I love funky bright colors like yellow...they just don't look right on me. How is Shannen doing with the Avon, Karen?
I prefer dark colors almost exclusively for mani/pedi since they look better with my fair, pink-undertoned skin...
She's doing pretty well, thanks. This is only her 3rd campaign. Not as many orders this time as the last one, but she already has a bunch of orders for the next one. She opened up a second checking account just for her Avon, so she can deposit the money she collects and pay for the items right from there. Easier to keep track of it when it's not lumped with her other work money. :)

Hi chickarinas.
Karen, good luck with the possible job!
Uch, Nicole. I've had awful TOTM embarrassments more than a few times. Sadly I remember in HS a teacher had a period accident and it was awful how people talked about it. :( Little did we know....
Jeanne, is that a dark purple? I desperately need a pedi but I'm trying to deal with my badly split heels first.
It's not super dark - it's deep but still bright enough to be okay for spring. :)
here is what it kind of looks like:

I used to have cracked heels - I HATE that..I'm sort of nutty about my feet not being smooth. :D are you using anything? I can recommend some great products. :)

I'm pretty conservative when it comes to polish - in part because of my job and who I see everyday. I never paint my nails....I can't be bothered with the upkeep. But I do usually have my toes painted esp in warm weather but I go with pinks and reds. I don't care for any other colors including french on toes...for some reason, I can't stand that on toes but I like it on women's finger nails. :dunno:
I have a "permanent" French on my fingers - my nail girl wants to give me this one that's two shades of pink with some glitter - I like it but I think it might be too much for work. We'll see. The toes are dark blue now, but I'm getting them done this weekend. Usually I go either dark red or silver, though. My favorites are OPI Happy Anniversary or Essie After Sex (I hope I don't end up on a watch list for googling that  ):

I understand what the procedure is about. I just have a problem with making an appt with a gyn due to crappy, judgemental care I received years ago. And my sister telling me I should get it done because "it's not like you are having any kids." I mean, she's right, but I don't appreciate her rubbing my face in it like that.

that sucks danielle. :upset: I once changed gyno's because it was a younger dude (the father was my original doc and retired) who said "you know you really need to start trying to have a child soon if you're going to have them"..I was going through a breakup at the time - I left there crying...he was trying to be helpful I'm sure but the way he said it was not nice. :upset:
That sucks, girls. I've had 3 gynos in my life (a father-who delivered me-and then his son, and the man who took over their practice). They've all been WONDERFUL. Supportive, warm, encouraging. I've been lucky, I guess.

No, no, no! Check the label of the antibiotic. A lot of them, especially the fluoroquinolones, should never be taken with things like yogurt or any other sort of dairy. It makes them less effective.

Hi LTE friends and Happy Mom's Day to all the moms out there....even if you're a mom to a pet. :)
I told you about my mother's situation. Well I brought something to her and of course at 2pm she was sleeping when I got there. Again, I stressed the urgency to get the carpets pulled up since the house smells so bad of cat piss. Anyway, when I got my brother alone, he said he wanted to get rid of the cat that's peeing in the house. I urged him not to do that. The house is still going to smell anyway and she will be devastated if he takes the cat away....he did this before and I was furious.
Well, I didn't know that this cat was once a ferrell (sp) cat that eventually trusted my mother enough to let it in the house. Scott (my bro) said he cannot catch the cat (it flies around the house at pretty good speeds) but wants my cousin to come up to help him sometime so they can catch it. I said, "you better not do that, no one is going to want a ferrell cat that pisses in their house."
So i really don't know wtf to do. :upset:

That sucks, Vicki. But if he's determined to get rid of the cat, he's probably going to. So why not see if you can find a no-kill shelter that will take it? I know Forgotten Felines is no-kill but I think they only take cats from near the CT shoreline. I may have some other places in my files at work. Let me know if you want to go that route and I'll see what I can come up with.

The last 2 times I've been up there the litter boxes (there are 2 i think) look pretty clean to me. :dunno:
I really think because this cat have lived outside for so long, it maybe just doesn't use the litter box? I have no idea. The whole situation makes me ill. He says he knows people that want the cat. I don't buy it. Like I said, who would want a ferrell cat that pees in the house? No one. :(

What about letting the cat out once in awhile? Does she keep him indoors completely? I personally don't let my cats out, but some cats are not happy unless they get some time outdoors. As long as the cat is vaccinated and neutered, of course.

