Sounds like he's got a good head on his shoulders. He'll be back in the Majors once he works out the kinks in his game. He should be in AAA soon.
Wright was promoted to AAA yesterday
Any word who's on their way to Trenton to fill his spot? Kennedy maybe?
I would love to see Kennedy there the way he has been absolutely been tearing up the competition. That would set him up nicely for a possible call up next year. Maybe if that velocity comes creaping back to where it was in college, with his polish, we might have a very good young pitcher on our hands.
speaking of wright in AAA, he got raped tonight
Wow, he gave up 5 runs in 6.2 Innings off 1 hitOriginally Posted by flymick24

I'm inclined to be encouraged from his AAA start.
Wright needs another plus pitch to be MLB ready
His Fastball is decent. His change is just insanely filthy. I'd compare it to Johan's honestly. But its only 2 pitches. He needs to develop a plus curve or slider or something else. Anything that would keep hitters from 2 pitches alone
One of the more stranger lines that you'll ever see. The six walks definitely brings back memories of his past control issues. He should be ok once he gets his feet wet.Originally Posted by Tabata

What kid of velocity does Wright have? It would be great if we could have at least a solid LHP prospect in the upper levels of the minors. He really does need a 3rd pitch though, to keep hitters on their toes. Otherwise, with only 2 pitches, he might be destined for the bullpen.
I checked the Gameday link on MiLBOriginally Posted by NY_GOLDENARMS
Wright walked the first two batters of the 7th, struck out the next two, and then walked the bases loaded - so that's 3 of the 6 walks in the 7th
When he was removed, he was at 105 pitches
As noted, Kozlowski then gave up a single and a double
I think we'd all take the numbers through 6 - 3 walks, 1 hit, 2 runs
Isn't Wright working on a curve to complement his fastball and change?
I think he's going to be just fine...
Unquestionably, he has great stuff. But he needs more time at Double-A before they try to rush him up to Triple-A and/or the big leagues.
I saw him pitch this season for Trenton on Opening Night and he looked great, but he needs time to develop his secondary stuff and not get exposed by more experienced hitters...
He needs to command the strike zone a little better, especially the lower third of the strike zone.
All will be well when Clemens gets his 2 starts at Scranton and gives a 2-week coaching clinic to the young arms.....
I disagree, I think his stuff is remarkably underwhelming. What he needs to do at the AAA level is regain control, specifically of his fastball, and pitch to contact. He certainly has a good changeup, which makes his high-80s/really low 90s fastball seem that much faster. What I saw on the ML level was below average control (too many consecutive balls), and pretty bleh breaking stuff. Once he starts showing solid command of his fastball (to the tune of at least less than 4 BB/9, or preferably in the 2-3 range or lower) I don't think he's ready for the majors.Originally Posted by mashmore
Don't base your opinions of Chase Wright on what you saw in two big league games is all I can really tell you.
The Chase Wright I saw in Trenton was not what I saw with the Yankees...
Chase sounds like a great guy.

Unless he gains some movement and/or velocity on that fastball and his pitches gain a lot more break, I don't think he posseses anything close to great stuff.Originally Posted by mashmore
I don't understand why Chase even allowed himself to be subjected to a horse**** interviews about those HRs. If that's all they wanted to discuss, then forget that.
Chase needs to work on his control, if he can. He certainly has good enough stuff to be a ML starter. Heck, a guy with similar build/stuff (Chuck James) is the Braves' number 3 starter.
i like the chuck james comparison... although james has far better breaking stuff... and it helps that he pitches in the NL
Chase showed a lot of class in agreeing to do this interview IMO. The interview was also intended to gain a perspective on a historic baseball event. It was not meant to disrespect Chase.Originally Posted by jimmykey2
It's obvious that he needs some work, but let's look at the glass as half full here. He's got talent, good makeup and he's a LEFTY. He's 2-1 with a 2.93 in 4 starts at Scranton. Don't rush him. Let him settle in at Scranton and those walk totals will go down.
