Ironically, your second paragraph came pretty close to summing up my situation (some differences but its close) and I'm upset for pretty much the same exact reasons you are.

Its not so much the part about them not being interested that bothers me---yes it hurts but you get over it--its being treated with a complete lack of respect and common courtesy...like I dont matter...that pisses me off big time. Because I do not treat people that way. I've gone on dates with some girls that I ended up not liking but they still liked me, yet I NEVER have taken the cowardly way out. If they called me wanting another date, I would always call back and tell them nicely that I'm not interested, that I'm sorry it cant work and if you wanna be friends thats cool. If I tell someone I'm gonna call them back--you can bet the house I WILL call them back....even if they may not like what I have to say.

Like this guy you went out on a date for example....its possible after the date he realized he wasnt all that interested. And I'm sure that would upset you...but he should at least have the decency to return your calls, or call you if he said he was going to. Thats the part that would make me mad. Getting totally blown off for no reason whatsoever. And thats pretty much what happened to me. Do you really wanna even be friends with someone who treats people like that?
Werd Mike. Don't worry..clearly she wasn't worth the time. You'll be alright :)

Thanks....without sounding like I'm full of myself, I'll say its her loss. She's missing out on someone who knows how to have fun, and who would have treated her great. She'll probably end up dating some loser who treats her like sh*t and cheats on her.

keg411 also lives in Jersey and doesn't do distances. At all. Plus, my friend is likely getting me the real dirt on my own situation tomorrow, so I'll know more then.

Meanwhile, I am getting my drink on for the second night in a row. Yay for no work tomorrow and a fun football game today :D.

The Globall Bazaar has been at Target the past three years. They usually set it up where the holiday displays, summer furniture, gardening area is. It starts in January and runs until probably the end of February. They sell goods from all over the world. They have great house/decorating things. You've got to check it out. I always find very unique things there.

Well I hope it's ok whatever it is. I got some pretty startling news this year on a health issue too - was never sick in my life either. It was tough to deal with for sure but nothing I can do about but take meds....and for someone who was never on anything, that was the biggest piece of bad news for me. :( Anyway, hang in there Kim. Darn, I just came from there, but we were doing spring school clothes, so I was way to cranky to do my usual whole store by the time we got out of the juniors dept....(for my daughter, not moi---they really do have some cute stuff for Spring.)

Love the Global Bazaar. You can live all of you life and not know until you see it at the Bazaar that you need a teak and leather embossed elephant plant stand, etc., or the firefly patio lights, etc. etc.

Prices are going up and the size of the products keep on getting smaller. You have to be a math wiz to figure out if the jumbo rolll of Charmin is actually bigger than the double, big, mega, etc.

Also everything seems to have gone up I went to staples the get some pens and stuff for the office, the type I like went from $12 dozen to $18 a dozen in about 3 months. I'm not cheap, but as Al Pacino said in Dog Day Afternoon, "I like to get kissed when......." the Staples bin of 60 pens for $6.00 looked better, of course the pens will probably last a day.

Also trash bags are now almost like tissue paper.

The semis that haul the products are having to pay more to fill up, so of course the cost is passed on to us, the consumers. F*ckin' oil company bastards. :-po'd-:

I hear you. I shop for pretty much one person every few weeks and don't even cook for myself every night, yet still routinely spend almost half of that. It's awful. Inflation is awful, the economy is getting worse; blech.

The grocery chatter is interesting. I guess guys don't really have a good idea how much it costs to run the house when it comes to groceries. I never go for the full deal, just odds and ends we need that I can pick up while on my way from doing something else. I've offered to do the shopping in the past but get turned down because "I don't know what to get". That's a classic case of "be careful what you wish for, you might get it", so I don't push the issue. In the past, the cost of groceries has been a topic of "discussion" though.

Hello ladies.....had girls night last night....my friend made dinner for all of us. Do any of you do that instead of going out? We sort of alternate except it's tough for those of us with kids to host. We get loud, talk dirty and drink too much.

Anyway, this is my group of friends that are ob/gyns.....there are always good stories. I told my running partner one story last night and she almost threw up when we were running this morning. Good stuff!

