I dont think the strength and conditioning coaches could control "pops" in phil hughes's knee! other then that, I think the injuries to some of the other players on the team needs to be looked into.

Nope, Karstens had an elbow problem ... and a broken fibula. His hamstrings have been OK, so far.Originally Posted by YankeeStripes

From what I know....the guy he brought in (Marty Miller) had ONE year of experience working in baseball. And it was the minor league level.Originally Posted by Byron

I pulled a Hamstring watching the Yankee Games on TV
Even the name is a joke - performance enhancement coach? It makes it sound like he is pimping viagra or steroids, neither of which I think are necessary for healthy hamstrings. This has gone beyond absurd. No longer comical. And it needs to be taken care of and quick.
Fire CASHMAN, IT`s his fault.
FIRE. HIM. NOW.
Absolutley ridiculous.

Something is definitely up. When a 20 year old has hamstring issues with the severity Hughes has got 'em, there's a problem.
I understand the frustration. But hammys pop. By the same token the guy was pitching a no no. Do you credit what ever workout they did pregame? It's just been a ghastly run of abysmal bad luck.

I just found out now that we had all these new team condition people this year ... PLEASE FIRE THEM NOW OR JUST FIRE CASH WHO HAS BEEN ARGHHHH

Strength and Conditioning is crucial to preventing this. A good program that promotes flexibility can reduce injuries by stretching and strengthening muscles. It's why you see so many NFL players doing yogaOriginally Posted by Bugg

Running in a strength and conditioning regiment? Totally not needed. Let's just throw our pitchers out there without warming up also. It's overrated.
At 1st, I just thought it was one of those things. But if Franchise is really hurt..I'll be slightly angry.

Over the winter, Cashman got rid of Jeff Mangold, the Yanks' strength and conditioning coach for the previous nine seasons, and hired Marty Miller, who served as a minor league trainer for the Expos from 1995-97, to serve in the newly created position of director of performance enhancement.
(...)
"Marty isn't a baseball guy like Mangold was," said one player, speaking on the condition of anonymity. "Marty has been given a lot of pull, and I think he's a little too gung-ho right now."
(...)
"Right off the bat, (Miller has) got a bad rap," said the player, who also called the team's current pregame stretch routine inadequate. "Pitchers and catchers out there not stretching their arms? Their thing is that the active stretch gets everything stretched out, but that's garbage."
Neither Miller nor Cavalea is permitted to speak with reporters, though Miller did an interview last week with the Palm Beach Post, his hometown paper.
"I've been able to come in here and really kind of change this whole department around," Miller told the paper.
(...)
"They've done a phenomenal job making the weight room nice," the player said. "Aesthetically it looks great, but functionally, there's nothing in there. You walk in there and there's four of the same machine and a bunch of empty space. What do you expect us to do in there?"
Read it all. It's amazing.

I don't think Hughes' injury is related to any Conditioning problem, when he pitched that last ball his left leg did a strange move and i got the impression that his left foot got stucked in the mound and the injury happened because of that.

According to several players, Miller's program de-emphasizes running as a way to increase leg strength. He also took away the large rubber bands that Mangold used to help players stretch before games.
Some players have chosen to ignore Miller's methods, believing the lunges and other calisthenics he prescribes are too strenuous.
"We're all out there on the field for stretching. Some guys do it and some guys don't," one player said. "Half the guys are just standing there talking. They do their own thing later. They don't trust (Miller)."

Oh man, I shouldn't have read those. Made me even more angry now.
It's painfully obvious that Brian Cashman wants to re-invent the wheel. He is neither a good evaluator of talent or expert at conditioning. He should stick to what he does best - pencil - pushing.

This is probably the most disconcerting quote. If his methods are crap, he still must make sure they do stretches of some sort. uhhhhh"Half the guys are just standing there talking. They do their own thing later. They don't trust (Miller)."

Cashman broke the old rule that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Last year our conditioning program was just fine. This year it's completely f*cked.
“I mean, people knew that Brown was out there, and that Randy was ornery all the time. And Pavano is whoever he is. But if you’re their manager, you can’t go out and write about them like that.”

Cano was out with a hamstring injury for 6 weeks, I think there was another similar thing too with somebody else. In any case, the year before we had 9 million pitching injuries and were throwing May and Redding (and Small and Chacon and Henn) out there. I dont blame Cashman for trying to improve, but he did a poor job with itOriginally Posted by JeffWeaverFan
If a player is speaking on the condition of anonymity, there must be a lot of unhappiness about what is going on there! They need to listen to their players, they are the one's playing the game.Originally Posted by JeffWeaverFan

Saying to fire cashman or that its his fault for "some" injuries is a knee jerk reaction by fans and many haters pretending to be fans! Sure alot of the players/pitchers have have struck by injuries, but Cashman has done an amazing job by not knee jerking and not reacting to early season losses by panicking and trading away the future of the team because the season is a marathon and not a sprint. I've been a lifelong fan of the yankees and am willing to suffer a few down years with the team if it means a better future and I believe that Brian Cashman is the right guy to provide it. I think
Cashman has a bigger blueprint for the team then I can even imagine!

look at last years injuries then rethink your post! Sometimes sh$t happens and this looks like one of those years! I wouldnt be so quick to blame cashman for it! He's looking to keep homegrown players and build toward the future with ingrown stars! I have no problem with brian cashman!Originally Posted by JeffWeaverFan

I think the team is just doomed this year, let's face it. At least the Sox lost tonight and their closer blew the save.
There is no doubt in my mind that that player was Mike Mussina. What other player would have said:Originally Posted by Octoberbaby

I'm trying to think of what player on the team would have used the word "aesthetically" and the list pretty much starts and ends with Moose.
