    2007 Returning Teams Signup

Football is over if you live in NY, and Spring Training is right around the corner....so let's get busy and see who is coming back for 2007.

As last year, payments can be made to my Pay Pal account, and the league fee is still a cheap $25. When you officially reply as returning, I will send you an invoice for the fee. Anyone interested in an expansion team can make that known here, too.

2007 League Teams (in order of finish):

    1) Bitches Brew FEES PAID
    2) New York Knights FEES PAID
    3) GDN (in place of Evil Empire) FEES PAID
    4) Kings of Arbitration FEES PAID
    5) Sycamore Style FEES PAID
    6) The Corporation FEES PAID
    6) MetsMagic not returning
    8) Raging Bulls not returning
    9) GHR714 FEES PAID
    10) The A-Team v.2007 FEES PAID
    11) Striking Back FEES PAID
    12) HollisHomerunHittaz not returning

Despite poor performance last year, The Corporation is set to issue their first IPO this season. I am officially in.

If there is an empty spot, I nominate Panamaniac.... he'll be a good, active owner.

Can we please not have the auction at 1) 10pm and 2) on a Friday night? During the day on Sat or Sun would be perfect, as these things normally last hours.

Well, hopefully I will be able to pre-draft everyone's keepers this year, so things will go much faster. Days are tough; for people with kids it's usually the only time they get to spend real time with them. I already have one auction during the day that my wife is pissed about. But we will try to work out a time good for everybody.

    Re: 2007 Returning Teams Signup

Okay, after alot of thought about this I had to make a tough decision. I'm going to have to reneg on my returning. I apologize.... problem is I am in 4 leagues this year (this would make 5) and I'm running one of them. I do not have the ambition to prepare for all of them while trying to schedule in 5 drafts. I also am not overly excited about this style of FBB. I tried it for two years and the amount of preparation it takes, just not worth it since I don't enjoy it as much.

I hope there's interest with someone taking over, I know I have a decent competitive team and some really good keepers. I'm really sorry guys, I had to choose one league. I'm not leaving the other NYYFans league and my other 3 are for money.

    Re: 2007 Returning Teams Signup

The main problem for me is that I work until midnight on the weekends and until 6p on weeknights (2 different jobs).

I am willing to stay up late to draft, and we also have to factor in any west-coasters who likely need to start the draft around 8 or 9p EST. My personal preference is for a weeknight starting around 8 with all the players pre-loaded (maybe we can even change the length of the timer) I would hope the draft would only take about 4 hours.

    2am maybe....

But that was without pre-loading keepers. With more time this year, I can do that, and with say, 12 teams, averaging 9 keepers (the range allowed is 7 to 12), almost 40% of the players could be pre-selected. That should move things along very nicely.

Two of the people I contacted this week have said they are not returning. I am still waiting to hear from Mets Magic.

We have 8 which is really a minimum for a league, and I will try to get expansion teams.

I'd like to join in place of one of these teams if that's at all possible.

I didn't see a waiting list thread for this league so I figured I'd post that here.

As soon as two more people pay, I can renew the league for next year, and if before Feb 8th, we get a trophy for free, like last year.

    Re: 2007 Returning Teams Signup

    It is an auction league.

Instead of a draft, we bid on players with dollar amounts. Every team starts with a $260 budget for their $25 entry fee. During the auction, you can bid on any player at any time, in $1 increments. If you are the last bidder, you win the player. You can therefore end up with Pujols, A-Rod and Santana on your roster, unlike in a drafting league, if you spend enough money.

It is a rotisserie league, meaning we rank teams by the 5x5 categories (BA, HR, SB, Runs, RBI; W, Saves, ERA, WHIP, K's). The top team in each category gets one point for each team in the league, and it goes down from there. So in a 12-team league, the top team gets 12 points, the second team gets 11, etc...team with the most total points in the league wins the trophy. There is no other prize.

It's a keeper league, too. Teams keep 7-12 players a year at a cost of $4 more per year kept. So a $10 player signed to a 3-year deal would cost $22 a year, each year. (Not $14, $18, $22)

Expansion/Replacement teams will get keepers, too, based on the teams not returning. For replacement teams, I will assign each team to an existing franchise.

I've also set up a new thread for this information...

Instead of a serpentine draft that most people are used to:

    Round 1:
    Team A
    Team B
    Team C
    Team D
    Team E
    Team F
    Team G
    Team H

    Round 2:
    Team H
    Team G
    Team F
    Team E
    Team D
    Team C
    Team B
    Team A

This is an auction...one person throws out a name, then everyone bids on him. Bidding goes until nobody is left bidding; high bid wins the player. Then another person throws out a player, and it goes again. You have a budget of $260 to spend on 23 active players.

You usually don't get the person you throw out; someone else can beat your bid. But on the other hand, the first year of this league, I had Soriano, Manny Ramirez, and Carl Crawford -- three first round picks in any regular draft, all on my roster because I was willing to spend the bucks.

Once the rosters are set, it's a standard 5x5 rotisserie league.

It's all about spending as much cash as you can right out of the gates.

Yes, it's a keeper league. New teams will take over old. You must keep 7-12 players.

Players can be kept one time only, at their same salary, but then can't be kept again.

    OR

Players can be kept for 2, 3 or 4 years -- but their salary increases by $4 for each year of the deal. So if you have John Smith at $1, and he becomes a huge closer for the Braves, you might want to lock him up for 4 years -- his salary for EACH of the next four years is $17 a year. (NOT 5/9/13/17). It's a 4-year, $68 contract -- really, 3 years is the most you'd sign someone, simply because of how quickly the contract grows.

    You want in?

Wait, I don't get that. If his salary is $1, how does it jump...oh, it jumps by $4 a year times 4 years.

Sure, I'll give it a shot. I don't promise much, though.

I am probably too late, but is there room for another team?