I doubt it is vaccinated and neutered since it is/was a wild cat. Scott said the cat will NOT go out doors at all. See.....there really doesn't seem to be any solution which is why it's driving me nuts.

Oh Dawn, I'm sorry. It's so hard to say good-bye to beloved pets. You gave her a great life, and she gave love right back to you. Big hugs.
Vicki, sorry to hear of the Mom/Bro/cat stress. That stinks. Any chance you guys could round up that cat and get it spayed/neutered? If it's a boy, part of the problem might be spraying, and that could cut the smell down considerably.
There's a group around here called Kitty Angels that deals with feral cat rescue. Maybe they are down in your neck of the woods as well?

That's a good suggestion, Hildy. When our cat Batman was overdue for his neutering, he started spraying everywhere. On things you didn't even know he had peed on. Furniture, my son's bookbag (thankfully, I smelled it before I sent him to school with it on his back), cardboard boxes, the walls. It was awful.
The only problem is sometimes if it's been going on for such a long time, the spraying becomes a habit, and it may not stop. But it's definitely worth a try.

Thanks Hilders. I will look into that and some other places like that.
What color shoes go best with a light pink dress?
Shannen will be wearing a newly re-designed version of my sister's maid of honor dress from my wedding, as some of you may remember, for prom.
Of course, when my sis wore the dress, she had the shoes dyed to match, but that's kinda wedding-y and not really prom-ish, right?
She really doesn't want to wear silver shoes. What else would go?

I think bone looks great with pink. It tones it down just enough to make the pink seem pretty but not seem overly girlish.
That's a possibility. We went to the new Marshall's shoe outlet in Ossining Sunday, but couldn't find anything she liked, other than a really high pair of Paris Hilton heels. There was one style that was pewter with a black bow that might have worked, but they ddn't have her size.

How pink is the pink, Karen? Light, dark, salmon-ish, Barbie-like?

When we brought it to the dressmaker, she called it light pink. She said the satin is a common color and should be easy to find.

Agree about the bone...that is what I would pick...
Alternatively: I have a more funky light pink dress which I can't fit into right now that I've worn with metallic silver mules.
Ladies has anyone ever had an oxygen facial? I'm going to a spa on Saturday with a gf of mine and I am *not* getting one but was tempted. Mostly b/c she's having a massage, so I chose a facial that was the same length of time....but maybe the next time we go or if I go by myself.
Never heard of an oxygen facial, but it sounds interesting. I really need a facial. It's been too long. A year, actually.

That's a cute idea and she would probably love them, except for the ugly platform part. I'll look for more like that. Plus, we're not really looking to spend that much $$. The Paris Hilton ones in the Marshalls outlet were only $40.
I'd wear silver. I know she doesn't like it, but I think a metallic like silver or a pewter are the only thing that will look good.
Although I guess a bone or beige would be OK as long as it's a patent leather.

I agree with the other ladies - bone is probably best if she is not into silver. :) the only other color that may work (and it would depend on the undertones of the pink) is a metallic brown/bronze color? lots of those tones work well with certain pinks...also depends on what jewelry she's going with?
I have never tried an oxygen facial...I don't think my sister does those at her spa. Like karen, I'm overdue for a facial too..it's been way too long. :o I just feel bad booking out her time.

Just wanted to say thank you to you all during my difficult time.
Yesterday was horrendous for me, to say the least.
But I absolutely know that it was the right thing to do ... even though I do wish I had done it a little sooner :(
She went very quickly and is at peace finally.
Something happened after the procedure that confirmed that there was more going on and that let me know (and her vet telling me) that she had another issue that was not diagnosed. It was a bit freaky.
Emily was the best little bugger I could have ever asked for. She was such a little lover and provided me with so much love, comfort and comedy in her long life.
I still expect to see her coming down the stairs or to come into bed to wake me up to be fed, but I guess that will pass, eventually. I miss her terribly.
Ollie, on the other hand, doesn't seem to mind her not being around :P
Thanks again ladies - I really appreciate it!!

