I vote for "chunky". I love the color and the look!
Me, too!! I love the color and and chunkiness!
Doooo it!!! ;)
Vicki, definitely going for the chunky highlights. My friend just did them in blonde and they came out great (though she works at a salon and pretty much gets everything for close to free).
As for tipping, my salon has an 18% rule and they won't let you write checks for more than 18% more than what the cost of whatever you're doing is. And the woman who does my hair owns the salon and I still tip -- I always have and I never heard that you were supposed to do otherwise.

Love it! That's how my hair used to come out, more or less, when I went to the expensive place. Now it's kind of one of those red shades.

OK, ladies, I'm going to ask a kinda Brad-esque question, so forgive me in advance.
I know we discussed the new high-efficiency washing machines before. If I bought HE detergent and have a regular low-efficiency machine, do you think I should add more detergent when doing the wash?
Sowwie! I know I'm an idiot at times!

I wouldn't. I really don't think it takes all that much detergent to get our clothes clean, high efficiency or not. Unless you and JP are rolling around in mud, I wouldn't worry about it. And if you are, good for you!

That's not idiotic Ally..who can keep up? they have high end efficiency, then they started making all the detergents 2x as strong to use less - I'm getting confused as hell. :D I think Trish is right though -- you're probably okay not increasing it and seeing what happens. :)

I just have to say that I usually love being a girl and never wanted to be a guy...but today, I feel yucky -- it's like someone took a vacuum and sucked the life out of me...I couldn't even get my butt out of bed to exercise this morning got another hour and a half of sleep and I still feel like a zombie...half allergies/half monthly friend just arriving. Ugh. :(
Right now I'm at my desk dreaming of being in bed...
Jeanne, we all have days like that. Hopefully we have less of them than more.
Hope you're feeling better soon. :)

Hi Ladies
Can you believe April is over.
My daughter got a new phone last month, and we got unlimited texting -- but I found out via the $400 phone bill that pictures and downloads don't qualify -- how can a person do 3120 picture/texts in one month??
Luckily a nice lady at Verizon Wireless talked me down, and adjusted the bill and added the unlimited picture/texts. Who knew. She's only 14, but I can feel the change in the wind.....I hope I make it through the teen years without being placed in some sort of institution, be it a penal colony or asylum.
Next up semi-formal for 8th grade (when did that start) any ideas about a dress for a plus size teen??
Everything she likes is too small, anything that fits is "OL ish" (Old Lady ish...) One she said, "Mom even you wouldn't wear that.
Wish me luck.

Good luck with the whole cell phone fiasco.....My daughter's texting is out of control...way out of control. I don't even look at the bills anymore. Last time I checked it was 4,500 messages sent 4,000 some received. Absolutely INSANE.
I was a plus size teenager with a small sized mother....I HATED shopping.

My kids (and I :o ) are out of control with texting. Thousands and thousands.
I had the opposite problem with my daughters when shopping for 8th grade graduation dresses. They were extremely skinny and couldn't fit into adult sizes. I had a hell of a time finding something for the both of them.

Deb Shop (Juniors sizes) was always where we found nice (inexpensive) dresses for Shannen at that age. Everything in that store runs small and they have some really nice stuff. They also have a plus size section.

Here is the link for juniors' formal dresses at Target.com. On the left, you can further narrow it down by size. :)

About texting...we all have unlimited texting (now that Shannen and I have Blackberries, we have to have the unlimited data plan for internet and GPS and stuff like that), but even at 13, Nick is a master texter.

It was formal gowns we were having problems with. Very few size 0 or 1. I think I ended up having to pay to have something tailored.

Yeah, here too. She won't buy dresses at Deb anymore because too many people shop there and there's too big of a chance someone will have the same dress.
Maybe it's not uncommon, but the girls going to the prom started a Facebook group with pics of their gowns so no one would duplicate dresses.

