First Harang, and now Arroyo...this isn't what I'm used to from my Reds, but I'm excited nonetheless.

That's a long contract, an 18,004 year extension? Is Boras his agent![]()
Now that's a long-term contract.![]()
I'm a little surprised given all his happy talk about wanting to come back to the Red Sox (albeit with no home town discount this time).
On the other hand, Bronson was smart to cash in on his good season last year, though I wonder if he sold himself for short money again.
I guess this will end the talk of him pining to return to the sawx

20011, that seems like a year from a science fiction movie when I was a kid. Man, I'm getting old.

That was such a great contract the Red Sox signed him to. He is a horse who will make under $4 million next year. Too bad the Sox won't be getting the benefits from that contract...............
Nice move by the Reds, with Harang, Arroyo, and Homer Bailey on the way their pitching isn't looking to bad.
Alex Rodriguez
Career OPS: .965
Postseason OPS: .977
Now when does he get traded? Spring training again?
LOL, I got so excited I added an extra 0!
Now I'm really confused.

20011? 2001? 2011? What Is Going On Here!?!??!??!?!
Okay, I edited it to say 2011, which it does on my original post, but in the topic it says 2001??????
His pitching stats will be applied retroactively.
Don't look down here.
So this works out to a 2/25 extension?
Mo' Nut: One Smoove Brotha.
Jaret Wright's 2005 Cy Young Season: 20-3, 3.04 ERA
Crazy. It seemed like he couldn't win after the break. I think hitters must have started sitting on the slow curve.
Or from the Reds' perspective, a 4/33 deal from now until 2010 which I think is pretty good considering the market.Originally Posted by Snatch Catch

He had a rough stretch in July and August and the conventional wisdom was that the league had adjusted and caught up to him. Then he went 4-2 with a 2.45 ERA and a WHIP under 1.00 in 7 starts in September/October.Originally Posted by whiffle

Usually the reason a team agrees to an extension this far from free agency is because they're getting a bit of a discount, but whether Arroyo is leaving any money on the table here depends on whether you think the FA pitching market is going to be as insane in two years as it was this year.Originally Posted by Snatch Catch

2007: $4.125 million
2008: $3.95 million
New extension
2009: $9.5 million + $2.5 million signing bonus
2010: $11 million
2011: $11 million team option or $2 million buyout (option value can increase to $13 million based on IP)

Interesting. I just never understood his success. He seems to try to snap the curve off without much control over location... other than the angle that it's falling through the strike zone; (the kind of pitch you used to run up on and knock over the bushes back in the day).Originally Posted by Prickly Pete
I like the addition of Saarloos too.

I think the Red Sox are paying some of that small salary as well.Originally Posted by In Mo I Trust
Good for Bronson, this pitching market is insanely overpriced.

And they didn't have to.
