I'm sure hoping a 27th World Championship is in the cards for the Yankees.

Thanks Maynerd!! I check baseballreference.com all the time, but I never stumbled upon this part.

Looking at the wins by pitcher list- if Pettitte had been here the last three years, he'd be tied for third all time on the list (and breaking Whitey's record would seem feasible with a few more seasons work). As it stands, Pettitte is going to be making an assault on the list (assuming he stays relatively healthy and pitches both years of his contract). I never realized though how tightly the pitchers were bunched up on the wins list. There are points where every other win will move him up on the list.

    I scrolled past all that.

My kudos referred to the intended topic.

Biggio is closing in on 3000, Sosa on 600, Bonds on 755, Glavine and Randy at 300.
If they ask who was our star, give them twenty five names, and if you forget our names, just tell them we were Yankees.

A-rod is probably the more atheletic of the two, thus a better candidate to play out of position (a position BTW where he has adapted quite nicely). I don't see how taking the Captain of the team and playing him in center field or some other such nonsense helps ANYBODY. A-rod knew what he was getting into, he's a big boy.

Jeter doessn't owe anybody anything - he gives his all every day and that should be plenty for everybody.

I think another milestone the Yankees will have to look forward to will be how many threads on Yankees sites get hijacked by snide remarks that lead to Jeter / Arod debates. I believe it's at infinity and counting.

if everyone had off seasons like a-rod does, we'd be watching a hell of a lot of good players every day.

Joe Torre's got some managerial milestones coming up...
the 27th win this year will be his 2000th (career). He's in 10th place on the all-time list and will certainly move up this season (36 wins will tie Leo Durocher for 9th). He should pass Stengel for 2nd place on the all-time Yankees' list with another 71 wins.

i think 12 years under the boss is quite a milestone.

How about Mo Rivera reaching 450 saves by the end of this season?

    Mike Mussina 250 wins

I remember hearing if Moose get his 250th win, he will be the 1st pitcher to reach 250 wins without a 20+ wins season. I think Moose said this himself during an interview when asked about never having 20+ wins and will that be his goal this season. And he breaks out this interesting stat.

i suspect mo will break 500. i doubt this will be enough to hold the record is very unlikely as hoffman seems to have that one easily. he's not gonna stop in the next couple of years meaning he'll reite with 550.

The real question about Mo is whether or not he makes it to 500 with the Yankees. Will Cashman shell out $13 million a year for a 38 year old closer?

If it's Mo, and if something drastically unexpectedly bad doesn't happen to his abilities, it certainly seems like the answer is yes. I don't see how it could be anything else. The fans, for one thing, would tear him to shreds if he didn't.

I don't think Mo will end up signing somewhere else after this season.

And with his fifth HR this year, JoPo will tie Roger Maris for tenth place on the Yankees' All-Time list.

Cashman will do whatever it takes to keep him. And even if Cashman didn't want to, it's still George's $$ and in this one case I believe George would overrule him.

Can't imagine the fan backlash if Mo was let go. And George wants no part of that.