Paiglee I am currently plus size and back when I was larger before I shopped online via Size Appeal and Torrid and they had some formal dresses as I recall. Torrid especially is geared towards the youngin's.
Torrid's "formal" section:http://www.torrid.com/torrid/store/nodePage.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302039102&bmUID=1241133180893&SELECTION%3C%3Etheme=Default Also--they have B&M stores.

Ladies! I hate to say this but I think "Hair" was better than "WSS."
One of my roommates used to listen to the "Hair" soundtrack a lot; I'd forgotten how much I love those songs. The cast was amazing--some of the the voices gave me chills. During a few songs the cast would come into the audience--including up in the mezzanine where we were. We were on the aisle and one of the girls rubbed the bf's beard. During the song "Hair" Berger stood right in front of us straddling the bannister and seats. :ga-ga:
Oh, and at the end audience members were invited to come up onto the stage and dance/sing during the finale.
I'm smitten! :)

That sounds like so much fun Danielle! When I was at theater camp, I got to be in "Hair" once and I loved it. Such a fun musical (though some of it is sad as well). What ending did they use (you can spoiler tag it, but the show itself has like 3 different endings -- the original, the 80's revival, and the movie ending)?

I've only seen the movie--it's not the movie ending....
Claude comes out in his army uniform. The tribe is stricken...starts singing "The Flesh Failures/Let the Sunshine In" in a group in front of Claude. They move away and he is lying on an American flag.
Yeah, that's pretty much the standard show ending (but not the ending in the original book). I randomly decided to watch the movie one night On-Demand last year since I had never seen it and was totally freaked by that ending since I wasn't expecting it at all (but the entire second half of the movie was completely different from the play anyway).

Sounds awesome! I have never seen the play OR the movie but I love the music from it!
Danielle, glad to hear Hair was so good. I loved the movie, but have never seen the play.

We went to Charley O's. :( Junior's had a line out the door!
And, FWIW, the bf thinks WSS was better.

Hi Ladies
8th grade formal update.
We found a great dress at David's Bridals. It is strapless, chiffon, white and magenta floral print, bubble bottom skirt. Very flattering, fits her great, and it was half price.
I can't find a good picture of it on line. They have all kinds of sizes, and some really cute stuff in the cocktail/prom section.
Now on to the shoes.......

Excellent! :) At least the dress has white in it, so you can hopefully get white shoes and not have to bother having shoes dyed.

OK, ladies. am I crazy or is this crazy? A friend of ours is getting married. Her shower was this past Saturday - typical restaurant shower, although it was a huge party - she's inviting 350 people to the wedding, so there was probably around 100+ at the shower.
Well, today I got an invitation to the bachelorette party. Now, I know the new thing is to have a big bachelorette party with all the friends and then go someplace with the bridal party. No problemo, right? This is an all-day party meeting for brunch and then getting a bus to the wineries out east, and the cost is $70 including food and transportation, but excluding the winery tours, which, looking at the websites, is going to be at least another $50. WTF?!? My bridesmaids probably didn't spend that much taking me out for my bachelorette party, and that included drugs! I'm going to talk to some of the other girls and see who's going, but I was startled, to say the least - most of our friends just do dinner and a bar/club for the "everyone" party.
Sorry for the long post, but if anyone stayed awake through it, is this normal?

Sorry Ally but the part about the drugs is funny!!!!
That does seem a little excessive for a bachelorette party. I mean, it sounds nice and all but too much. Every bachelorette party I've been to was, yeah, just dinner and going to a club or bar.

Ally, I hope your bridal party sponsored your nose candy as a pre-nuptial gesture. (I'm just assuming the drug since it's white and carries out the virginal bridal theme.)

Ally - Are you in the wedding party?? Whatever happened to dinner and chippendales??, at the most.
The winery tour sounds kind of OLish (old lady ish, as my daughter says). With these new wedding extravaganzas, there are so many "events".
Weddings are crazy these days. I think everyone watches too much Bridezilla and those Platinum Wedding.
One of my husband's sisters is a florist and she has a wedding coming up where the flower budget is $10,000!!
Now, I love flowers, but.....

