Man I had to read that like 5 times. I thought she said she saw the Phantom's penis.
Wow...imagine that. That would then be number four on my list. :D
Yeah I was like "why is her slimey and bloody daughter there in all of this"
jlw1980

That so sucks about the game.
So true about Phantom. There has been three things that have truly rocked and floored me in my lifetime. One was the first time I saw my daughter (even though she was slimey and bloody) the second was the first time I saw a penis and the third was the first time I saw Phantom. I've seen it three times and would see it again in a heartbeat.
I can understand the first one and even the third one. As for the second one, that really "rocked and floored" you?

So here's a question:
I'm looking at getting engaged, it's still probably about ten months away, but I know when I want to do it, and where. It will be a surprise, but I really have no doubt that I am going to get a yes. The ring, is what worries me. I have no idea how to get an idea of what to get her without ruining suspense, and while I know what she likes, at least kind of, I'm just not sure enough of it to make an investment in something she just won't LOVE.
For those of you married or engaged, how did your hubs or fiances handle this? Did they blow the surprise if they were trying to keep it that way.
If you're really that worried about the ring, subtly look at the rings she wears now...notice shapes of the stones, etc. and go from there.
I think she'd be fine with whatever you get. Its bonus points for you if you can get a ring on your own without input. :D

It must suck being a penis..
You have permanent ring around the collar..
Your neighbors are two nuts and an A**hole...
Every time you get excited you throw up..
And your best friend is a Pu**y..

My husband picked out the ring and surprised me with it. I loved it because it was something he did on his own without asking me. It was small because we didn't have much back then, but I didn't care. Jewelry isn't that important to me though. It was the symbolism and thought that counted. :)
Otoh, my stepson picked out a very nice ring for his fiance, and she didn't like it. He ended up returning it and getting a ring twice the size and put himself in a lot more debt with that one. I think she was wrong and snobby.
Hey Ladies - anyone want to go to the game tomorrow? My friend has two tickets that she isn't using and I want to go. They're in the RF bleachers. Either PM me or let me know ASAP.

Anybody know of a good place I can find silver shoes for my cousin's wedding? The only ones I can find are on www.zappos.com, and they cost more than I'm willing (or can afford) to spend on shoes that I'll wear one time. The cheapest ones they have are 60 bucks.

I got a nice pair in the clearance bin @ DSW but that was months ago. Do you have a DSW by you?

That's cool! I rarely "dress up", though, so I seriously doubt I'll wear them again. Who knows? It could happen, I suppose.
Well, I'm definitely going to look at Payless, as Karen suggested. However, if I do order from DSW, it's between these two. (The first link is to the first pair I showed you earlier.) :)

I wouldn't mind spending $40 on a pair of shoes like that because they won't go out of style.

Some of them are pretty bad, but I have a pair of silver ones from Payless that actually look nice. Of course, they're flats and I got them last year, so they're no help to Jenn now, but they were a pleasant surprise. :)
Sometimes the big department stores have incredible sales as well. Jenn you could try Macys or something like that.

Flats aren't a bad idea. That's what Shannen wore at her Sweet 16. They were silver sparkly, and she ended up wearing them all night because they were comfy. Most of the girls with heels took off their shoes.

I needed a pair of gold shoes once for a wedding. I bought a pair of cheap strappy shoes and spray painted them. They looked great.
I need to go to DSW. All of those shoes are super-cute! I can't wear Payless because I've bought pairs from there that have completely destroyed my feet. But DSW is awesome for cheap shoes.
They used to have some really great cheap shoe stores in Miami. I remember getting some really cute strappy sandles for like $10.

EHHH! Wrong! Guess again! We had tickets for September 12th. OUR GAME WAS RAINED OUT.
True story, Kim. True story...
Okay, this? Sucks. I'm late to the party but very indignant on your behalf!
I really wanted to go to Yankee Stadium this year, too, but it's just not going to happen. Must pay for things like oil and gas instead.
So Hildy boy's eye is still shut and very watery, which is apparently unusual enough that his surgeon wanted to see him early this morning. So we went and everything seems to be fine—no infection or obvious source of distress. So he just might be slow to bounce back. Who knows?
Of course in taking the boy to this appointment I had to miss my daughter's classroom open house, and I completely forgot about it anyways, so I didn’t see if my husband could have gone, and I didn’t prepare the girl for the fact that we wouldn’t be there. I am a big heel; my neighbor, who did go, said that she was quite sad. Sometimes you just can't win.