I had to laugh at Linda's text messages yesterday. She was babysitting for 3 young kids. It was hysterical. And happy pre-birthday to Linda - she turns the BIG 21 tomorrow. :D

We definitely still do girls night and due to most of my friends having kids it's an "in" night. But we have a blast. We usually just sit around BS and drink our butts off. We also have games nights with guys and girls. We play all kinds of games from Pictionary to Taboo or poker. Whatever we feel like. Usually there are a lot of people so some may be playing Taboo while some play poker or else we play a game all together. It's really fun. I guess as I get older, even though I'm still single, I prefer that over going out to bars. Don't get me wrong, I still like going to bars but I like going with a few people to a tame bar over the 20 deep that we used to roll with to some crazy place or another.

At least once a year we get together at one friend's house, but usually we go out.

I prefer goint out. When we go to this friend's house her daughter is there, and one of the other girls brings her daughter, and they usually don't leave us alone. That's not my idea of a girls night out.

I love girls nights but I'm like you. It has to be out. It's just too hard for everyone to get rid of the kids and husbands. Although we do get a husband to chauffeur. Drop us and pick up so no one has to be the designated driver.

I used to do baseball girl trips with my former bff ... we always had a really good time - every year we would do Baltimore - one year we went to AZ when they did the preseason games there. And the best was when we did 4 stadiums in 4 days during interleague. We saw Boston @ Philly - Mets @ Yankees - Toronto @ Natties - Yanks @ Baltimore.

Good times ...

Most of my friends have kids, so they want to go out for the reasons specified above - they can't get rid of the kids :D .

I do a fair amount of that, too, as well as the random dinner out, which really isn't long enough, but I'll take what I can get. But I don't spring for EMC club seats, I gotta admit.
I think I'm going down to Philly this Spring with a college roomie to meet up with a third friend to see the Sox play there. I do love a good road trip, even if we don't have our water pipe going in the back seat and the boom box on somebody's knee playing a Dead bootleg as we did XXXX years ago.

I'm really lucky that my only unmarried-with-no-kids girl friend is a Yankees/baseball fan!

The stadium tour is fun but what is even more fun to me is visiting parts of the country that I would never go to if it wasn't for the baseball game. I mean, I really would never have gone to KC for vacation if it weren't for that. And I ended up having a really good time there!

I hear you....I'm definitely the odd ball of my group. My girl friends will ask me about how the Yankees are doing but they aren't really interested in the answer, they just ask because they know I care about it so I try to keep my answer short (i.e. good or bad). Whenever we have get togethers I am the one in the living room with the boys watching the game while all the girls are in another room doing something else! But I still love them and they still love me!:)

I wrote this in another thread but this weekend I'm going to PA to a Mussina dinner with someone from here and I'm meeting some people (most post here but not that often) that i met at Camden Yards this Aug. I can't wait till Sat morning! That's when we're leaving. It'll be a short trip but a little Yankee/baseball fix for me. :)

How's your niece doing Nicole?

She's amazing. I spent all day with her on Sunday. She eats like a pig and demands a lot of attention but she is just so precious. I don't know how you people do it with the kids. After one day I was exhausted!

I can't wait until she becomes interactive.

Had to go back to the grocery store...forgot some stuff yesterday. Another $20- so we're up to $235- so far for groceries. I'll bet the husband goes a few times this week to pick up odds and ends. I'm guessing the entire bill this week is going to be somewhere around $265 or $275 for a family of 5.

He usually does the grocery shopping so this is sort of the first time in a long time that I've done it....now that I'm not working. I HATE GROCERY SHOPPING!!!

 It's the opposite here. Not that I don't impulse buy, but hubby will load up on the meat and buy pounds and pounds of shrimp and stuff. He also buys a lot of soda, which I don't drink and I prefer the kids not drink it, so when I shop I don't buy it. That stuff adds up.

That's funny.....when my husband shops he does buy the soda. I refuse because if it's here, they drink it. I never buy it....I don't know why my bill is so high. I guess I just buy more stuff in general than he does. And not sticking to "the list" is my downfall.