I don't like male strippers either - they don't look like real men to me.
We had amateur strippers - my bridesmaid Stephanie just went up to guys we knew in the bars and told them that it was my bachelorette party and they should drop trou for me, which surprisingly (or maybe not), many did!
The next night my sister-in-law came to town and we took her out to the same bars, where several guys informed JP that his fiancee had seen their naked tushy the night before. Thank heaven he's the way he is or it could have been a problem, but he just laughed!
And yes, I was a bad bad girl at one time, but I've calmed down somewhat.

Totally agree. Never liked strippers. And good god we went to an amateur male revue once in a club in Philly. I don't think I ever laughed so hard in my life.

My idea of a great bachelorette party is a trip to Yankee Stadium, although with the prices now, that would be expensive, too :D

My sister and her friend hired a stripper for my bridal shower. Of course, I was mortified being the center of attention with a half naked guy in front of my mother and her older friends. But lemme tell ya, those older ladies (in their late 60's/early 70's) were the first ones scrounging for their dollar bills. :roflmao:

Same with me...they always smell of either baby oil or baby powder..then they try to hit on you for real afterwards, and it's like ugh - get away. :D
We usually do the bar thing and we have a list of things the bride has to do -- for ex my friend was marrying a bald guy and we made her ask a bald guy if she could kiss the top of his head (more funny because he was with a girl :D)..had to do a body shot off someone..ask a guy for their underwear, ask a guy to dance, serenade a guy...all stuff like that...all harmless fun. :D For some reason, this usually takes place in Hoboken probably because it's easy to go from bar to bar.
Ally - I'd definitley skip that one...way too involved and expensive (and doesn't even sound fun. :D) sounds like they are trying to compete with the guys...

This may be true but (excluding the new and trendy bridal showers) men don't have to pony up for quite as much as women for a wedding. Men have to rent a tux, pay for a bachelor party and give a wedding gift.
Women have to help pay for the shower, buy a shower gift, help pay for the bachelorette party, buy a dress, buy shoes, get hair/makeup done. It's much more expensive for women so to ask for even more with the an over-the-top bachelorette party is over-the-top in my opinion.
As for male strippers -- definitely don't turn me on but surely good for a laugh, especially if the bride-to-be gets all embarrassed!

Seriously, it IS ridiculous. One of my closest friends is getting married in a month, and she's had FIVE bridal showers -- I'm one of the bridesmaids and I've been invited to every single one.
I only went to one and I only got her one shower gift. We're both 23 years old, and I work making $10.50 an hour while also finishing off a graduate degree. I don't have the time or the money to attend five showers (only one of which was in town, the other four were all a 2+ hour drive away, which makes it an all day event by the time you drive, attend the shower and drive back). Plus, everything on her registry for the wedding itself was pretty much upwards of $100. Probably it would have been a good idea, given the amount of current college/graduate students and recent graduates in entry level jobs on their guest list, to have a few more gift options in the <$100 range. I have already spent over $600 on this wedding between my bridesmaids dress, the wedding gift, travel for the shower and to help her go dress shopping, and the one shower gift I got. I should never have agreed to be a bridesmaid, it's too damn expensive!!
I cannot wait for this wedding to be over so that I do not have to deal with any more friends wedding planning. It's not a lot of fun for someone who spent four years of college playing the part of their seventh wheel.

I agree. I find it funny, not sexy. We got a stripper for my best friend's bachelorette party a few years ago in Atlantic City. I was laughing so hard I was crying. The guy had a nice body but a total butter face. He looked like he was in his 40's! It was funny because we actually tricked her into thinking it was the manager coming to tell us we were being too loud because he looked so old!

The cost is pretty crazy. I have been in 5 weddings and have probably spent close to $1000 on each. If I don't get married any time soon I think all my friends should just give me at least $500 each.
Edit: I loved the episode of Sex and the City where Carrie said she was marrying herself and set up a registry for shoes!