Oh, that's a great idea! She was fine when I picked her up, but the tireder and hungrier she got, the bigger deal it became. Funny how that works.
Edit: The boy is fine, too. He just got out of the bath tub and is playing a game called "nicky horseshoes" that he made up. He stands there going 'ding, ding, ding, ding," and moving back and forth in a line like he's some arcade game while my husband tries to throw a towel over his head.
Yes, they are both very strange.

You too? I once did the same thing.
My ex did that once, but we were going to a costume party and he was going as a pimp. It may have been the funniest thing he did in the 15 years I knew him.

Okay, this?
Awwwe - that sux. Can you do something with her this weekend just the two of you? I hope that Hildy Boy's eye is ok soon!
Was it you who was dealing with lice? My boss (of course the real fussy one) found out today her son has them - she took the day off to go to the nitpicker!

Ahem....page 2!
So today a devil possessed me and I cleaned the fridge. As in, removed every shelf and drawer and immersed them in warm water and soap, whereupon they shrieked in shock and submitted to my will.
All moldering leftovers were summarily disposed of. Every half jar of honey mustard and sweet gherkins and unused mojo marinade were fed to the sharks. (or in this case raccoons, knowing the laxity of our garbage can security.)
Now, every time I open the door there's a sweet shock of cleanliness. Looking through the glass shelves and counting the peaches in the drawer below, I feel proud but somehow wrong. Ground has shifted. I am out of whack. I feel (and I apologize in advance) like a Virgo.
Must go bathe immediately.

No dirt for me. :( I ended up taking my youngest to the ER right when I was getting ready to leave for NY. He hurt his shoulder playing football. :( Anyway, very long story but he's ok. Shoulder is separated (the ligament) and he's in a sling. Once the hub got there I took off to NY but didn't end up getting there until 7pm!
The ceremony and game was amazing. It's hard to put into words just how cool it was especially when Derek said final words and the Yankee team all tipped their caps to the fans as they walked around the entire field. It was magical. I feel very fortunate that I was able to be there. I will never forget it ever. :)

Hi Karen. A lot of players took dirt. I got some pictures of them on all 4's picking up dirt from the Stadium. Mussina's boys cracked me up. The are so damn cute. It was fun watching them picking up dirt from the pitchers mound and warning track.
I remember at his last "Meet & Greet" in PA, his boys were totally fooling around with balloons on the stage after Mike spoke.

Yeah like Vicki is saying it is really hard to put into words how special it was last night. So many chill-inducing moments...
I took a lot of pictures which I will download later from my camera.
I'm really tired since I was in the sun all day at the Giants' game then driving around for an hour looking for parking in the Bronx, blah. I finally rolled into my abode at about 2am....*yawn*

My daughter brought home the stupidest homework known to mankind tonight. It was a bag of ‘special items’—a penny, a sticker, a band aid, an eraser, a toothpick, a cotton ball and a penny. They were then supposed to write what each of these things reminded them of in their class room.
They gave an example: The cotton ball reminds me that the room is full of kind words and warm feelings.
To which I say: What. The. Fvck.
Could the school please put aside all that turgid theory and actually think about what they are doing here? These kids are eight. They wouldn’t know a metaphor if it came up and tried to steal their Pokemon cards. They are literal creatures. Pennies are for spending on candy; there’s no candy in the class room, therefore pennies remind them that they are not allowed to eat candy at school.
On top of that, trying to force-feed any self-respecting kid a cotton ball-is-love theory should make them roll their eyes so hard they can see their hair grow, and rightly so. I know very well that this is some Open Circle reinforcement but Jesu Christo, the chance of these kids getting the point here is about as great as Lyle Lovett winning People Magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” Award.
This was a Chinese water torture of a homework session.
Me: “Okay, let’s think about toothpicks. What are they—sharp and pointy, right? Anything sharp and pointy in the classroom?”
“Well, pencils,” says Girl.
"Great,” say I. “Just write that they remind you of pencils.”
"Noooooo,” moans Girl, “Because my pencils weren’t sharp today, they were dull because I couldn’t get my sharpener to work! Nooooooo!” More keening banshee wailing.
And of course I know they wanted Deeper Meaning than ‘toothpick equals pencil.’ I did get the ‘eraser reminds me that it’s okay to make mistakes’ and ‘band-aid reminds us to help classmates when they are hurt,’ equation out of her, but then we both had to go vomit. I am mainlining chardonnay now.