If I did start a new job by then (doubtful) I would just tell them in advance that I had a planned day off - and it would be one day. When we went last year, we went on a Thurs eve, game on Fri and stayed the weekend so it really was only 1 day off or maybe 1 1/2 days.

I know when I hire people, I usually ask that before they start.

Couple of things:

1) Vickie, that's so exciting about the Mussina dinner... I am massively jealous. And you WILL find a job :).
2) Spring Training- I really wish I could go; my younger sister and I are going to Ft. Lauderdale in March and I'm going to make her go to an O's game, but I'd love to go to Tampa at some point for ST; it always looks like fun.
3) Super Bowl- probably going to a party unless the roommates end up having something here

I missed a lot! OK...

1. Baseball girlfriends. I am really lucky - I have four very close girlfriends who love Yankee baseball. They all used to post here but no one except the real old-timers would remember them. Besides them, I have quite a few other Yankee-loving girls in my circle, although it's pretty funny talking to some of the ones who aren't baseball fans when they try to talk baseball with me.

2. Spring Training - we went every year for about 5 years and I'd love to go again, but we're doing Vegas for a week in May for our 10th anniversary and probably North Carolina in the fall as usual, so that should do us in vacation-wise.

3. I love grocery shopping (I think I just love shopping!) I am obsessive about sticking to the list and looking for bargains. I have gotten my husband better about that, but he's still pretty impulsive and then if he gets something, I feel like I can, so our bills do add up. But it's much nicer having the help bringing the bags inside. ;)

4. No Superbowl plans that I know of. JP is a huge Giants fan, so he might want to do something, but for the most part, we really don't do much - it always ends late and it's a Sunday, so probably not. We make up for it with the annual Daytona 500 party, though.

Ooh Terri, fast recovery! Hope the procedure goes well.

Ally, a Daytona party sounds like fun. My hubby always barbecue's that day and we do not make ANY plans..because it is like Superbowl for Nascar.

For a quick dip for parties, a friend of mine made this and it is so yummy. Take some medium cheddar cheese and grate the block. Then take some LaVictoria or Ortega salsa(mild, medium your preference for heat) and mix it into the cheese.. Enough to coat, but not dripping. Add a dash of black pepper and there you have instant dip for chips. Best served cold with tortilla chips.

I recently joined a book club and we get together once a month and take turns hosting.
It's sad...I will have been here two years in March and still have very few friends.:(

That book club idea sounds like a great one. I wish I knew of one near me. I get what you mean about meeting people. It is more difficult when you are not from the place where you live since there are no old friends or relatives nearby.

I also like the idea someone else mentioned about playing games. I love games like Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit, etc. An ongoing Poker night would be good too.

Hi girls,

I have been very busy and haven't checked in lately.

Nothing new...we convinced my father to let us call the doctor. He is going Friday so we'll have a better idea what stage he is at.

Other than that it's been running around with the kids-Salt is working his long hours now so it's all me until April 15th.

Thanks to you ladies with the contact lens input-I changed her lenses to a fresh pair and she has had no problems! Now she has a new problem-blisters on her feet! She plays a ton of basketball and the shoes seem to be fine-so I was wondering if you have any suggestions on that issue-I have been doing a lot of research on this and it seems perhaps socks could be the answer?

Glad to hear the surgery went well. Having been through a couple of surgeries myself in the past few years a couple of suggestions:

1. Take pain medication if you are in pain. The first surgery I took as little as possible trying to tough it out. That was stupid. The second one I popped those pills like crazy and I was okay.

2. Milk the help/attention for all it's worth. Eventually it goes away. ;)

Good luck!

Riddle me this ladies. I met this woman on the train a couple of weeks ago,
She lives in my neighborhood and I'd seen her on occasion but we never spoke. In my new post New Year meet new people resolution I struck up a conversation (she actually said "Hi" first). We had this really long chat and she gave me he phone# and e-mail. She works near me as well but told me that she going to be really busy as her company is in the middle of a merger(true because it involves my health plan and the public hearing was in her building) I called her and she said she'd grab or a drink when things calmed down.
I sent her an e-mail yesterday told her about her weekend and told her about the concerts I saw. She wanted to read one of my stories but told me that she hadn't read it yet because work was crazy. She also told me that spent Sunday with her boyfriend's family. It was his Dad's birthday.
Now she seemed really happy to meet me, get my # and give me hers# and yet she has a boyfriend. Pretty, petite and interested (her not me)
What was that about?

