Ugueth Urbina sentenced to 14 years in prison

    Ugueth Urbina-R-Phillies Mar. 28 - 12:13 pm et

Former MLB pitcher Ugueth Urbina has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for the attempted murder of five men in Venezuela.
Urbina, a two-time All-Star who last pitched with the Phillies in 2005, was also found guilty of illegal deprivation of liberty and violating a prohibition against taking justice into his own hands during a dispute in October of that year. Urbina allegedly attacked the men with machettes at his family's ranch. Agent Peter Greenberg indicated than an appeal is planned.

I never liked him because he wouldn't turn down his Boom Box or use headphones on a long flight even after Varitek and Wakefield asked him nicely to consider the other guys.

    Plus kissing Pudge was gross

That's pretty crazy, although I was almost sure he was going to have to serve some time. I didn't think 14 years though.

Same here man, I really figured he'd be able to come up with a bribe and get off with the minimum.

Ditto - that one is pricless.

I recall that Urbina first said he knew about it, but the guilty parties were employees of his. Guess he thought his status in the majors would "cut" him some slack with the law. Idiot.

Why wouldn't he think that? OJ's NFL star status got him off.