I can't either, for the most part, b/c of my high instep and fat feet, but I can do loafers, mules, etc. online - just not dressy shoes.
I love 6pm, though - bought some slippers, a pair of slip on loafers and workout gear from there - great prices.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE:
You've heard about people who have been abducted and had
their kidneys removed by black-market organ thieves.
My thighs were stolen from me during the night a few years
ago. I went to sleep and woke up with someone else's thighs.
It was just that quick. The replacements had the texture of
cooked oatmeal. Whose thighs were these and what happened to mine? I spent the entire summer looking for my thighs.
Finally, hurt and angry, I resigned myself to living out my
life in jeans.
And then the thieves struck again.
My butt was next. I knew it was the same gang, because they
took pains to match my new rear-end to the thighs they had
stuck me with earlier. But my new butt was attached at least
three inches lower than my original! I realized I'd have to
give up my jeans in favor of long skirts.
Two years ago I realized my arms had been switched. One
morning I was fixing my hair and was horrified to see the
flesh of my upper arm swing to and fro with the motion of
the hairbrush. This was really getting scary - my body was
being replaced one section at a time. What could they do to
me next?
When my poor neck suddenly disappeared and was replaced with a turkey neck, I decided to tell my story. Women of the
world wake up and smell the coffee! Those 'plastic' surgeons
are using REAL replacement body parts - stolen from you and
me! The next time someone you know has something 'lifted',
look again - was it lifted from you?
THIS IS NOT A HOAX. This is happening to women everywhere every night.
WARN YOUR FRIENDS!
P. S. Last year I thought someone had stolen my bewbs. I was lying in bed and they were gone! But when I jumped out of bed, I was relieved to see that they had just been hiding in my armpits as I slept. Now I keep them hidden in my waistband.

If you're in Macy's or (gasp) Lord & Taylor, for sure. The ones I got at Love My Shoes were like $25, which worked for me. And they're silver peep toe pumps, so I've actually worn them to a few things (OK, every wedding I've been to in the past three years  )

That's definitely the exception to the rule though, and you can't always find the same brands there each time. I think they're like Marshalls and TJ Maxx and they get what they get.
Sometimes DSW has them too, although I don't find DSW to be all that discounted.
I finally talked to the dress maker yesterday. She's had the dress since Feb but hasn't done much with it. I know she's good and she'll get it done, but it makes me nervous. We're going to see her Thursday to have Shannen try the dress pinned-on, now that it's apart. She's basically remaking the whole dress, except for the bodice.

That line always reminds me of Sally Field in Smokey and the Bandit. "Put the pedal to the metal and the thing to the floor."
She's really good at what she does, so it probably is a 123 project for her once she knows what's gotta be done. We're not 100% sure what's happening with the skirt yet, so Shannen will have to definitely decide Thursday.

DSW is hit or miss discount-wise, although I have to get there....I have a coupon that expires at the end of the month for 20% off a $49.85 purchase. I really need black pumps for work - the ones that are comfortable are starting to show their age and the replacements are not comfortable at all! They're OK with sheer stockings, but how often do I wear sheer stockings? With tights or barefoot, they hurt, so they need to be replaced.

I would say that about 70% of my wardrobe is black, 20% blue jeans and 10% random stuff I rarely wear.
So I wear a ton of boots all winter--knee high, ankle boots, low heel, CFM heel, you name it. I need a similar alternative for the summer, and flip flops don't seem quite put together enough. And I can't wear high heels with shorts or a jeans skirt w/out getting flashbacks to slinking through the hallways of high school in full 'Saturday Night Fever' slut fashion mode. So what's the summer shoe that does it all and yet looks edgy and fresh w/out looking tacky?

Ballet flats. There are tons and oh so cute. And if you slack on the pedicure, closed toes ftw. I love the gladiator sandals but I'm old and getting a little cankle-ish so that's a no-no for me but if you have the ankles, go for it. Kitten heels if you want a tiny lift are great and clogs are always fine. Wedges too. I need a bigger shoe budget.

 that used to be me - and most times when I wore jeans, it was with black top and shoes. :D I have now significantly branched out and added a lot of brown to my wardrobe and more recently, a small amount grey. :D I do have some colors I sprinkle in here and there but I wear a lot of solids - if I wear a print here, it's a big deal.