Teri, glad the surgery went well. Hope your recovery is quick. :)

I love games too. We used to have neighbors in the condo complex we lived in that loved games too, so we used to play Pictionary, Taboo, Trivial Pursuit...all kinds of stuff. It was so much fun.

When we get together with my in-laws, we always play cards, usually poker. But it's dealer's choice, so we mix it up a lot.

Some people are really extroverted and simply like meeting new people. She may have just found talking with you fun and wanted to talk more, but also wanted to make it clear that she was in a relationship and just looking for new friends.

I get it. I've never done it because I haven't been in any very long term relationships, but I have a friends that are and are quite comfortable hanging out with and meeting guys who they consider "just friends" (and even some that aren't in a relationshp and do they same thing).

I love Taboo, although some of my friends have banned my old roommate and I from being on the same team because we know each other so well. They get frustrated that we know exactly what clues to give to get the correct answer.

I think Genus is version 5 - Its more scientific rather than general pop culture. Its really hard.

My father has an appointment this PM-my older sister could take him.

My younger sister was able to pick up my son at school and get him to his band practice.

My daughter hasn't vomited since 5 AM and is drinking Powerade and had a few saltines.

I had this whole day planned perfectly and then the girl gets sick! But everyone is where they need to be-and I hope my boy doesn't get this and miss his big day Sunday-he's worked so hard.

I'll keep you posted-of course I have been cleaning up after her all night so watch me get sick too.:scared:

I have the Trivial Pursuit Pop Culture edition and let me tell you that it is fabulous! It has a DVD too for the pie piece questions. I also have a Trivial Pursuit that is about the last 20 years (I think it was put out in 2000 or so). It has all the regular categories but everything occurred within the last 20 years so at least I have heard of the events. It's really good too.

We were playing some other game and the clue she was trying to give me was "Hank Aaron". She said "He's a famous baseball player" and I said "Babe Ruth" and she said "No, the other one" and I said "Hank Aaron". Some of the guys we were playing with almost walked away from the game. There were obviously a ton of other famous baseball players that it could have been but I knew the extent of her baseball knowledge.

I'd say she likes getting attention from men. She acted impulsively then once she got the attention she wanted, it was time to let you know it was going nowhere. That sounds about right.

Attention whore.

I'm feeling a bit better....thanks for asking. I'm still taking it easy....sleeping alot, eating the most awesome Dreyer’s ice cream (Girl Scout's Samoas Cookies Flavor) watching Brothers and Sisters and 24 on DVD...and still popping pills. My daughter cleaned the bathroom for me this afternoon and vacuumed the house. I doubt that I'll be able to go to work on Monday....oh darn.

So check this out....I went out tonite with all my co-workers---are usual dinner/get drunk outing, and the "flower chick" that blew me off last week was there. Seeing as I'm the one who has a right to be pissed (and am), I pretty much ignore her and wait for her to approach me....thinking at AT LEAST she'll have the decency to like apologize or give me some sort of explanation or something---anything---maybe even say like "hello" to me and talk to me a bit.

So what happens?? She doesnt even acknowledge me in any way. Doesnt say ONE word to me all night. She doesnt say hello when I showed up, and while hugging/kissing everyone goodbye when she left...she walked right by me without even looking at me. Am I the only one who thinks that is majorly f*cked up?

All I gotta say is...Im glad I didnt get the chance to get involved with this girl. She showed her true colors in how she has handled this whole situation.

Perhaps this is her not very successful way of getting things back to neutral ground. It seems to me that if no matter how silly she is, you get to choose what your response is. I wouldn't even rent the brain space out to getting annoyed by the whole thing, because that takes some of the enjoyment out of your work outings. And you deserve the fun part, and don't need the silly part. Let her worry about that stuff.

She just totally blew me off for the lunch date....without any reason or any explanation--that was exactly a week ago now, and she hasnt said one word to me since then....whether its in person, phone or email.

