No Alberto Gonzalez?

Clippard got the invite; it's not just Yankee fans who are high on him.

How far off is Marcos Vechionacci? I've heard his name for years and remember his outstanding glove from last year's ST. Is it completely out of the question that he becomes a utility infield option if Cairo goes down this year?

I am particularly interested in seeing Ohlendorf. I have a good feeling about him. Why are they inviting that Hughes guy? Heard he's a bum.![]()

Spring Training invites automatically mean we're calling him a "utility infielder?"Originally Posted by shroud

Of course not, but the poster who brought him up suggested he be used as one if Cairo was unable.Originally Posted by TheYankee

The current 40 man roster, per Abraham:
http://www.lohud.com/blogs/lohudyankees.html
Pitchers (22): T.J. Beam, Colter Bean, Chris Britton, Brian Bruney, Matt DeSalvo, Kyle Farnsworth, Sean Henn, Kei Igawa, Jeff Karstens, Jeff Kennard, Mike Mussina, Mike Myers, Carl Pavano, Andy Pettitte, Scott Proctor, Darrell Rasner, Mariano Rivera, Humberto Sanchez, Jose Veras, Luis Vizcaino, Chien-Ming Wang, Chase Wright.
Catchers (2): Wil Nieves, Jose Posada.
Infielders (9): Robinson Cano, Jason Giambi, Alberto Gonzalez, Derek Jeter, Doug Mientkiewicz, Juan Miranda, Josh Phelps, Andy Phillips, Alex Rodriguez.
Outfielders (7): Bobby Abreu, Melky Cabrera, Johnny Damon, Hideki Matsui, Kevin Reese, Bronson Sardinha, Kevin Thompson.
That's 40. Josh Phelps is a Rule 5 draft pick, meaning the Yankees have to keep him on the 25-man roster all season or offer him back to Baltimore.

I find it really odd, J.B. Cox isn't on it...
Calmer than you are.
I wonder if they'll give Gonzalez a lot of p/t in spring training, supposedly they were getting calls about trades for him before the trade was even finalized.
Oh Lord, I missed that part... you're more than right.Originally Posted by yanksphan
Colter Bean has a roster spot?
Per our friends at PP.com's boards, Colter Bean really is on the 40 Man Roster (even though he was DFA'ed...which makes little sense to me). That news also makes me want to cry, as Colter Bean has little going for him other than a cool name.
Cox might not be invited to ST because of the fact that the Yanks have already seen what he's got and instead want to see what the new guys (Whelan, Ohlendorf, etc.) have closer up.
A person who writes for PP.com said that he's recently talked to JB Cox and Cox told him that he was healthy and had no problems to report. So, we all don't have to worry about it being injury related.
So they don't want to see how Cox has developed but want to see more from Bean?Originally Posted by MattUNC2003

Like I said, the fact that Colter Bean is apparently on the 40 man over Cox makes me want to cry.Originally Posted by JavyVazquezIsSick
Unless this is all one giant typo by MLB.com and instead of JB Cox on the 40 man, they incorrectly put Colter Bean on it.
There is no reason for Cox to be on the 40 man.
wow, cox actually talked to someone? i'm impressed
he's notorious for not giving out interviews, autographs, etc
IMO, there's no reason Bean should be either. So, if I'm chosing who to put on it, I'd pick Cox over Bean.Originally Posted by BomberBrian

Nice to see Tabata there, I'm sure Abreu will show him the ropes a little. I wonder what JoPo, Giambi and A-Rod will say about Hughes this year.
No offense, but can you possibly change your signature? It's just a little bit jinxy.Originally Posted by Bernie51Williams

Hughes, never touches alcohol and is married at 20...doesn't look like he wants to live the life of a rockstar.Originally Posted by CallOfTheCrow
Bad for him, good for the yankees.

I've also heard that about Hughes and its great. Especially for a pitcher with recovery being so important.Originally Posted by CallOfTheCrow
I assume he's out of options, but I don't think he's arbitration eligible. At any rate, it seems unlikely Phillips has any major league future in pinstripes.Originally Posted by stephsamps

He says:
Cox: Has a "holier-then-thou" superiority complex
Gardner & T-Clipp: Extremely spontaneous, energetic, & funny as all hell
Reegie: Very shy
Hopefully I'll have pictures to post this season with me in them cause I've seen some with my buddy & these guys hanging out.![]()
