Post anything related to baseball. If it doesn't fit in the Yankees Discussion forum, it fits here.
Since there have been a couple queries about message boards for other teams in the past couple days, I thought it might be useful to have some sort of list of good fan sites around the MLB.
My goal is to have only two or three sites per team--it's not meant to include every forum out there. I also prefer to post forum sites over blogs, although if a blog has a game thread or is really, really good, I'll include it. Thanks for all the suggestions!
The following announcement is specific for the Yankees, but tickets to all MLB games, in additon to all other sporting, concert, or show events are also available. Check out http://tickets.nyyfans.com to see if we have tickets to the event you're looking for.
So you want to see the Yankees, ay? Are you frustrated by the lack of quality seats available from the Yankees Box Office or Ticketmaster, don't want to take out a second mortgage to buy...
Please see this thread for details: http://forums.nyyfans.com/showthread.php?p=5924926#post5924926. :)
Obviously anyone can open as many threads as they like, but I thought it might be easier if there was one thread where anyone could go who wanted to discuss all things Red Sox (conversation/updates/injuries/other news, etc ) -- this way there wouldn't be so many cross-over Schilling and pitching conversations going on at once in separate threads..it would also keep ATM from having 6 different Sox discussions which can bury threads on other teams. Hope it helps. :)
Okay, having said all that...
Last year's thread was quite a success, and although it was made much later in the year I thought it would be a good idea to start a new one.
I am sure many of us will be paying attention the Mets this year, and they are playing Detroit today to open up their year (NYM is up 2-0).
Feel free to discuss the Sox here.
Allow me to start: Pedroia takes the feed from Team USA teammate Jeter and throws to Youk to complete 6-4-3 DP....cool or sickening?!
All are invited to discuss Sox-related news items here. Please keep it civil.
New thread created because of the excessive space its predecessor took up. Please discuss Sox-related news here.
Update on the payroll, which is being tracked and updated here: http://forums.nyyfans.com/showthread.php?t=100446
Yanks are at 176.11 and the Sox are at 155.06. Yanks have 22 players signed, the Sox are at 29. Obviously the Sox will have to trim the roster a bit to get set for opening day, and obviously the Yankees will add 3 more players between now and then, even if it's just promoting some minor leaguers. Either way, it's amazing how close these two teams have gotten payroll wise,...
<!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->My wife and I got a couple of standing-room tix to one of the Sox/Mets games at Fenway at the end of June. Anyone ever attend a game at Fenway with standing-room tickets? I'm just wondering if you had positive/negative experiences. Thanks! :)
I'm guessing they'll finally win this one. How does a team lose 5 of 6 to KC?
Say, can we go back to "Our first two starters are better than your first two"?
According to hitting coach Ron Jackson, Mark Loretta (not Kevin Youkilis) may be the one getting first crack at hitting leadoff for the Red Sox.
(Link. Scroll down near the bottom.)
Really dumb idea, if you ask me. Not that Loretta is a horrible choice for leadoff (about the same OBP as Damon last year, IIRC), but Youkilis is such a better idea that it isn't funny.
As an Oriole fan, this has been a tough year. But I am greatly encouraged by the statement that Peter Angelos put out yesterday. Here is the link and a couple of paragraphs, but it is worth reading the full article.
I am glad Mr. Angelos has spoken out and promised a bright future, and this was definitely needed at this time in the history of the Baltimore Orioles.
Have at it.
For starters, stud prospect Matt Wieters hit his first homer today.
I decided to start a Mets thread because there have been a collection of smaller Mets threads in ATM and I think it would be best if we just had a larger thread to cover all things Mets.
Two things about them strike me today...
1. Pelfry looked pretty good last night.
2. I have a feeling the Mets fans across the nation are beginning to sweat a little bit because right now the Braves are mashing.
Ok. Go ahead, start discussing.
I think both of us are going to be playing past Sunday...
Another year, another watching the scoreboard thread.
Strasburg's apparently going to start for the Nationals on Tuesday.
Welcome back. Please continue.
The pools for the World Baseball Classic are here:
Pool A (Venue: Japan): Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China
Pool B (Venue: USA): USA, Canada, Mexico, South Africa
Pool C (Venue: Puerto Rico): Puerto Rico, Cuba, Panama, Netherlands
Pool D (Venue: USA): Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Australia, Italy
People seem to like it in JC, so we'll see how this goes in here. We'll start with this.
Again, picking my Mets in a rout. 4-1. I just don't like this Cardinals team. The lineup gives me no confidence outside of that big guy at first base, the rotation is bad outside of Carpenter (who won't start until game 3), and the bullpen is awful.
Brackets are set and Rosters are being formulated:
China, Chinese Taipei, Japan, Korea
Australia, Cuba, Mexico, South Africa
Bid expected to be in the high $30 million range.
2005 World Series starts tonight at 8:00 pm.
The Houston Astros make their first appearance ever in the Fall Classic after 44 years.
The Chicago White Sox return for the first time since 1959. The last time they won was in 1917. Thanks to the AL winning the All-Star Game, the White Sox have home-field advatage.
The matchups for the first four games are tentatively set as:
Roger Clemens(Hou) vs. Jose Contreras(CWS)
Andy Pettite (Hou) vs. Mark Buehrle (CWS)
Usually when my team gets knocked out of the playoffs I can't wait for the team that beat them to lose. However this year I am fully behind the Cleveland Indians. Not just because I don't want the Red Sox to win, but watching this team for 4 games showed me how much they want the title and have the talent to get it. Plus it'd be nice to say the Yankees lost to the eventual champions.
And so Sox fans can STFU.
Well, soon enough we'll all be agonizing over who to start/bench and add/drop. I already have to start thinking about a draft next month so here is this year's thread.
I have to decide on my 5 keepers soon. It's a simple keeper league, no worries about where the keepers were drafted, no limit on years kept, etc. Here are the only 8 from my team that would even be considered (