I'm sorry but that is out of control! I hope she is not a real bridezilla who gets mad if you don't go to every shower and event. Bleh.
She hasn't gotten mad yet, fortunately. There is some of her that I think understands that this is ridiculous, but then someone else says "Hey, we want to throw a shower for you!" and she says okay... At some point I think she needs to learn to say no because it's too hard for those of us who are her friends to continue to be wrapped up in all of this (especially given how poorly she and her fiance procrastinated on actual wedding plans, etc. -- that's another whole story/vent!)

Arghhh...let the PMS commence!!!:-po'd-:
I really find my sister annoying sometimes. Preface: I usually order nice flowers to send to my mom for MD but since they weren't home this year, I didn't; but they've always been *my* gift to my mom since my sis/BIL/niece insist on doing their own thing.
Anyway...my parents arrived late last night and since it was MD--and to welcome them back--I got an inexpensive bouquet of tulips @ the Acme to bring with...$8 after tax. I casually mentioned I was going to do this to my sister yesterday and she said "oh, I will split it with you and can you tell her they are from me too?" I said fine. She just called me and wanted to make sure I told our mom the flowers were from her too and TBH, I forgot and told her so. She's all pissed at me...I mean, I'm sorry and all and told her so but if she was that concerned about getting something for our mom she could have ordered something herself. It was freaking MIDNIGHT, I was tired, and my parents were yammering away it was not the first thing I was thinking of..."Oh! They are from Tanya too!" I guess I'm a b!tch. :(
Danielle, I don't think you're a bitch for not mentioning the flowers were from your sister, too. She could have just as easily picked something up herself.

Thanks you guys. I will add that every year they either forget to send her a card/gift for her Bday/MD/Hanukkah and this does bother our mom a bit. :( I bet anything they did not send a MD card at ALL yet.
In the conversation she also struck a nerve with me by talking somehat cattily about their neighbors who don't have kids--how they don't have anything in common with them, no one else they know really wants to befriend them since everyone else in their circle has kids blah blah blah which *I* hear as "I am so much better than you since I am married and have a child...." (that's me being being a raging PMSer)
Maybe in the future I can just offer to do a joint gift with them. That's what the bf does with his sisters for most occasions with their mom.

I don't know - sometimes group gifts are good but it would bother me if they just wanted to do it because they were too lazy to thing of/buy/take the time to buy their own gift but maybe that's just me being a bitch. ;) :D
This year my mom needed and wanted a new grill so we decided to do a group gift which we don't normally do..she did not want the super expensive kind that we had picked out and didn't want us spending a lot on her now that she's doing well financially again with her new house...so we split the grill and I just hid a bunch of money yesterday because she insisted on buying everything for the bbq and party. :)

that's really sad Danielle. :( It's sad that she feels that venom to say that and sad that your mom kind of set you guys up for that..I know from experience unfortunately - my mom used to talk about me as if I wasn't there growing up as her "gifted one". Not only did it put pressure on me to try to be perfect, but it did a number on both my sisters and one of my brothers...luckily we know now that we are older, that my mom didn't mean to cause those hard feelings, but she did..luckily we've talked it out and are really close now and got past it..if we didn't though, those types of things would keep coming up unfortunately. :(
can you talk to her about that? about how that comment made you feel and where it stems from?
Aw, Danielle :(.
I'm really close with my sister. We pick at each other constantly, but that's more of a family dynamic than anything else (a few times we've gone out with our parents and with our other friends and they're sometimes weirded out by the fact that we all talk constantly and bicker back and forth. But it's funny ).

Sisters. I know a lot about it. My sister and I were never close until our mother was sick and we were taking care of her.
There is always an element of jealousy with sisters that I don't think ever go away. I always felt that my mother liked her better because they had a lot in common and did a lot of things together. She always thought my mother liked me better because I was more well behaved kid and she thought my mother encouraged me to do more with my life. It's a weird relationship. She's like my best friend but there is still competition there even with our mother gone.
I'm betting your sister says those things sometimes because she feels inferior in some ways.
Even after all that, it's great to have a sister, isn't it?
Maybe I'm in the minority. My sister is my best friend but there are absolutely no jealousy issues or any other kind of issues. Maybe because she's 6 years older than I am, who knows.

