My reading tastes are wide including almost everything, but I just finished three books that fans might be interested in. I got all through Amazon.com 1. 1947; When All Hell Broke Loose in Baseball. By Red Barber. This book was first published in 1983 but is still interesting and it revived many memories for me. Since Red broadcast the Dodgers that year the text mostly focuses on them but it does give a lot of print to the Yankees including their 19 game winning streak and the 1947...

Belle has not taken batting practice on the field since April 27 in Chicago, preferring to hit in indoor batting...
Over the long haul,I think the most undervalued Yankee is Bernie Williams. He is turning out to be an excellent player and keeps on improving. He chases down balls in center field with the very best and his avg.is always .300 or better;look at his RBI's and homerun totals. What do you think?

For the record, the Yanks are my first and only love. The Giants ... well, we're Just Friends. My National League team, y'know? Now that the Giants have figured out how to win at home, the baseball is REALLY stirring here at the City by the Bay. After starting the season 4-11, San Francisco went 14-3 and is in second place. Somebody must have told the starting pitchers that they were ... well, starting pitchers because they've kept their team in the game until the offense (not just Barry...

When I was younger, there was no need to even discuss this topic. Baseball was the top sport. Football was OK during the winter. Basketball was a distant third. Hockey was an also ran with soccer nonexistant, Lacrosse played in the Ivy schools and golf and tennis being played for recreation but hardly followed by the average sports fan. Today there is much more focus on other sports and the number of sports has proliferated. What are your opinions as to the top five sports from a...
Snuffy Stirnweiss of our Bronx Bombers won the AL batting title by less than a thousandth of a point back in 1945. He hit .30854 to .30845 by Tony Cuccinello of the Chicago White Sox. Now how about this? Cuccinello, after missing the batting title by the narrowest margin in the history of baseball, was released by the Chisox and NEVER again played in the major leagues. Man, that's really hardcore. 26 in '00 "Odd fart to a mean Moron."
Baldwin tosses 3-hitter to shut down Red Sox, moves to 6-0 May 9, 2000 SportsLine.com wire reports BOSTON -- James Baldwin demonstrated his importance to the Chicago White Sox by shutting out Boston on Tuesday night, and when he returned to his locker he saw that the effort was appreciated. "The stopper with class. Book it," someone had written on a photo of Baldwin and taped above his locker in Fenway Park's visiting clubhouse.
Sweeeeeeeeet....Rocker is getting what he deserves! I believe this is the first time since 1993(according to my local paper) that a balk resulted in a winning run in the NL. What about the AL?
Juiced Balls, juiced batters, smaller parks, expansion, low mound, less quality pitchers, shrinking strike zone, or the evolution of batters has exceeded the evolution of batters... what is it? Why have there been such an alarmingly high, (for baseball purists) number of homeruns thus far in 2000... Why does it seem like every stadium is as small as camdens “closet” yards w/ air as thin as coors field...
Today in Baseball History May 9, 2000 A Bench-mark performance Johnny Bench was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1989 -- his first year on the ballot. On this date in 1973, Johnny Bench of the Cincinnati Reds slugged three home runs and had seven RBI in a 9-7 defeat of Steve Carlton and the Phillies. It was the second time Bench had hit three home runs in a game against Carlton; the first came on July 26, 1970.

BOSTON (AP) -- Pedro Martinez struck out 17, but his 13-game winning streak ended Saturday when Greg Vaughn's RBI single in the eighth inning gave the Tampa Bay Devil Rays a 1-0 win over Martinez and the Red Sox. Martinez fanned six batters through two innings and had 12 strikeouts after five. The 17 strikeouts were the most in the majors this season matching a personal best; he fanned 17 Yankees in a one-hitter last Sept. 10. He struck out Miguel Cairo to start the eighth for No. 16,...
I'm sure we are all aware that this seems to be the 'year of the home run." John Sterling mentioned that yesterday before the game (before the one Mo lost) he talked at lenght to Mariano about what did he think, if anything, was different about this year's baseballs--did he buy the idea that they were different. His reply--absolutely. He said the covering of the ball is much slicker, almost no texture to it at all and the stiching is lower than ever, to the point it almost cannot be felt. ...
Today in Baseball History May 8, 2000 A memorable Memorial blast Frank Robinson later managed the Orioles, guiding them to a surprise second-place finish in 1989. I was just wondering if a pitcher has only thrown three pitches for an entire inning(three ground balls for each batter) Who did that? And whats the record for a complete game w/the fewest pitches?
A couple of years ago, my brother and I were having a discussion about the Babe. And as we were talking we realized just how many teams could make some sort of claim/connection to him. We got to thinking so much that we decided to write it all down, and my brother got the idea that maybe we should post it on the forum. So here is our "Great Debate". Major League Baseball is engaged in an argument. The teams can't decide who exactly holds claim to the greatest baseball player of all time...