FWIW, here are the 'correct' answers:
The cotton ball is to remind you that this room is full of kind words and warm feelings.
The sticker is to remind you that we will all stick together and help each other.
The penny is to remind ou that you are valuable and special.
The toothpick is to remind you to 'pick out' the good qualities in your classmates and in yourself.
The band aid is to remind you to heal hurt feelings in your friends and in yourself.
The eraser is to remind you that everyone makes mistakes and that it is okay.
Damn, I had to type that and am out of chardonnay!

Sure do!. When I was looking for the Herbal Essence label I found a website that had all the products of my youth. That shampoo, Lip Smackers, Love's Baby Soft...cheesy stuff.
I wanna go back.
I saw somewhere that Love's Baby Soft has been resurrected and one can buy it now. I would SO wear it again. That and Jovan's Musk Oil. :o I know you can buy Lip Smackers anywhere but not the big a$$ tubes.

Hello ladies! Long time, no talk. Been busy with moving and starting a new job. Now I've been here a few months so I feel it's ok to slack off and log on every once in a while! ;) I hope everyone is doing well!
My favroite shampoo is Herbal Essences. I just love the smell so much. I have come close to the big O when taking a shower like in the commercials. :P

Hey, girl! :D Sounds like you are doing well.
Oy, those Herbal Essences commercials with the girl having an O in the shower were something else.
Today really should be such a bad hair day, but I flatironed mine then applied "Liquid Dirt" and it really does not look that bad....
I do switch around and some of the stuff I buy is a little bit pricey but usually I will only do that when I have a coupon or something. Also, I only wash my hair about twice a week so I don't go through stuff quickly.
Trish, do you remember Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific?
Sam you brought up shampoo in the first place!!!!
I loved Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific. I tried to find the commercial, but they only had one in Spanish. That stuff was so strong smelling.

As for shampoo, I generally like Garnier Fructis, but I switch it up. I get bored with the same stuff. So sometimes I'll buy Suave or Pantene. Pantene is costly compared to Suave though.
I did buy a $26 tube of Aveda conditioner from the salon, but honestly, I didn't notice any difference, so I won't be buying that again.

I rotate my shampoo/conditioners b/w Garnier Fructis and the Paul Mitchell duo of Awapuhi/The Detangler.
All my styling products are the Fructis (always coupons), besides the leave-in conditioner I use (RUSK Brilliance - which I found cheap at Marshalls)
TBH - The Paul Mitchell was cheap. I got the humongous bottles 2/$25 at Ulta - they have lasted me over a year (I also don't shampoo my hair every day).
I used to be a Product Hoarder. I know force myself to finish what I have before I can buy anything new ;-).

I had a very unfortunate and distressing spider problem for the last month in my new home but I'm hoping it is under control now after having the Orkin man come by. At my parents house they have a spider-cricket problem during the early spring. They are massive and they JUMP . They also come back every year unless the exterminator comes (and often don't go away). The first spring was the absolute worst because they were all over the place and tough to get rid of.
Luckily they were only downstairs. Which is funny because my little sister desperately wanted the downstairs room -- and then she got stuck dealing with the creepy spiders while I didn't (we moved in the late summer so didn't deal with the issue until the next spring).

When we lived in our condo, it was very wooded and we had a lot of those big brown hairy wood spiders. I was too afraid to squish them because of how big they were, so if my husband wasn't home, I used to put a clear bowl over them until he got home. I had to keep checking to make sure it didn't escape.

 That's how I was too. Most of the spiders were big but I was able to squish them. The one that I like to call Mini (for mini-tarantula) was just too thick and big to squish. I ended up spraying him with half a can of Raid and then I put a cup over him until the exterminator go there. When he picked up the cup he said "Wow...you've got some big spiders!" Very comforting coming from my exterminator.

I don't really love them. I love comfort thou. I am a Dansko clog girl. It is my guilty pleasure. I have 3 pairs of clogs, 2 pairs of dress shoes and and 2 pairs of sandals. Thats alot of Dansko.
Crocs don't thrill me either. Quite a few of nurses wear them but I could never get into them (maybe therapist know better:P ) I like Quarks better. They are better looking and more comfortable.
If you are looking for a dress shoe and don't mind paying a little bit, Think! and beautifeel and Aura make the most comfortable shoes on the planet AND they look great!!!
I tell myself I would rather buy one expensive pair of shoes a year vs a ton of cheap shoes. Too bad I have not stuck to plan of one pair a year.............