One of the women at our beach who is XXL in size has these very, very old sandles that are made of cloth with her mamoth footprint in the bottom (and dirty with an outline of her foot:o ). God, every year when i see her wear them to the beach, I cringe. They are disgusting. :barf: The cloth is all ripped, the bottoms are black from her feet. :upset:
I would hope if I ever sported something around like that my friend(s) would please tell me to toss them.

I usually go with a wedge heel. :)

so ladies -- I've spoken about my quest for a great replacement for my mascara that Maybelline discontinued...it's still a sore subject that they did that. ;) I was using Tarte for awhile - but it gets clumpy too soon...
anyway, I looked at the best sellers today on Sephora and saw this one - WTH is up with this brush? I'd probably end up with a big ball of black hanging from my lashes :D

has anyone tried using something like this?

I've always used the Maybeline except when I've gotten those "free" gifts when you buy a Clinique product or something....but I've never liked any of the mascaras so I've stuck with Maybeline. :dunno:
I'm too lazy to search for something that's comparable.
Jeanne, wtf is that mascara all about? I can't understand how anyone would put that on their eye lashes. :wtf:
I try different mascaras once in a while. I always go back to Maybelline, though. I used to always use the one in the pink tube. Since I've been using the Stiletto, however, going back to the shorty wand on the Great Lash (I think it's called that), seems odd.

I tend to just go back to Diorshow though. Or Lancome Hypnose. Or Lash Blast. There is a new Bobbi Brown one I like a lot too. I have issues...

I'd try it in the Black Cherry and Purple Haze.

$17 for mascara? No thanks! My Maybelline costs between $4.50 and $8 depending on which one I get.
I have green eyes, and they say purple eyeliner is supposed to bring out the color, but I never notice a difference if I wear purple eyeliner.

My favorite perfume was reformulated and I am so freaking pissed off about it - L'Occitane Neroli - it was freaking delicious. I have like an 1/8 of a bottle left and I only wear it once in awhile just so I don't have to say good-bye.

I wonder if Estee Lauder reformulated their Beautiful perfume? I've loved that scent for years ever since my mom gave me some one Christmas. I haven't bought any lately, because it's pricey (I did get a great gift set on Ebay a few years ago though). I saw it in Macy's a few weeks ago and just had to spray some on. As soon as I smelled it, I thought to myself "Eww! This isn't the same".
And speaking of Yankee Candle, they discontinue my favorites too. They had this biscotti candle, which I loved. It smelled just like biscotti baking in the oven. I only bought a couple of tarts because I wasn't sure if I'd like it and sure enough, when I went back to stock up, it was already gone.

Could be they reformulated. I don't understand why they do it. Supposedly the perfume I love they changed the formulation b/c of price of production.
I would have paid more for it and from the review on the website, so would have everyone else. They make no sense.

She goes in next Wed for her double mastectomy and then chemo will follow.
So far I have an aromatherapy blanket (supposedly the chemo lowers your body temp?), a heavy duty organic lip balm (chemo dries out lips/skin), ginger candies and strips, as well as some peppermint/ginger tea for the nausea. I also got her a Good Health and Strength Karma bracelet (amethyst).
I also have a tote bag that I purchased to put it all in instead of a box.
I was planning on giving her cleaning service for after the surgery but her mom is taking an FMLA and coming up from Florida to take care of her, help with the kids, etc., and I am not quite sure she would want a stranger in her house while she is ill...
Can anyone think of anything else that might be good to add?

 my friend at work went on a date last weekend - it would have been the first time they were going seal the deal and she was wearing this L'Occitane lotion (she had used the body scrub, etc) and he was HIGHLY allergic. He got really sick and wound up at one of those medemerge places on Sunday - he kept choking so no sealing of the deal that night. :D it was cherry vanilla or something like that....
I'm with you on Yankee candle - the only thing though is they bring the discontinued ones back a lot..I was on a Eucalyptis kick for a bit and they brought it back a few times. :)
Oh no  - that must have been some allergic reaction...
That's such a shame that sealing the deal was foiled by her lotion ...
I love the Eucalyptus, too!!
They used to have one a long time ago, it was Cedar and Nutmeg or something like that - I loved it - I wish they would bring that one back.

