    Senators part ways with Yashin

With Alexei Yashin set to become a restricted free agent July 1, the Ottawa Senators finally pulled the plug on the relationship with their star center.

The Senators traded Yashin to the New York Islanders on Saturday in exchange for forward Bill Muckalt, defenseman Zdeno Chara and the No. 2 overall pick in the NHL entry draft.

According to reports, the Senators were entertaining offers from as many as seven teams prior to the draft today and Sunday in Sunrise, Fla.

Yashin, 27, made $3.6 million last year, but was seeking a healthy raise for next season. It's believed he would like close to the $8 million to $10 million per year most of the top players in the NHL are making.

Yashin was booed by fans, at the Corel Centre and at rinks on the road this season for his decision last season not to honor his contract in a bid for a raise or a trade.

He was forced to return and honor the last year of the deal and led the Senators with 40 goals and 48 assists in 82 games.

    Hey Patrick!
We went to the draft party at the Coliseum today! The fan reaction was generally positive, though alot of people felt the Isles gave up too much in Chara People also were worried about Yashin's rep for not trying when he's unhappy. I wonder how he'll deal with giving up his #19 since the Isles are retiring Trottier's number this season-he finally is coming back to the building! It should be interesting to see how it plays out. They also need to address theeeir gola situation- the rumor mill has Kevin Weekes coming back!

The hilight of the afternoon was meeting Bob Nystrom and Charles Wang-they were sitting right near us- They were both very friendly and accomodating to the fans-my son got Nystrom's autograph on his jersey-he was pretty happy-he also got Claude LaPointe, Raffi Torres and Steve Valiquette!