When I went to my friend's house in Texas, us adults went to dinner and left her son (I guess he was about 11 or so) home with his teenaged cousin. When we walked in the house, the kitchen was dark and I kicked a Tupperware bowl on the floor. I was ready to pick it up and put it on the counter, figuring one of the kids just dropped it, when they turned on the light and I saw the note on the counter, "tarantula under bowl". :scared: Her husband disposed of the spider, and once he was out of the house, we laughed and laughed - that was years ago and we still get a good  out of it!

Funny, my sister is having the same problem with her 10 y.o. I'm laughing b/c I think I was flat as a board until 8th grade, but I might be imagining that. At any rate, try the tank tops with a shelf bra built inside, you can wear them layered with other tanks and shirts and it's less of a big huge thing if the bra is hiding within an innocuous shirt. I would think.

Awwww Vicki :(. You should definitely give yourself a nice "You" shopping trip :).
As to the bra question, my mom just bought a few camisole tops to start out with; later we did some shopping at Kids 'R Us (do they have those anymore???). Whatever you do, however, don't take her to one of those "old lady" bra stores. My mom did that was me and they gave me the ugliest thing ever... plus it was annoying .

Now that you mention camis, I think Shannen started out with those. A little different than an undershirt, but not a bra.

It doesn't sound like it was intentional on her part.
Would she help you pick out an outfit if you had told her you wanted to look for something to wear? Shannen gets a kick out of me asking for her opinion when I shop.

Funny you say that. She told me tonight that tomorrow morning while I'm running she wants to pick out something for me to wear. That was sweet. She really is a good kid even though I tease her. :) I can't believe she turns 13 tomorrow.

My wardrobe is pretty much black so it shouldn't be too hard to pick out an outfit.

That's the one time I did splurge on makeup. I do like it, but I probably should watch the video about applying it, because it looks ok, but I'm not blown away by it.
It lasts such a long time, over the long haul, it really isn't that costly.
Karen - do you have the Kabuki brush to apply the foundation? I find that it gives a bit more coverage and looks more polished than using the regular brush.
Bare Escentuals makeup really does last a loooong time. I throw mine away before it's done (the spf is actually what expires, i think). I am pretty sure it winds up being cheaper than other makeups. I think I have the same container of Warmth since I started using it and it's just about gone (probably 4 years LOL).
Ladies,
Advice needed on getting my 11 year old daughter to go shopping for her first bra.
She still wears t shirts and wants no part of a bra, but she really needs to switch.
She is very resistant to this and I don't know why-I remember being very excited about it when I was young.
Thoughts?
Just buy some cute little bras. She'll wear them eventually. What girl can resist?;)

Yes, I use the short handled Kabuki brush for the foundation and the longer handled one for Warmth (as blush).
The girl in the store showed me how to use it, swirling and tapping. I'm just not getting great results.
Also, what do you use as concealer? The girl told me to use the foundation, but I think that's too dark. I always thought concealer should be light?

Funny, my sister is having the same problem with her 10 y.o. I'm laughing b/c I think I was flat as a board until 8th grade, but I might be imagining that. At any rate, try the tank tops with a shelf bra built inside, you can wear them layered with other tanks and shirts and it's less of a big huge thing if the bra is hiding within an innocuous shirt. I would think.
I will look for them.
I don't want to make her more self conscious than she already is, and I think she has "issues" about growing up-she actually has "issues" about everything it seems!
She is my tough one.

I ran out of the Multi Tasking Bisque, which is what they recommend for concealer (they have different shades), so right now I am using my winter foundation (lighter) for concealer. I'm heading out to ULTA now and will be getting more Bisque.
In regards to the swirling and tapping, I don't really tap that much ;-) - just swirl in the lid and swirling away (in their words buffing) on my face. I'm not gentle.

I only bought the starter kit, so I don't have the bisque, but she said I could use the foundation. I just think that makes dark spots even darker, so I use my regular concealer.
I don't tap a lot either.

You all keep talking about that make up. I need to give it a try. Seems you swear by it so that's a good sign. I tend to stick with the same stuff all the time. I really should try something new.

