What are they talking about? They're making it sound like Pavano is some rookie that Pettitte is taking under his wing.

He's at 7 innings, 2 runs. A great outing. If he gives up a few runs (and he was getting smoked last inning) a few things happen. First, you end up using the more premium bullpen arms in a game you had a big lead in. Second, you end up with a much less gaudy line. And....with a guy who hasn't had a nice pretty line in two years, it DOES mean something. It's nice to think that every player is only concerned with the team winning (and I believe most have that as their primary goal), but human nature is to want to have the flashy numbers.Originally Posted by jbauer2485

Speaking of Andy- does anyone else think Rocket is home getting jealous seeing the shots of Andy and his new BFF Pavano?
Sorry- joke was too easy.

If Jeter played on turf, he'd hit .360 just about every year.
LMAO! Right after that ball in the dirt to Abreu. Jeter didn't take second...some Twins fan yelled out over a mostly hushed stadium... "A-ROD WOULD'VE HAD THAT BASE"...oh how the tables have turned...
bad call Ump
Those negative things can happen, but knowing Joe, we'll be using premium arms even though we're up by 6 runs, so I'd rather see him go out there for 1 more inning.Originally Posted by gold23
You don't see Abreu swing at a pitch like that too often. Bruney coming in.

What is Pavano coming out? He only has 79 pitches. Torre always has to work the bullpen.
The top 3 of the lineup is 8-13, that is production...
this has been a fantastic game.

He seemed so pissed off at strike called on 3-1 . He just gave away 3-2 ball .Originally Posted by Soriambi

Torre using Bruney with a 6 run lead. Errr.
I guess he doesn't have much of a choice.

Just got back from dinner -- Pavano was yanked before he even hit 80 pitches? I know he probably doesn't have the stamina that he will midseason, but c'mon... he's pitching a gem.
EDIT: And no walks!
the espn radar gun is ridiculously high. that was not a 97 mph, and the twin's reliever was not throughing 94, for christ's sake!

Exactly. If they stop trying to score, we should stop taking bases when they're available, but until then, I see no good reason to.Originally Posted by CoyoteYankee

The thing I like most about Pavano's start is that he didn't walk anyone.

thank you arizona for giving up bruney!
FSN North just showed a hilarious shot. Guidry calls Bullpen. Bullpen coach starts pointing towards the end of the bench, and Farnsworth starts hiding behind Proctor, while Proctor laughs and keeps pointing at Farnsy like if to say "He's here! Pick him!"
WELCOME JOE.
After dealing with Pavano's diving and swerving pitches, Bruney's heat must not feel so nice for the Twinkies.

exactly what i was thinking. this doesn't make sense. the bullpen has been overused the first 5 games and pavano was at under 80 pitches. ridiculous.Originally Posted by a yankeesfan

I hate the look of the turf..but I really like to hard, true bounces after a grounder.
i would think torre just wants pavano to build his confidence. 7 great innings - don't let him give up any more ERs. he's being babied.Originally Posted by cid