The one directly after me is nearly 4 1/2 years younger than I am. And the youngest is almost 6 1/2 years younger than the 3rd is. I'm not super close to any of them, but we all get along fine. :)

PI missed this in all the sister talk. If this is their first trip to NYC, I assume you would want to see the "big sights" CityPass is a great deal. (Skip the Empire State Building unless they really feel like they have to go. The lines are just painful. Hours long at times.)
http://www.citypass.com/city/ny.html?id=XR3iKHdK
But I would set aside time for Central Park and Times Square. And if it's a typical crazy hot July day in NYC, take a towel or two with you so you can cool off in the playground water fountains in the park.

Sisters--Mine is 20 months younger than me and we are very close, never fought growing up. Of course that may have been a defense solidarity against our older two brothers, I don't know. But my kids bicker and are unkind to each other a lot, and it really, really bothers me.

Trish, I agree with the general consensus that most sisters get closer as they grow up. My sister and I didn't really get along until we were both in High School and a friend of mine didn't start getting along with her sister until her sister was in college (they have a 5+ year age difference, though).

Terri - you must be so proud of your daughter! That is great! And happy to have her home! :)
My sister is two years younger than me and we had to share a room basically her whole life - we didn't get along until I was out of the house and she got older, and now she's my best friend. My brother is four years younger than my sister and we get along ok - he has his own ways (or his wife has her own ways), so there's sometimes some tension, but all in all, the three of us get along well. But it didn't happen until we were in our 20's.
I'm not so sure my daughters will ever come out of this. The older is intensely jealous of the younger...the younger resents the older for all the chaos she causes. Among other things.
I really wish she had the grades to go away to college, because we all need a break. Including her.

My brothers and my sister and I used to fight all the time -- heck, my brothers still don't get along and they're 24 and 19!
My sister and I, who are four years apart, really didn't become friends until recently, when we both were on our way out of the house. And still, I keep thinking, if we didn't grow up together, I doubt we'd even be friends, because we're just such radically different people.

Actually we're getting close...we may be putting an offer very soon on a house we both like. Like, tomorrow! Our realtor knows we favor one and the agent selling it has been stalking her about since we looked at it not even a week ago. The sellers are very motivated and are willing to negotiate. It's priced pretty low too b/c they want a quick sale as they've purchased another home already.... so we're seeing three for the 2nd time today with my parents.
However, I'm having a lot of anxiety about some of the legal stuff....:(

From the looks of things, we're going to be sort of neighbors too which is cool! :) I think I'll be very close to your book store if all works out! Let us know what your parents say! :)
One of the ones I'm looking at the person is relocating - I saw it a few weeks ago and thought it was overprices but they dropped it over $20,000 since then..and there are a few others in the same range. The one I really want is one that got pulled off the market back in October -- I sort of know them through my sister though and they've had their baby now and may be putting it back up..so before I do anything else, I'll be checking in with them. :)

Good luck to both of you - that would be great! :cheer:

My parents were not as happy about the Elvis house as I was (the bf had to work late so did not attend the event). My dad noticed how some of the siding was crappily installed and coming off near the doors and windows. Also, he made a valid point about how the half-bath is almost not *in* the house--you have to exit the kitchen and walk through the garage to get to it (it's in the laundry/mud room). Then! (And this is what killed it for me) it is four houses off a busy street with some factories etc, gas stations, and there are train tracks running there with no noise buffers. A freight train came through while we were leaving the house and it was SO.EFFING.LOUD. I mean, I knew the tracks were there and we are not far from them where we are now but there are lots of buildings and trees muting the noise. However, it's the lowest priced-house and the one we felt sort of under pressure to make an offer on since the agent was stalking our agent...
My parents *loved* a house we looked at about three weeks ago that was our "2nd" house. It is spotless, well-maintained and very cute...my only hesitation was then that it's on a sort of busier street--it's not a state or county road or anything but it is a street lots of people take to cut through town since a big Catholic church & school are nearby. But the bf and I had loved it at the time and talked about where we would put our furniture and stuff. It needs a few little updates but nothing major....there is a little bit of old-fashioned-ness to the house since it's an older couple who have owned it for 40 years. It has two full baths--but one is in the basement, which *is* finished.
Anyway, the bf ran into our realtor earlier at the car wash so he is going with her to look at house #2 again tomorrow morning. We may be waiting a week or so now to make an offer since house 2 has been on the market a long time with no serious offers and is priced a little higher--and our realtor is going to be out of town for a week. But she's friendly with the seller (who is also a realtor herself) and is going to try to feel out how negotiable they may be...
Sorry this is so long but I needed to talk it out.

You can ask the seller to fix the siding before the sale. If they are desparate to sell then they should either do that or take some money of the accepted price for you to have it done.
As for the train, it depends on how loud it is. I lived in an apartment right next to a train before and after about a week I didn't even notice it. If it's shaking the walls through then that might be a problem.
I hope you pick what you like and are comfortable with because this will be your home! Good luck!

Sorry it didn't go that well Danielle :( but that's why you took them and it's good that they were honest. I looked at new townhomes that were being put up and saw that they had a railroad track right behind it that was still in use and didn't even bother pursuing them after that...there seems to be some layout issues as well...
I would try to visit house number 2 at all different times of the day and see how bad the traffic is...
And you said you were feeling pressured to make an offer -- Please don't ever feel pressure - this is one of the most important and largest purchases of your life -- that would turn me off if someone was trying to pressure me. The one that I'm seeing tomorrow where they just dropped the price a lot because the person was relocating -- they called when we were on our way to see if we were still coming, that they had an offer already, and were we interested etc but I didn't look as seriously because of that and that was either BS or it fell through..I'm already leery of their agent.
I would keep looking too..more things are coming on the market daily and also prices are falling and ones that weren't in my price range are coming into it...maybe neither of these is right? :dunno:
hang in there - you'll find the right place. :)

My house is a half-block from the train tracks and I didn't notice them when we were looking at the house or when we were fixing it up - the first night we moved in, the walls were shaking and I was like WTF?!? Now I don't even know they're there. Then again, my house has a view of the Cross Island Parkway, and it's also sometimes in a flight path, so I'm probably not the best person to ask.

The train station is about 4 miles from my house and the only thing I hear is the whistle when the train is leaving or coming in. I love that sound. :)
I live on a cut-through street too and it's extremely aggravating especially when there are tons of kids playing outside and assholes come screaming down the street to get to their destination faster. Get the F off my street goddammit. :argh:

Take your time - you'll find something that works for you both - and remember - it's for you two - not your parents ;) .

I, too, have a train station less than a mile from my house - some nights it's louder than others, but I have grown to love the sound of the train itself and the whistle. It calms me. It doesn't shake the walls, though.

Danielle, sorry the house hunt didn't go so well. But, don't rush into anything. There are tons of houses on the market and a good time to buy, so keep looking. You could regret it if you settle.
Some things can be overlooked if the house is what you want in other ways, but there sounds like a lot of negatives on both houses.

I don't have allergies, but I've heard it's been bad for people who suffer.
Have you ever used a neti pot? The doctor on the morning news on Fox talked about it. She said it can really help people with allergies, or sinus problems in general. I bought one for my daughter today because she has a terrible cold. She hasn't tried it yet.

My allergies have been awful. My sinuses are so messed up right now - I might be close to an infection. It has worked it's way down to my chest, too. Ugh. Im not a pretty sight at the moment.
Karen - let me know how the Neti Pot goes. A coworkers wife uses one and he says it's been fabulous. It kinda weirds me out. But if it really works, I need to step it up and try it. I had one in my hands at Whole Foods a couple weeks ago, but put it down.