I'm all out and need to replenish. I don't wear much makeup in the summer, but now that the cooler weather is here I need to start again.
I went to Sephora a couple of months ago and asked about mineral makeup and the salesperson there told me "I didn't need it" :). However, I asked it more for my sister who doesn't have good skin and now she loves it. I've heard nothing but good things.

What I would give to have nice skin. From the time I was a teenager, I've had horrible skin. It's had its ups and downs, but was never really nice.

I've been very lucky to have nice skin. Thank God. My friend's daughter has terrible skin and has to be on Accutane. Poor kid. :(

Mine wasn't that bad where I needed Accutane, but I saw so many dermatologists in my teens and nothing helped. Finally, when I was around 21 I found a derm who put me on minocin (minocycline) and it did wonders. I had to go off it when I was pregnant and never went back on it.
It sucks having acne as an adult.

Luckily you were able to find the minocin (I've only heard of Accutane) and luckily you never had to go back on it. I feel bad for people that have to take meds their entire life.
I feel terrible when I see kids (esp young kids in high school) with bad skin. It has to be the worst esp when you're at an awkward age anyway.

Yeah, I went through my high school years with acne.
I didn't want to stay off the minocin, but the insurance I had after Shannen was born lapsed because I left my job. So I opted not to go back on it because it was $130 a month at the time.
It's more manageable now, but I still get break-outs and I have a major problem with blackheads now. Ugh.

Have fun Jenn.
I feel really old though, my 20 year was last Friday. I went to the post party part b/c the thing started at 6pm ... had lots of fun. People weren't as cliquey/catty as the 10 year - and now everyone is on Facebook and we're keeping in better touch.
It was kind of funny. Some people look exactly the same as they did when I last saw them 10 years ago, and others look completely different, almost like...adults.
A good portion of the people who graduated with me have a couple kids who are all ready walking and out of diapers, and several of them said that they're "finished" having kids. Obviously they're the same age as me, so I was feeling a bit sad that I haven't even started yet (not by choice - it just hasn't happened).
The class ahead of us ('97) is having a "joint" reunion with us since they never got things organized last year, so that's cool because I had several friends/acquaintances in that class, too. One of my best high school friends, an Indian (from India - not Native American) girl named Prashanti, was there and we talked quite a bit. I wouldn't have seen her were it not for the joint reunion. She's got the most beautiful baby girl now.
My school is TOTALLY different from when I went there. New buildings, new technology, new stands for the football games...just all-around updated and better. Haha!
We're going to the dinner tonight at a popular local Mexican food restaurant. We're supposed to be going to a comedy club after dinner, too, but I don't know if we'll stay for that.
Anyway, have a lovely weekend, Ladies! :)

Same here. It'll look really good for long periods of time, then out of the blue, I'll break out for a couple weeks. It sucks. It was bad in high school but I used medication, then it was good in college so I didn't need the meds. After college, it decided to periodically break out again. Most of the time it's fine, but on occasion, I'll break out for a couple weeks at a time. It drives me insane. I'm too old for that sh*t! :argh:

Took the words right out of my mouth. I'd wear them with jeans and a crisp white top, or even to work with black, grey or brown pants.

My sister is on Accutane, but apparently I've heard it's not prescribed all that much more because of the side-effects. I remember it cleared up her skin, but she had awful dryness on her lips and it was a disaster... and she's dealt with it her entire life (in Law School now and still has acne). She just went on birth control to see if that helps and so far it has (along with the mineral makeup).
I was kind of surprised when the lady told me that I have nice skin and only suggested a very light concealer/foundation. Mainly because my skin has gotten horribly dry since college and tends to flake in the winter after I shower. Same goes for my scalp and I often need a dandruff shampoo and even the Nutragena T-Gel stuff it occasionally gets so bad.
Jenn- glad you're enjoying your reunion :)

Yeah, I think you're right. I think they would look good with jeans. I might go get them next week.
I also need new clothes. I have nothing except casual clothes. Everytime we go out I have nothing. The husband told me to just go out and buy some things so I don't have to compain all the time about having nothing to wear.

I have not tried the bare minerals. I use Philosphy. Same thing but the mineral makeup has a sponge end. You tap on your head and cheeks then take tour brush and swirl. No mess. They have a concealer that I put on first. Actually I put on Hope in Jar (the best moisturizer).
You can get Philosphy at Sephora.

I like the philosphy line. I started with the amazing grace perfume. It is the only one that does not give me a headache.
I am wicked fair and sensative. I seem to have done well with it.So use the spongey applicator and use their short swirley brush.
