homer leave the ballpark before deciding to run. Now this is certainly not the first time he's done this, and I can't believe that its anything else but blatant disrespect for the other team. I know that many people like to play the "manny being manny" card, but I don't buy it. Someone in the Seattle dugout times manny, according to Michael Kay, and it took him nearly 7 seconds before he decided to start running. What is everyones take on this? Am I overreacting to think that manny is just a showboating punk or is there merrit to my opinion. I'm really interested to read what people think about this.
Side effects may include naseua, upset stomach, and temporary loss of the strike zone...

He is a show-boating punk, but this isn't new.

And why is this inside the lines?
    Hoping Rivera can pitch forever!

    Fire Thomson now!!!

It's not cool to stare down a home run, but people need to quit taking stuff so personally. That's what's wrong with the world.

If it bothers you so much, throw high and tight.

and FWIW, Manny is a giant tool. He's acted this way his whole career, it doesn't surprise me - just confirms my opinions of his character.

Yes, but the good news is that it'll only be a three-day suspension or something minor like that. Don't worry. You won't be RO'd.

Better yet, if it bothers you so much, don't make stupid pitches that he can deposit into the bullpen.

They should be more ticked off about blowing a five-run lead.

Yep. Just maybe they should be more upset that Manny hit what would prove to be the game winning HR then worry about how long he stands there.

Too bad that the M's took out their anger on Yankee pitching tonight.
Manny posing isn't anything new as he did the same with Proctor and the Yanks up in Fenway last year.

Yea, and then Proctor showed him...oh wait, no, Manny hit another one the next time he faced him. We are truly an intimidating bunch

I think they should all just imitate Manny every time they homer. Especially the 2 arms in the air pointing up part, that would be awesome. Then Manny would try to top them, it could get good

No, because then Plays the Game the Right Way will complain about it, and it will complicate things even more.

A pitcher should throw one behind his head and then admire it for seven seconds.

Well that's smart. Just put everyone on alert before you do it. If they really said that, I wouldn't be surprised if the comm. office warns the M's that suspensions may come down if they do something. They should have kept their mouths shut, which incidentally would make them seem less whiney, and retaliated later if they felt the need.

If there are Mariners in their dugout ready with a stop watch in the 9th inning on a 3-2 pitch, they must be really bored. He did admire it, but it wasn't 7 seconds before he started running.

    Whoopdedoo.

One way to keep Manny from taking 7 seconds to get to first? Get him out. Then there is no problem to begin with.

    Seattle is all talk.

When they pitch to Manny again they will just give him the typical meatball they always do.

No, no... gulags are for communists. The fascists have... work camps.

The problem with attempting to 'retaliate' against Manny is that he sometimes thinks people are throwing at him even when the ball's over the plate!

The mental visualization of this is positively hilarious. Hell, I'd love to see it. I just hope it's a solo shot with the Sox up by 7 runs in the 9th.

Anyone that suggests Manny Ramirez was intentionally disrespecting the Mariners...simply doesn't know Manny. There is actually a reason for the "Manny being Manny" tag.

He often drives his own fans nuts with the boneheaded stuff he does.

He's an eccentric dude...he marches to his own drum. Ortiz has been quoted as saying "Manny is from another planet" and he's his Friend!!!

Manny has been struggling mightily so far this season. My guess is he was pumped up at at an apparent break-out...and his demonstrativeness was taken as disrespect where no disrespect existed. My feeling is that he doesn't think fast enough to have made the decision that his personal celebration might offend someone in those "7 seconds."

Everyone's entitled to their opinions, but Manny is pretty universally acknowledged to be a sort of ummm..."savant."

I think it would be idiotic for Seattle to retaliate. How childish can you get? You want revenge? Win a freakin' game! If they insist on beaning him....what can I say but Bring It!

I like Manny but I think he's far from being the man-child that the media portrays him to be. He milks the Manny being Manny thing for all it's worth. I also don't think watching a HR like that is with the intent of showing disrespect. It's simply arrogance and self-admiration. To intentionally show disrespect would mean he's thinking about someone other than himself and I don't think that's the case.

I don't disagree with you...i don't give much credence to what the media says. I give a great deal of credence to what his teammates say as they spend long hours with the guy. From all I've heard from them...he's no manchild at all...he's just kinda "out there" as if he's perpetually stoned. (Do they test for that??? hehe)

Gimme a break... Seattle was so pissed at Manny they put up 15 runs against NY. That'll teach 'em..
If they want to get back at him for that garbage, just hit him.. Next AB, put him on his back.. Then the next time he hits a HR and admires it, the catcher gets in his face and the pitcher yells at him as well as the rest of the team and then put the next guy on a stretcher.

30 years ago, HIS OWN TEAMMATES, pitchers included would give him hell for doing that because it would put them in jeopardy.

Why are today's teams afraid to set things straight?

The Sox contributed to a Yanks' loss last night? Sweet.

I guess, my point is, and as many others have said, Manny has been doing this for a long time now, and teams don't seem to have a problem with it. Why did the Mariners wait to make a comment until after the game. Why didn't the pithcer from the other night just plant one into Youks back if they were so upset?

Because the league won't allow a pitcher to whack someone without warnings, etc. This is something that MLB needs to back off of because the result is more showboating. Let the players take care of it as they have in the past and it will sort itself out. MLB acts as though pitchers would be practically killing people on the field on a daily basis. Of course, taking the severe inside pitch away from pitchers is inflating offense as well.

    Re: Seattle Ticked at Manny

Thats fine, throw at him, they can expect to have it done to them too. I love Manny, I love his poses, I love him being into it. I love seeing him jump around in the dug out and laugh. And how old are all these people who talk about the "old days" where someone would have apparently tried to kill Manny by putting one in his earhole?
