Post anything related to baseball. If it doesn't fit in the Yankees Discussion forum, it fits here.
At Jim's suggestion, I would like to explore your thoughts about the current state of haves and have nots in Baseball. It appears if a club's payroll is not at least $60 MM they have no post season hopes. Should anything be done? What? Orangemom, I know you have thoughts on this. Let's explore this topic. I know that you here can discuss this without getting angry about other's viewpoints and we all can learn from other's perspectives. Comments? A39??
Maybe you guys can help me with this one: If a guy steps up to the plate, and, say, he disputes a 2nd strike and the ump throws him out of the game. If the person who comes in to finish his at bat takes the next pitch for a strike, does he who made the third strike get credited with the strikeout? I say yes, but it just doesn't seem fair.
Reds tie for 1st place with Cards after slow start at 22-16; 8-2 in last 10 games.
Mac Ties Mantle for HRs THE ASSOCIATED PRESS ark McGwire homered in his first two at-bats, tying Mickey Mantle for eighth place on the career list with 536, and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Los Angeles Dodgers, 12-10, yesterday. Craig Paquette and Jim Edmonds also homered for St. Louis, and Eric Karros (two), Gary Sheffield and Todd Hundley connected for the Dodgers as the teams combined for a Busch Stadium record eight homers. I hate to see The Mick fall another slot on the...
If a pitcher is throwing a perfect game and the 24th batter lines out to the pitcher and the out is recorded. After the play the pitcher is taken out due to a sprained finger due to his last catch. Say a reliever comes in and finishes it off. it is still a perfect game, but who is crediting with the perfect game?
How many RBI's did Babe Ruth have in the 26th season? Do not go and look it up! Please I wanna know how many people know this!
I know we all want a subways series. With the jerk Henderson gone, I truly do feel that the Mets will pull through and somehowe come back and take over the first place Braves. it seems liek a long shot, but I beleive that the Mets have the pride to do it. the Braves are good but I feel that the Mets are better.
It looks like Ricky will not be polluting our clubhouse. May 17, 2000 Source: Seattle Picks Up Henderson Filed at 10:27 p.m. EDT By The Associated Press
This Homer crap is/has been getting nuts, don't ya think? I was listening to ESPN radio a couple days ago, and it was stated that in the entire history of the Astrodome, the RECORD for combined Home Runs in a game was SIX. In the 2ND game at Houston's new park, there were EIGHT homers. ALSO, in the first NINETY years of Major League Baseball, there have been only two (2) shortstops who have had a game where they hit 3 home runs: Ernie Banks & (no crap) Fred Patek. Since 1991, NINE...
I'm curious on what are the MLB draft rules for players in the Independent Pro Baseball League. Questions: 1. Say a player is drafted by Pittsburgh, but doesn't want to join their system. Can the player go play in the independent league then become a free agent? My guess is Pittsburgh has rights to the player for X years. If so how many years? 2. Say a player doesn't expose themselves to MLB draft, instead plays in the independent league. Can the player become a free agent to play...
Just wondering about Bucky Dent and where he is now. Can anyone help? Thanks.
How many Triple Plays have the Yanks completed in the 1996 1998 and 1999 Seasons?
My adopted team is falling apaprt any ideas as to what to pray for to help them reach the top? hehehe
I was asked this question by a co-worker today and I'm not sure what the correct answer is. If a player leaves the field completely(jumps the fence/rail) to make a catch on a foul or HR ball in the stands, is the batter out? I've never seen this happen so I assume that the ball would be considered out of play. Thanks
This is probably an easy one,but it's the only one i can think of now,What ex Yankee han 3000 hits and 400 hr's?
Hey, I'm part of this Yankee mailing list and one of the articles I found this article very interesting: CONEY MAKES A POINT The 2000 baseballs may or may not be juiced, but they clearly are not well-made, David Cone told reporters Thursday afternoon. The veteran right-hander took a ball from a nearby locker in the Yankees clubhouse and displayed how unusually inconsistent this year's stock has been. The ball featured some seams that were frayed and others that were too thin, and had...
Yanks Are a Monopoly By Steve Zipay. STAFF WRITER Gimme the ball, kid. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200 from The Boss. Guess it was only a matter of time. A designer of specialty games has merged two American institutions: Monopoly and the Bronx Bombers. In the New York Yankees Collector's Edition, which goes on sale this week, Babe Ruth replaces Park Place, and 12 other legends are represented on the board. Instead of the four railroads, there are three bases and home plate. The...
hey mr. unit, meet my BIGGER EXPOS!!!! from cnn/si: Can't win 'em all Vazquez outduels Johnson, Expos blank Diamondbacks Posted: Wednesday May 17, 2000 02:27 AM MONTREAL (AP) -- Randy Johnson finally lost, and the team he started with beat him.
Today in Baseball History May 14, 2000 Big Train steams along Walter Johnson started his Major League career in 1907. On this day in 1913, Washington's Walter Johnson gave up a run in the fourth inning against the St. Louis Browns, ending his streak of 56 scoreless innings. The Senators won 10-5. It was a Major League record that stood for 55 years.
56 In A Row For Joltin' Joe, July 16, 1941 By Michael Adler and Nathan Hale "Then it ended, and the strange thing about that is that the game in which he was stopped, the one in which he failed, is far more famous than the game before it in which he reached the now almost sacred figure of fifty-six." -- Robert Creamer By July 16, The Streak had become routine. Only 15,000 fans showed up at League Park to see Joe DiMaggio extend his record hitting streak to 56 games with a first-inning...
This story reminds me of how I began a great friendship with BronxKeed: May 15, 2000 2:56 PM AP CLEVELAND (AP) Thirteen-year-old Michael Hirschbeck quickly slipped on his Cleveland Indians' bat boy uniform and went looking for his friend, Roberto Alomar.
Here's an entertaining article from the Boston Globe. If this is the stuff they write, I can understand why those chowderheads get their hopes up every year. Anything to sell a paper. :D Men of position By Michael Holley, Globe Staff, 5/15/2000 BALTIMORE - It's early. Do you realize how often you will hear that today? People who have pinstripes coursing through their veins and ''NY'' stitched on their baseball caps will tell you how early it is. You will hear it from worriers,...
What Yankee player had 3-30 plus hr seasons?
What Yankee ace submarine pitcher was responsible for the only fatality in major league history? What Yank shortstop holds the #3 spot for consecutive games played after Cal Ripkin Jr. and Lou Gehrig? What Highlander ace still holds the record for the American Leagues best ever season of 41 - 12? Good luck.
The Bucs have put together a small run, and are now in third place in the NL central, 3.5 back of the Cards. They're two games under .500 with a three game set at Cincinnati coming up this week, followed by a home set against the Cards. If they stay hot, they can close ground on both of them. Brian GIles is hitting .341 with 13HRs & 38 RBIs. He's got my vote for all-star outfielder (along with Abreu & Vlad Guerrero). Jason Kendall is hitting .320, and stealing bases as if he'd never...
