Who's coming up? Who's going down? What's happening with the Yankees Minor League clubs?
How come nobody has mentioned that De Paula made his major league debut on Friday and shutout the hot hitting Sox for the final two innings. This is very good news. Quit focusing on Henson folks. He is no longer a top prospect and their are other guys who have just been called up and have a future with this team. Michel Hernandez also made his ML debut yesterday catching the 9th and drawing a walk. I hope he gets every opportunity to be Posada's backup next year.
Battle Creek's season ended Sunday as they were swept in the best 2 out of 3 by Lansing. In game 1, John Skaggs was battered in 2.2 innings for 6 runs on an 11-4 rout. IN game 2, T.J. Beam pitched 7 strong innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits, walking 1 and fanning 5, but BC could muster no offense in a 4-0 rout. All in all, a very successful season for BC as several players shined and continued to develop. 1b Jayson Drobiak was the team leader, with 30 hrs and 86 rbis and a 293 average, although...
I would appreciate any news of progress on Brandon Weedon......thanks.
After getting off to a really slow start in the GCL, Duncan, as you know, picked it up and eventually earned a call-up to Staten Island. His combined numbers through 61 games: 239 AB, 35 R, 72 H, 12 2B, 6 3B, 4 HR, 41 RBI, 20 BB, 44 Ks, 1 SB. Very solid. Since most baseball fans think in terms of 162, here's what the numbers would look like with an additional 100 games tacked on: 655 AB, 93 R, 191 H, 45 2B, 16 3B, 11 HR, 109 RBI, 53 BB, 117 Ks.
Henson Joins Yanks, Won't Forget Football 20 minutes ago By MIKE FITZPATRICK, AP Sports Writer http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20030906/ap_on_sp_ba_ne/bba_yankees_henson_2 NEW YORK - Wearing pinstripes and a Yankees cap while sitting in the New York dugout, Drew Henson sure looked like a baseball player. He just didn't sound ready to rule out a future in football. Called up from the minors, the former Michigan quarterback joined the Yankees before Friday...
Anyone have a clue who the PTBNL is?I'm not expecting a world beater but I'm just curious.
(Team Web site) YANKEES SWEEP WIZARDS Battle Creek right-hander Ray Clark tamed the Fort Wayne Wizards and the Yankees posted a 5-0 victory Thursday night to win the Midwest League Eastern Division first-round series. The Yankees swept the best-of-three series by taking the first two games, and will meet Lansing for the Eastern Division championship. That second-round series will start Saturday night at Oldsmobile Park in Lansing. Clark, who posted an 8-7 record during the regular...
The Yanks did well to get some decent value in the late season deals for Sterling Hitchcock, Jesse Orosco, Raul Mondesi and Robin Ventura, considering they couldn't expect much in return for those guys. SI's Ken Rosenthal wrote in his latest column that he thinks the Yanks may have gotten a steal in rhp Scott Proctor in the Ventura deal. He's been clocked at 100mph in Columbus and was 2-0 with a 1.42 ERA in 10 appearances. He walked only 3 and struck out 26. Bubba Crosby was hitting 316 for...
Minor League Notebook- Yankee HS Drafts -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anup Sinha TeamOneBaseball.com Staff While a lot was made by the media about how more teams would draft collegians early, the Yankees went the other way last June. After years of college-oriented drafts, Scouting Director Lin Garrett switched gears in 2003 and took three high school players in the first three rounds (1st-round 3B Eric Duncan, 2nd-round OF Tim Battle,...
I just heard a blurb on ESPN that Henson has decided that this is his last year in baseball and will go back into football?? Anybody else hear it? I was channel surfing and missed the whole report by Mortensen or whover does the NFL reports...
I'm not really sure when this was awarded, but this paragraph was in a NY Post piece today. Congrats to Seguignol. GM Brian Cashman was sure the Yankees would promote Triple-A catcher Michel Hernandez tomorrow when the rosters expand, but wasn't sure how many other players from Columbus will join the team. International League MVP Fernando Seguignol is getting consideration. "He had a heckuva year and I had a GM call this week asking about him," Cashman said of the first baseman. ...