And every Yankee candle fragrance that I love is discontinued. i feel like I am being singled out  .
I actually purchased 100 tarts from some chick off ebay in "Fresh Mint" because I loved it so much.
I had a candle discontinued by three companies - it was Winter Magic by Colonial, then Yankee came out with Angel Wings or Angel Whispers or something like that, and Glade had a Winter Snow that was almost the same and now none of them have it. Luckily, someone at the Yankee Candle store told me that one was being discontinued so I bought three of the huge jars. :)

OK, you guys are cracking me up today - between Vicki's son looking for hair and Jeanne's friend dam near killing her b/f trying to smell sexay for him, I don't know.
Talking about mascara, and knowing I am going to have no way to keep out of POOC or the other thread like that, has anyone tried those vibrating mascaras? I was reading about them and supposedly they work well - I use the replacement Illegal Lengths (I join your moment of silence for the purple tube ones, Jeanne) and it's fine, but I might have to try that.

A fun full coverage hat. Restaurant gift card. A nightgown that buttons in the front (it's hard to get your hands over your head post-op). A book light for sleepless nights. A serving tray for the bed.

Maybe some kind of gourmet cracker to nibble on? I don't know if crackers help chemo nausea - I know they work for morning sickness. That sounds wonderful, though - you are a nice friend. :)

Nice ideas for sure. I don't know if you know what she likes to read, but maybe some books that she'd like or a subscription to a magazine she would enjoy.

I almost got her a funky head scarf - I probably should add that - she's not a hat fan. Although she probably will have to learn to be, unfortunately. I'll see if I find anything cute out and about!
The nightgown is a GREAT idea - I will pick one up tonight.

I think I will throw in some books that I have - the Janet Evanovich # series books - I know she hasn't read them and they are light and funny - I think that would be perfect.
Thanks for the ideas ladies - much appreciated.

I was going to chime in about this...I had a number of customers at the bookstore over the years ask for help creating similar baskets/gifts. Once, I recommended the Janet Evanovich books and the woman sort of poo-pooed me but got them anyway. She came back several weeks later and told me her recovering friend loved them and she ended up reading them too. That's *is* perfect, Dawn. :)

Now I am getting a little anxiety though...
My one SIL who will be here next week is the one w/uterine cancer. She is not doing that great apparently since they extended her chemo, she's pretty depressed...feeling like crap. When we saw her in March she was OK--not her normal self though. She had just started wearing a wig then. :(
I'll discuss more with the bf but I'm wondering if we should insist on her and my MIL staying in our bedroom while they are here since it's on main floor (where there is a bathroom). I know his mom has been claiming that upstairs is fine but I'll be worried every time either one of them goes up/down the stairs.

I'm with you, thinking keeping them downstairs by the bathroom is a good idea. Hopefully the bf agrees...
How long are they staying?

She doesn't really sound like she should be traveling if she's not doing that well. I would think it would take a toll on her.
Dawn, I love the Janet Evanovich book idea. They are so easy to get into. No heavy reading there.
I think it's really nice that you are making up a basket like that. :)
The only thing I can think of is maybe a pair of those really soft socks (I think they have lotion in them) that can be worn as slippers even. Bed, Bath and Beyond as well as Bath and Body Works have them.

Well ladies, I survived:D
Yesterday was pretty rough...I was in quite a bit of pain. Today, I have zero cramping!
He didn't touch the fibroid because it's too far up in the uterus for him to get to intravaginally, and it would be major surgery to handle it. So, he did the ablation (not cryoablation like I thought--that's only done in the doctor's office). The ablation is much more effective because it uses heat. So basically the lining of my uterus was burned
We'll see how effective it was next month! Woooot!!!

So, I went to Kohls last night after work to get the nightgown for my friend. Got a really cute navy/white hibiscus print button down night shirt. I think she will love it.
And so I meandered toward the shoes, of course ;) ...
I have been looking for a pair of ballet flats that have the elastic on them, b/c I can not keep regular ballet flats on my feet - they flop off in the back...
A bit more than I wanted to spend, even on sale, but they are too cute - peep toes, even :D

Yay for Trish and her magical uterus!!
Did they say anything else about the fibroid? Would they try to get it out eventually?
Dawn, those flats are cute!!! I was never one for flats but now since I'm terrified of wearing anything with a heel I've changed my tune some.

