Forum: Around The Majors

Post anything related to baseball. If it doesn't fit in the Yankees Discussion forum, it fits here.

  1. Sticky Thread Sticky: Message Boards for Other Teams: A List

Since there have been a couple queries about message boards for other teams in the past couple days, I thought it might be useful to have some sort of list of good fan sites around the MLB. My goal is to have only two or three sites per team--it's not meant to include every forum out there. I also prefer to post forum sites over blogs, although if a blog has a game thread or is really, really good, I'll include it. Thanks for all the suggestions! AL East Yankees -...

  1. The New York Mets Thread

I decided to start a Mets thread because there have been a collection of smaller Mets threads in ATM and I think it would be best if we just had a larger thread to cover all things Mets. Two things about them strike me today... 1. Pelfry looked pretty good last night. 2. I have a feeling the Mets fans across the nation are beginning to sweat a little bit because right now the Braves are mashing. Ok. Go ahead, start discussing.

  2. The Minnesota Twins Thread

I apologize for increasing the number of individual team threads here, but I feel like the Twins shouldn't be left out of the mix. Seen as underdogs in a division with names like Sabathia, Carmona, Verlander, Willis, and Buehrle, they were pretty much counted out as soon as Santana was dealt away. However, all is not lost. Following acceptable outings by veteran Livan Hernandez and Boof Bonser, phenom Francisco Liriano threw four innings of no-hit ball against the Orioles just now. I guess...

  5. Baseball vs. Football....Time to change the national pastime?

Football is absolutely destroying baseball in terms of popularity. Only the die hard fans will pay attention to baseball over the next month, and the playoffs have been taking a beating for a number of years. Putting your postseason on TBS is basically admitting defeat. How can baseball regain some of its popularity? - Leave the season at 162. (I'd like 150, but hey) - All-Star game is based off a complete season and happens AFTER the WS. The league that wins gets some sort of...

  6. Coach says Mariners were told of Josh Lueke's criminal past

The Mariners knew all about Josh Lueke's 96-mph fastball when they acquired him from the Texas Rangers in the Cliff Lee deal. But Mariners executives insisted they knew nothing before the July 9 trade about the 25-year-old minor leaguer facing felony charges in a rape and sodomy case in which he later pleaded no contest to a lesser charge. However, new information appears to contradict the Mariners' original version of events. Former Mariners pitching coach Rick Adair said he told general...

  7. The Baltimore Orioles Thread (merged)

As an Oriole fan, this has been a tough year. But I am greatly encouraged by the statement that Peter Angelos put out yesterday. Here is the link and a couple of paragraphs, but it is worth reading the full article. I am glad Mr. Angelos has spoken out and promised a bright future, and this was definitely needed at this time in the history of the Baltimore Orioles. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20050928&content_id=1228076&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb ...

  9. Tampa Bay Rays Thread

Let me make this abundantly crystal clear: First, the Devil Rays will not will the American League Eastern Division, or be the wild card team, or move out from the cellar. From my experience living in Florida and watching the Florida Marlins accumulate talent from 1998 to 2007, I can notice when a team is heading in the right direction. The Devil Eggs, oops Devil Rays have begun the process of making good choices: trading for Kazmir holding onto Carl Crawford and Rocco Baldelli...

  14. The 2010 LA Dodgers Thread

Great offense, good bullen, spottiest starting pitching of any contender in baseball. Padilla has looked much better in his past two starts, but they desperately need Kershaw, Billingsley, and Kuroda to be consistently legit.

  18. The Blue Jays Thread

Figured at 23-16 the Blue Jays could use a thread. I am pretty surprised they are doing this well considering their team ERA is 9th in the AL and their team batting avg is 12th (but 2nd in AL with Rays in runs scored). What do people expect them to finish? I kinda figured they would get around 75 wins but now I'm starting to wonder....