I think even my co-workers were weirded out by the situation last night. A few of them (who I know had no clue about whats been going on) came up to me last night and were like "is something going on between you and Kim? cuz I notice she is basically ignoring you and you guys havent said a word to each other all night"

When you say "blew you off for the lunch date", does that mean she didn't show up at an agreed time and place or, didn't accept the invitation? If she was a "no show", I'd let her have it.

She accepted--then bailed via text message like 30 mins before I was suppose to pick her up...using some BS excuse of she wasnt sure of what my intentions are, and she doesnt know if i consider this a "date" or just "dinner"--and that maybe its not a good idea. I called her after I got the text and got her voicemail....no callback. I sent her an email earlier in the week just asking her to explain what the hell happened etc etc...no response. And then last night she acts like I dont exist and doesnt say a word to me. That in a nutshell is how everything went down.

Thats what I dont get. I HATE the "well I didnt wanna tell you cuz I didnt wanna hurt you/have you get mad at me". Do they not realize by just blowing you off, they ARE hurting you and actually getting you MORE mad?

I dont have any problems with a girl that turns me down. Thats life. I've turned down girls before, but I was never once an asshole about it. I always told them right to their faces I wasnt interested in them in that way....and I never agreed to a date and then just stood up someone. What I cant stand is the way these girls show a complete lack of decency and respect.....at least call me or tell me to my face why you are bailing. Dont text me--then completely ignore me without returning calls, and dont act like I dont exist at a co-worker hang out. Show some f*cking maturity and deal with the situation like an adult. I'm fully capable of doing so....but she seems to wanna act like a child and go with the "if I ignore the situation, maybe it will just go away" plan.

Its just so retarded. I think what really bothers me about this girl, is that I thought we were at least friends....we were friends before I asked her out--we were cool. This isnt just some random girl I met, then asked out and got blown off....while that would annoy me, I would forget about it very quick. This thing drives me crazy cuz I dont expect people I consider a "friend" to treat me like this---I feel like betrayed or something.

Trish

Yeah I don't get that at all. Back in the day, I've told guys that I didn't want to take it to the next level of "dating" because I liked being friends and didn't want to end up potentially having a bad breakup and losing a friendship.

Or with a couple of guys, I felt like it was more of a brother/sister type relationship and it weirded me out thinking of dating.

Anyway, what did you say to her when she wondered what your intentions were?

I agree about hating the whole "ignoring" thing with dating. I mean, the other week, I went out with a guy and had a great time and he tells me to text him the next day. I do so... and never hear anything again (until my friend finds out that apparently he "didn't think it would work out"). I don't get why he couldn't have told me that and played games instead.

As for your story, Mike... I'm sorry that the girl turned out to be a b*tch (and I'm even more sorry that she has my name ).

And Trev, that's hilarious that you got stood up but then met hot Swedish girls. Your night probably had a better end than you would have if you had the date :).

My daugher has a very close guy friend...they've been friends for a long time. They are so cute together (and his mom is one of my closest friends as well as our younger kids being friends since kindergarten). I know it would be weird for them to date, but it just seems so logical. I know they are better off friends though.

My daugher has a very close guy friend...they've been friends for a long time. He had a crush on her back in 5th grade and she wanted nothing to do with him. Then she liked him for a little bit but never admitted it.

Anyway, what did you say to her when she wondered what your intentions were?

I called her back and just told her that my only intention was to take her to lunch/dinner--that I think she is overreacting to something that isnt there, and that to call me back so we can talk about whats bothering her. Because again, we were friends before I even decided to send the flowers and ask her out....so I was treating this really as a "friends" thing. Just go out, have a good time, keep everything light and have a nice meal. Depending on how it went...at the end of the night, I would have told her how I felt and then asked her out on an actual date. And if she said no...and that she wanted to keep it as a friends thing...I would have been totally cool with that.

The fact that she treated me this way--tells me she really didnt even consider our friendship important to her...cuz if she did then she wouldnt be pulling all the stupid nonsense she has been the last week. And I think that is really whats bothering me.

Then it sounds to me like she's just a moron. I'm glad you found out sooner rather than later.