If the ablation doesn't take care of things, I suppose we'll look into going after it surgically down the road. Thing is, fibroids are estrogen responsive, and as we get older, we have less estrogen, so they tend to decrease or disappear on their own.

Glad that the surgery went well, Trish! Hopefully it works to control your cramps.
Yay Trish! That's great that you feel better already. Hope it helps and you don't need to go for surgery. :)
I have the same problem with most flats, so I rarely wear them. If I don't wear socks, they don't slip off, but I don't really like not wearing socks in closed shoes. That's why I live for summer when I can wear flip flops and sandals every day. :D

But he arrived home soon after I did with--two lilac-colored Adirondack chairs. :D m The ones we had been wanting--good weather-resistant types...he ordered a little side table to put in between them too.
Now I have to worry about getting the house ready for the in-law mischpocheh. Not even sure when people are getting here for his aunt's funeral. We think it's going to be on Friday up on Eldred, NY. We will probably go up and stay in Port Jervis on Thursday night. In her will she paid for everyone to party and stay up there for her services.

I was thinking "or start checking your hoo-ha for hair" and then I thought - we have to do that though as part of the grooming process. :D
how many hours did it take her to drive there?
 or post a pic of herself lying on a cafeteria table - was that him? :D
 Yes, that was child #2. Lying on the caf table during a Saturday detention.

I'm here. Hi! :) I got home a little bit after 4, maybe?
There was some traffic in New Haven then again by Co-Op city in the Bronx--the latter was because of minor accident though. And I'd like to say the the FDNY guys there? :ga-ga: :ga-ga: :ga-ga:

FDNY =....:drool: :ga-ga:
WTF is a mischpocheh??
Kev and I were just sitting on the front porch in our plastic Target chairs with my cheap little Target iron table in between, me drinking wine from my new :NY: glass, him drinking Bud (natch).....I was telling him about our weekend. :D
Someday I'm going to buy wooden Adirondack chairs. :)

These aren't wood--they are some kind of kryponite. Actually the bf just told me they are polypropylene. We looked at lots of regular plastic yet nice chairs but since the bf and I are both sort of fata$$es they did not seem that sturdy. :o
Our backyard actually looks sort of inviting now.
Mischpocheh=Yiddish for extended family. :)

 I'm glad he picked up the chairs for you. :) I woke JP up and he took me to dinner, so I guess I shouldn't complain.
How are you feeling?

I'm having my apartment painted tomorrow so tonight has been grueling getting things ready. I don't look forward to this at all. While working in the apartment I had the game on - that did not improve my mood any. :(

Trish, I'm glad your procedure went well.
Hope all who went to Vick's beach house had a great time. :)

Halfway down on the 2nd page---yikes!
I want to write to HGTV or someone and have them come and decorate my house. It's seriously in need.

I, too, would like such a service.
Actually. On Saturday this family will be coming to a BBQ @ our house whose son is ALL into decorating. I may ask him for help. He's very enthusiastic about that kind of thing...he did a lot @ my SIL's house. :)

That's awesome. I lean on my sister for that. She would have made a GREAT interior decorator. I'm such a spaz when it comes to that stuff. I know what I like but I just can't pull it together. Unfortunately she doesn't have the time and I don't have the money to do it.
My house is so bare which makes it feel uncozy to me. I know it will feel homey in time but I just want it done all at once.

omg I am the same Nicole. The only room I absolutely love in my house is a room that decorators did. The others are all eh at best.....

*MY* sister is great at it too--she is such a house-y nerd. I think that is why she is becoming a realtor. I wanted to have her come out here right after we moved and stay a week to paint/decorate. It never happened...I've done a few things and the house does feel homey for the most part but it's not as nice as something on HGTV.

Oh man. I'm so jealous that you got a decorator for even one room. Was it expensive?

I would love for HGTV to decorate my house but at this point I'd just settle for a homey feel. My walls are essentially bare. I finally just invested in large (expensive) area rugs which helps but it needs so much more. Unfortunately, money is a little tight right now. I know that I could get cool things inexpensively but I'm just not into finding that kind of stuff. I want someone to do it for me. But, of course, that costs money.
