I don't remember Winfield's CenterStage Interview. They'd mentioned something about this bat title chase in the late '80s, I think (haven't checked his records), but wasn't sure about the lack of congratulating part.
If Winfield had been a little nicer to the Yanks and not shopped his HoF jersey around, I'd be more interested.
I think around '98 or so, the Yanks had a Dave Winfield Day, and Mattingly came out w/some keys to a Viper or something like that. George never showed up. I never worried about Winfield too much.

The rookie Jags RB from UCLA, Maurice Jones-Drew, looks really impressive today.
I hear everyone saying this, but I don't get the logic. How can his MVP odds take a beating for a week of play AFTER the yankees have already clinched.
If you look at his numbers, not only are they worse than his '99 season, they're actually not even as good as his 2000 season. In addition, it looks more and more like he's going to miss the 100 RBI mark and if his batting average doesn't stay above the .340 mark, I don't think he has much of a shot.

I can understand the 100 RBI desire, but .340 is so arbitrary. Not to mention, the guy is hitting in the 2spot. 95 RBIs from the two hole is impressive. People get very hung up on numbers (which his are insanely good, don't let this last week fool you) but the award is called the most VALUABLE player

I saw the ball bounce about a few feet in front of first and then hop back up to him. I think an experienced 1B makes it no problem as infielders routinely short hop balls, sometimes on purpose. Like b, I am not dogging on Sheff, so I too will drop it.