Thanks for all the comments on the house-hunting. Yeah we are going to take our time deciding I think....probably not until we get back from Charlotte next week. We really should make a list of pluses and minuses of each house.
Ally, I had a friend in college who lived near LGA. When I'd talk to her on the phone when she was home she'd have to say "hold on a sec" while planes flew over her house since it was so loud!
My allergies have been really horrible lately. Bleh. And I think I shared my neti pot story in here last year. When I used it, I stood at the wrong angle over my sink so water backed up my eustaschian tube into my ear and ended up causing an infection, rupturing my eardrum etc. My hearing has never been the same out of my right ear.:(

I think I leaned to the side too much--but I really don't remember exactly. I'd really love to try the neti again but am too scared. I have a couple of friends, though, who love their netis!
I've had really terrible allergies too. Today was so bad that I stayed home from work; definitely edging on a sinus infection. This year is definitely the worst in a while and the pollen has been all over the place.
Yuck.

We are going to NYC for a weekend this July. I haven't been to NYC since the first George Bush was president.
So what's hot, great eats, good street vendors, etc.

pI wish I had some good advice, Paiglee, but I've only been to NYC once. I definitely recommend seeing a Broadway show. We loved Phantom, but there are lots of good ones. We also visited the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, and I really enjoyed that. I love historical places, though. I'm sure others will recommend museums and such. We didn't get to see much of Central Park, but we loved what we did see. And, of course, I recommend Yankee Stadium! :D

Paiglee, I really wish I could help you. I remember when my friends and I used to take the PATH in and from what I remember there is a giant H&M and Forever 21 and Victoria's Secret in that area, so that could be fun for a bit of shopping; though not really special since you can pretty much to go all of those stores in the mall.
If you want to get a great dessert, go to Serendipity (http://www.serendipity3.com/) for some of their Frozen Hot Chocolate. I wouldn't recommend dinner, since it's only average and the lines are crazy (you can't make a reservation), but it's definitely worth it.

Hi Paiglee -- I'm not a NYC expert either but fashion crazy 15 year olds -- have you thought about taking them to the village to do some shopping? We used to love going there in our late teens when we were old enough to walk around and do some shopping ...

Another good place to take teenagers, especially if they like shopping, is Canal Street in Chinatown. Much cheaper than the village, and they have lots of jewelry and fashion knockoffs, particularly handbags. There is a Chinese department store there called Pearl River that has some very interesting things.

Some of those food cart vendors have better food than restaurants.
Seriously. I love it. Totally worth the wait.

New York actually has a competition for street food vendors - "The Vendy Awards"
Here is a video about the 5 finalists from the 2007 awards. One of them is in Astoria:)

I just had my hair highlighted and it's too light. I don't know if I'm going to get used to it or not. I'm getting it cut on Wed so if I change my mind I might ask them to fix it. ugh...it's practically blonde for God's sake.

It's almost summer, so you can afford to try something a little lighter at this time of the year; I'm sure it looks fine.
This reminds me, I have to make an appointment. My roots look awful.

Seriously, that sucks and I hear ya (remember my pink highlights?)...but maybe you will get used to it...and it *is* hair and it does grow. Or they should fix it if it's not what you want.

Hi ladies -- Thanks for all the tips.
I love gyro -- so we're there - I also cannot wait to go to a real deli again. The Canal Street sounds great and the Pearl -- wonderful - thanks again. We will be there only the weekend, I am trying to rustle up the troops to go out to the Stadium, I think the Yanks are playing the Tigers, if they(my family) don't cooperate - I may go alone and splurge and plunk my more than ample butt into one of those ultra seats!!

I can't wait to get back to NY this Summer, I'll be in town on business and have to go to a game by myself, but it'll be worth it :)

Give a shout to the ladies crew when you are going to the game. One or more of us may be there and you won't have to watch alone!