BC YANKEES WIN GAME ONE (team web site) Eric Verbyrke ripped an RBI double with one out in the eighth inning to snap a 2-2 tie and send the Battle Creek Yankees past the Fort Wayne Wizards 3-2 Wednesday night at C.O. Brown Stadium in the opener of the first round of the Midwest League Eastern Division playoffs. The two teams will continue the best-of-three playoff series Thursday night, and Friday night if necessary, at Fort Wayne. Battle Creek finished the regular season on a 17-3 tear...
He appeared in 91 games this year for Tampa AA.
What a hollow draft we have .I know this is sour grapes after not signing 2 guys I wanted signed but our draft meaning baseball is such a waste of time and effort.Drafted players hold teams over a barrell evey year with the threat of not signing and throw the bonus scale out of whack and not to mention the money and time teams spend on scouting these players.I say that you should have to declare your self eligible for the draft to be in it and stop the non sence.Teams that drafts you holds...
http://www.njo.com/thunder/times/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/1062317111288570.xml Navarro injured in Thunder sweep Sunday, August 31, 2003 By JOHN NALBONE BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - With the Eastern League playoffs and a chance at finishing above .500 safely beyond the Thunder's slippery grasp, the last thing this Trenton club needed with four games left in the regular season was more bad news. Catcher Dioner Navarro, the Thunder's leading hitter and a solid bet to be crowned the No. 1 prospect...
This guy has 30 homers for battle creek. But on the negative side he is already 24 yrs old and still in single A. Too bad he isn't 21 or he would be a major prospect
This was another of the Yanks international signings this past winter. After struggling for a while in high A ball Tampa, he has suddenly shot up the ladder quickly. He was promoted to Double A, where he was 1-1 witha 1.69 ERA in 4 appearnces, 3 of them starts. Last night he made his forst appearance with Columbus and pitched a scoreless inning. Anyone have a scouting report on this guy?
Since July 1st, Drew Henson is hitting .275/.332/.484 (avg/obp/slg) since July 1st. He's picked up the habit of stealing bases lately and he's walking more, striking out less, and 58% of his hits have gone for extra bases. I think this is a substantial enough sample size to note that a change has been made in his game, I think he is letting his natural ability, especially his power, take over. Hopefully he is turning the corner.
So is his last name officially Tejada instead of Tejeda now? Does anyone have any news on this in terms of maybe an age change or something? Thanks in advance.
Common George do it please!! Sign Bard and Purcey so we don't have to hear "I told you so!"Re build this system that was ranked last week 2nd to last.We wasted all that money on Ziele and so many others.Make the smart investment in the future with these 2 studs.I go to SI games and with the bad record this year sales are down some.Common this guys will re coup some of there own contract with a good season.Don't let those West coast fair weather baseball teams out do us.SIGN BARD AND PURCEY...

Louisville at home tonite in a battle for first place. Details on www.minorleaguebaseball.com/
Battle Creek (MWL) has clinched a playoff spot. Of course, the MWL has a system in which first place teams and second place teams from both halves of the season making the postseason. BC will finish second in the second half. ******* Columbus (IL) remains one half game out of the playoffs off last night's victory. They trail Ottawa by 1/2 game for the wildcard, with Scranton/WB a half game behind Columbus. Columbus is also alive for their division title, trailing Loiusville by 1.5 games.
The Gulf Coast Rookie League season ended this past Sunday. A brief summary on how some of the new kids performed in their first taste of professional ball and with wooden bats: 1st round pick Eric Duncan obviously sticks out as having the most successful debut. He hit 278 with 12 doubles, 2 hrs and 28rbis in 47 games before being promoted to Staten Island, where he has gotten off to a very hot start. His defense has been shaky though, as he made 10 errors at 3b, but that will improve. ...
He has been promoted to Staten Island and is scheduled to make his debut tonight. The game is on YES but has been in a rain delay. They are taking the tarp off now so it looks like they may start soon.
